200mph Seven

Anyone know what it would take?

My initial guess is 500BPH and proper gearing, no fenders, lots of duct tape, no windshield/screens, covered pax compartment, and some Indy/F1 style front and rear wings.

Right now my car is nutty quick, but scary over 100mph, like hydroplaning. It's like the car wants to lift off with the panel behind the seats, front wings/fenders, rear wings/fenders, and brooklands wanting to blow apart.. Let off the gas at speed and the throttle-off rear lift/oversteer is worse than an old 911.

First go round has F = 1/2 rho * v2*A*Cd

Don't know A but Cd ~ 0.7.. so rather, use car specs to calculate A*Cd and assume that 260 HP = 155 mph

Using this.. I find that to get to 200 mph you need about 430 hp.

Didn't Loren get clocked at about 176 mph in a winged Ultralite with supercharged S2000 engine during one of the one lap events? I seem to recall seeing a video of him doing that on a wet track.

I know Meyers hit high 170's, like 178 at VIR. A kite is a great way to describe the feeling over 140.

I am considering the ugly Donker D8 270 style wings in front and rear, but am hesitant given the open cockpit and roll cage.

Anyone have any photos of a decent lower cost (not the $1400 front and $2300 rear GT style carbon) option on a seven?

Even with Wings and F1 spoiler @200 mph will still fly kite.

The under cover will help the kite fly even more

Kevin and I did the Texas Mile (standing mile run) a few years ago now. He did 167.4 was his best. This was with his supercharged S2000 make about 380 rwhp at the time. It had no fenders and we even tried a aero nose on it removed the headlights taped the grill mostly up, full belly pan and rear diffuser. It was much faster with no wings of course but more scary to drive at that speed. We needed a little lower gear or actually a closer ratio gear box. I think 200 is possible but not in a mile unless you have 750-800 hp. The first 140 comes pretty quick about 1/4 mile. The last 3/4 is a bitch without perfect gearing. I think 175 might have been attainable for that horsepower level. I wouldnt want to be driving. There is a thread on here just type in Texas Mile for our experience. It was fun and we talked of attempting again with his new power plant its up on power from that one.

There is always the suicide option - rear wing mounted to marine plywood and front clamshells?

Ask MichaelD on here what he thought of it?

What can I say. It was done as a joke for Hyperfest at Summit Point the week before. It actually worked very well in the turns but was slower on the longer straights. The setup got a few laughs along the way and apparently still does. http://usa7s.com/vb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Dean, I think made by these people http://www.rcb7.de/

The front spoiler from Formula 3 and the rear wings from Porsche

I looked on that site. They have some really neat designs, makes for an angry looking 7. I really like the curved windscreen look and the side window treatment really changes the appearance of the 7. Something to think about for the future.

Donkervoort, Irmscher, HKT, and I hadn't yet heard of RCB... All very nice. Thank you BusaNostra.

Not to say that there aren't many other nice 7s, but the those four seem quite well refined in appearance at least.

Dean, RCB look a bit traditional 7 than the Donkervoort. I never like or interested looking a 7 that lost it's traditional 7 look. A little like RCB is ok but Donkervoort seems surpassed the tradition....but that's only my opinion.

Xcarguy. I didn't realize any of the alu wings were smooth on bottom and a real airfoil shape. Do you think there's enough surface area though or enough open/clean air to make the wing work--underside of the wing most important so acts more wing and less spoiler. I cannot wait to hear your feedback on the wing. I bet it could easily be modified to work on front.

Suicide plywood roof--Yikes..
