That's small time stuff. My Storker now has a Westie-wanna-be double bubble wind screen and enough hood venting/ducting mods to get the Donkervoort crowd screaming foul . . . . . . . . Storkervoort, where NAPA meets the Netherlands. :ack:

Your car looks freaking awesome, great job.

I think the crowning touch would be for you to bungee Suave on top of that Lotus badge. You drive a Storker so, Own it:)! (BTW, my spell check says "Storker" is not a word. What do they know?)

I don’t think Suave would take too kindly to being strapped to the hood . . . again. :jester: I tried that once, but as I sat him on top of the Lotus badge, his tail feathers caught on fire and his head spun around uncontrollably. He has since expressed an interest in something a bit less stressful, like parasailing behind the non-existing Storker on the straight at Lightning. :jester: Besides, if I cover up the badge, nobody would talk about it. :smilielol5:

Pretty sure that Birkin was originally built by someone I know here in St. Louis. His was yellow with a Zetec, and it did catch on fire - big time. Believe it was an insurance write off, and was then surprised to see it posted for sale. Somewhere buried in this forum is a link to the original ad.

Bringatrailer is offering a 1985 Rotus 7 for sale in its new weekly auction format.

http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-rotus-7/

Lots of great write up and photos including a great cutaway drawing. The documentation pics show a USA7s forum member (Robert O. Urfer) as an ex-owner and I suspect the current owner is too. Probably the nicest condition I have ever seen a Rotus. If you have not had a chance to study an unmolested Rotus before this is a good opportunity to do so.

ETA - sold for $11000

Sold on Bringatrailer for $11000 Seems good money when you consider the work remaining.

overpaying for it

My first reaction was the same as yours. But then I asked myself what should be the correct value depreciation on a 1 year old Birkin virtually unused? 35%? 50%? 60%? Assuming a $35k final sale price then thats 34%. Tracking past Birkin sales from the data on this website would show to expect roughly 25-30% as an average. So this confirms what I have been seeing - used seven prices in the US have softened over the last few years.

Still the right answer is that a car won't sell until a buyer wants to pay a price that works for them. Sellers always get the message in the end and meet the market if they want a sale.

FWIW: About three weeks ago, I spoke with Gregg Babetz, GM of Lotus Greenville (and now Maserati), who said that the '13 Birkin had been sold and was awaiting a replacement half-shaft prior to being shipped to its new owner.

While the deal must have fallen through, it appears that there continue to be a few buyers out there, and suggests that, as always, a car is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.
