In the future, Croc will change his stage name from Croc to Mad Max, as a tribute to Mel Gibson and his style of dealing with people; Incidentally, the preliminary report from the K1 Karting event is that 7 people (note the significance of the number in terms of these cars) had to be air lifted by helicopter to a major trauma center after getting in Mad Max's way. The gloves were definitely OFF.

Hence I present the following pictures;

first picture is Mike smiling, showing his sensitive side right before the blood bath at the K1 karting event;

Second picture showig how one of the poor victims was sent off into the Sahara with a gentle little shove by Mad Max;

Third picture shows the damage done to Tom's (Yellowss7) shoe by Mad Max blasting through in the attempt to carry home the 1st place and $10,000 prize winnings. Ok, I never really saw the money but it was rumored, I think by Mad Max.

We were running the Avenger track at NJMP. The karts are 9hp and fully protected with what I term “nerf” bars, just in case you...err….run into someone accidentally on purpose. Top speed is somewhere just over 50mph if you get a good run up on the full circuit. We were running the half sized Avenger circuit so not as fast.

The secret of being successful with these karts is to be born light weight. Roman is an ideal build – thin as a rake and weighs about as much as my thigh. Karl at 6’7” is a big boy and never going to have a happy time with these karts. Steve is ideal. Then there are the problems with the karts – some are newer and some are older and it is a lucky draw as to which one you get. Some have better engines and rev higher – a fact confirmed by the karting employees. I have a suspicion that Steve and JeffS had especially good karts just by looking at rpm numbers. Jeff H had a particularly bad kart in his defence and it was replaced after practice and qualifying as it had the small issue of always wanting to turn right even on the straights.

Practice results

1) Steve M (bball7754), 33.552, 1305rpm

2) Roman (EvilRomeo), 34.123, 1285rpm

3) Mike J (Croc), 34.133, 1265rpm

4) Jack vB (Jvbtte), 34.313, 1245rpm

5) Mike G (Klasik), 34.821, 1225rpm

6) Dave D (DaveD), 34.841, 1205rpm

7) Jeff S (Jeffs), 34.882, 1185rpm

8) Stacie (not on USA7s), 35.187, 1165rpm

9) Tom G (Yellowss7), 35.249, 1130rpm

10) Jeff H (JBH), 36.048, 1125rpm

11) Karl J (Blubarisax), 36.262, 1105rpm

Qualifying

1) Steve M (bball7754), 32.814, 1399rpm

2) Jeff S (Jeffs), 33.712, 1270rpm

3) Mike J (Croc), 33.919, 1322rpm

4) Dave D (DaveD), 33.924, 1248rpm

5) Roman (EvilRomeo), 34.043, 1299rpm

6) Mike G (Klasik), 34.371, 1225rpm

7) Tom G (Yellowss7), 34.926, 1122rpm

8) Stacie (not on USA7s), 35.242, 1134rpm

9) Jack vB (Jvbtte), 34.379, 1186rpm

10) Jeff H (JBH), 35.526, 1063rpm

11) Karl J (Blubarisax), 35.707, 1027rpm

Race

Alas the first effort at a race was stopped after much carnage and the failure of several transponders. Interestingly Jeff S ran a 31.553 lap which was the fastest for all of us and compares to the lap record for those karts (by an NJMP employee) of 30.5 seconds. However, as the transponders and timing equipment failed it does not count for anything. :p

The standing start led to a complete food fight in the hairpin first corner. :boxing: Thank goodness that Kitcat was not there or it would have been even more messy! I took it in all sides and I bet everyone else did too! Sadly I ended up beached in the sand after I was punted off by some helpful friend on the first lap at the esses and had to be excavated by the employees taking half the race. :bs: Stacie was punted into the wall at turn 1 and wasted 2 laps being rescued. JeffH was also beaten up badly. The winners are:

1) Steve M (bball7754), 33.954, 1523rpm

2) Jeff S (Jeffs), 34.595, 1412rpm

3) Tom G (Yellowss7), 35.105, 1173rpm

4) Dave D (DaveD), 35.091, 1278rpm

5) Roman (EvilRomeo), 35.849, 1336rpm

6) Jack vB (Jvbtte), 36.723, 1151rpm

7) Jeff H (JBH), 37.474, 1021rpm

8) Stacie (not on USA7s), Accident

9) Mike J (Croc), Beached

10) Mike G (Klasik), DNS

Congratulations Steve! :driving:

OK found the pic. Now my Niece worked for Hillary on her last campaign and hopes to again (if she runs), so may be we can get the car signed which should have a significant effect on its value!

Shane was also a worthy winner of the "John Deere Award" for his remarkable near miss at turn 1. I had Larry his father as my passenger in the CSR and Shane decided to try to run me down before the end of the session. So while I was doing 130mph on the straight he was doing 150mph+ or so. While I decided to brake and actually go around turn 1 on the tarmac, Shane came in at warp speed and muffed the corner, slid wide onto the dirt and proceeded to execute a huge mushroom cloud of dirt and death wobbles before eventually recovering. All of which was happily seen by both Larry and myself in the rear vision mirrors, much to our mirth.

I truly think when Mike and my dad were on track together, they gained an audience with the ‘All Mighty’ that equaled that of Moses himself; I'm talking burning-bush event here. When I came off the crest of turn one, Mike had miraculously moved the entire stretch of track between turns one and two to the right of my line some five feet. There was nothing there but dirt when I arrived, and I could have sworn I saw Mike holding up a staff as he disappeared very quickly around turn two. :smilielol5: . . . . .

We were running the Avenger track at NJMP. The karts are . . . . .

Sure wish we could have stuck around and done some some karting with you guys. Sounds liike you had lots of fun beating up on each other. Congrats, Steve, on your win.

Suave (Swa-vay) wanted everyone to know that we all made it home okay. Turns out Suave is a bit of a camera hog/photo bummer (bomber). He wanted a pose on the rear wing of the Storker and then decided to bomb the shot when I tried to get a photo of the total mileage we had gone.

Steve (S1Steve), if it helps, I got home and found that I had a broken exhaust mount. Had I of known, this would have required an off-track trip to the Home Depot automotive department for a fix.

So many possible responses, but I can't think of one that won't put me in the awkward position of having to ban myself. :)

Hillary's new seven :jester:

Sorry Croc, There is NO WAY she could ever get her Fat Butt in an S3. Maybe she'd do better in your Sumo Version. :toetap05::toetap05:

Looks like I'll have to bring out the Saddle next year to put you in your place. :jester: Tom

Looks like I missed out on an excellent time...was too tuckered out from driving back to NJ from Columbus (Fencing Summer Nationals with my younger girl, now nearly 14) in one shot on Friday. Thanks for sharing the pix!

Tom...are you selling the yellow car/did you get a new one?

Yep, I tried to convince Karl not to sell, Repeatedly. Knowing Karl, he did everything first class, from the Cosworth duratec to the Sadev Sequential, to the Nitron Shocks and much much more. I never planned to sell mine ever. I just couldn't let it fall into the wrong hands. :willy_nilly:

My wife and daughters are trying to convince me to keep both. Karl's is a car that is meant for the track. Not impossible to put on the street, but the sequential gearbox likes lots of revs. My Yellow car is easy to drive on the street and good on the track too. I'm going to pick up the new Orange one tomorrow, it's in Croc's garage at the track. So it looks like I currently have two really nice Caterhams for now.

And yes you did miss a great event. Maybe next year. We still need to see Bessie.:toetap05:

Did Karl get a new car?

Regarding Bessie, I've gotten her out on the road just a few times so far this year, but every time reminds me of what I love about Se7ening....

Alright, alright, alright...

Time to get ready for next year....after reflecting on the weekend's car performance, watching the a few (eye opening) GoPro videos , here's my to do list to try to keep up with the gang and the big boys!

1. Secure a set of 13 inches equipped with ZZRs or other good slicks (any recommendations?)

2. Swap the windscreen for the carbon aero deflector kit - should help get 5 mph at the end of the straight

3. if possible, extract another 10 hp or more from the 210 hp Duractec somehow.. not sure how yet. Will need your advice guys.. any thoughts?

4. learn how to push the limits and drive better!

a) turn 1: brake later / harder, keep same line but ~5 mph faster

b) turn 2,3,4: good lines, but can load the car more

c) turn 5: not sure what to do yet.. need to reflect

d) turn 7: keep it floored until passed the bridge, brake later, enter 7 faster

e) turn 8: the bowl, can easily enter the curve with 500 rpms higher and accelerate towards apex sooner

5. Build some muscle .. I was sore for a day!

Karl.. you were right. Let the Caterham performance upgrade journey begin! :willy_nilly:
