I think that is Andy. Used to be active on this forum. Also had a blue Westfield Seight (which periodically surfaces for sale) and at one point a crossflow Caterham. I remember him buying the pre-lit Westfield. Came from Maine.

I love your Autozam AZ-1 above. Drove one once when I lived in Japan. Mad little things but thats what makes them so entertaining.

This is probably not the right time to buy or sell as sellers are yet to readjust to the new reality and buyers are probably still assessing their cash position after some monumental falls on the investment markets. However, a month from now will likely be different. This is a buyers market going forward - those who have cash will find some screaming deals. If sellers don't have to sell then I would store a car for a year and try again then. 2020 is a write off for selling cars and trying to avoid losses.

Mike, Unfortunately, I think you are right on the money (pun intended), about the value of our beautiful discretionary toys taking some financial hits moving forward for a period of time. As many smart people have opined, this is somewhat of a perfect storm from a health and economic standpoint and "business as usual" will become a faint memory for a period of time. Our decade plus boom where sevenesque cars on sites like Bring-A-Trailer for the past year seemed to be commanding prices that were "frothy" will likely come back to earth. Sadly, some of our really great vendors such as Beachman Racing may have gotten caught in a squeeze with the rollout of their parts inventorying that was absolutely not of their making. I hope that their strategy can persist with some of us who can continue to afford to benefit and support their forward thinking, concerning marketing and services for Caterhams in the USA.

The dollar still is strong against the pound, so that's good from a Caterham perspective. Maybe now is the time for Cat owners to stock up on parts that will be needed over the next year or 2?

It will be interesting to see what the Senate and the House end up passing to ameliorate the effect of the current calamity. There is supposed to be lots of help for small businesses.

Any ideas? I have a pending list going to be ordered, but experienced members can provide a good list of consumables or other good things to have on hand.

Wanted to Buy- Long time Lotus owner, now without.

Presently with an MG TD race car, used on street, I got tired of searching for Series 1 7s with "blurred" histories, TDs have no such replication histories, and the ones with VW engines are clearly wrong from a distance.

I find the engineering art of Chapman as a young man, engaging. If you can adjust your thinking to the evident depressing situation and seek a good home for your treasure, please communicate.

Would also consider an SV, and DSK

Vlad: What to stock up on? That is a good question for Croc. Croc, thoughts? I know you are pro-active with maintenance.

I think have replaced everything on my 2 Caterhams but the frame and radiator, some parts multiple times.

Here is a partial list of stuff that was hard to get quickly: rear half shafts, both sides, A-frame (locates rear susp), CV joints, panard rod, deDion tube, rear radius arms, "upgraded" rear brakes discs and pads (if you have them, regular brakes are more plentiful), front brakes/pads, clutch/flywheel, wheel hubs, wheel bearing kits, quick release steering mechanism (mine broke as I was pulling the car onto the trailer for an expensive pre-paid trip to the track. But no steering wheel, no racing). I even broke a steering wheel so I carry a spare. Sump gaskets(s), if you are wet sump, starter, starter button, alternator, accelerator cable WITH all needed attachments, brackets of all sorts, ditto rivets and fasteners.

Of the above very partial list, the hardest to find items (6 month+ wait), were the half shafts, and upgraded rear brake system. Many of the other items were 3+ month wait. Typically, parts were replaced in the winter so no lost track time, but not always....

I am not sure the pressure is there now to hold our own stocks of parts. Its expensive for a start. The pound is not going to recover any time soon relative to the dollar. Plus we now have some good Caterham dealers in the USA - Beachman Racing/Rocky Mountain who carry a good range of spares.

The difficult stuff to get for a Caterham is:

- half shafts

- A frame (treat that as a 2 year consumable if you track it)

- any braking component from AP Racing (upgraded Discs/calipers, etc). I have a 2010 Caterham and it has 50% pad life left - never need pads if you drive properly

The stuff I regularly go through are:

- hoses - fuel and coolant and brakes (with the correct spec)

- oil - I have preferences as my engine is fussy

- wheel bearings - every year

- engine mounts - every 3 years

- 6 speed gearbox plastic circlip that locates the gear lever (every year or twice a year)

- suspension bushings - although I found a poly supplier in PA for me now

- tires

- fuel pump plus the seal that matches pump to tank (having the blue hylomar on hand helps too)

- cables - throttle/clutch/brake/etc Ususally they fail due to the little end bits fraying from friction.

- rivets sometimes

I think you have to anticipate whats coming up. For example when pads get to 30% then I will buy a set.

I bought a lot for the CSR as once they paused making it, as I had real concerns that parts would dry up rendering it useless. Clearly that risk has receded.
