  1. Past hour
  2. At the risk of answering my own question, (but to put this post to bed?) I have checked a further couple of books by U.K. Ford Crossflow tuners, and the consensus seems to be that valve stem seals should be placed on the inlet valve at the very least, (to prevent carbon build-up in the head and inlet manifold), but on both valves is preferable. In my small collection of Ford Crossflow reference books, these stem seals are hardly mentioned, if at all. With double valve springs fitted, the original Ford factory 'umbrella' stem seals will not fit, but with single springs - which they were designed for - they will work as they were meant to. David Wallage in his book on tuning the Crossflow noted that some tuners install rubber 'O' rings on the stems for double springs, but he was not fond of this practice, although they will probably work o.k. I also found the 'Felpro' site and it shows the 2 main types of valve stem seal. I plan to stick with the Ford 'umbrella' stem seals (unless someone has other ideas), as they will help to limit too much oil going down the guide, but still allow some oil to splash on the stems for necessary lubrication. Cheers, W.
  3. That's quite a brilliant and practical idea.
  4. I leave my ignition ON and watch the gauge as I fill. When I hit full, I stop. I probably don't quite get it as full as I can, but no mishaps yet.
  5. Today
  6. A black stripe + nose band like the old Lotus would look very slick. Wasp-like.
  7. Thanks for reaching out. KnifeySpoony is correct. An SLR cage is normally accompanied by a removable half screen (Aeroscreen) or a custom windshield. I left the windscreen wipers motors on for the possibility of a custom glass screen. The tonneau is bolted on but can be removed with appropriate tools. I have some race seat runners that can be bolted back into the floor pan. I also have an unused set of Caterham harnesses that would work with a new passenger seat.
  8. You can run a windshield with the SLR cage, but not with doors. You'd have to switch to a different cage/rollbar type if you want full weather gear.

  10. yet more teasers
  11. The side shot looks more like a NASCAR Modified than anything related to a Lotus Seven!
  12. Hi Darren, great well presented car and specification. Curious how difficult it would be to remove passenger tonneau, add passenger seat, belts and windshield?
  13. Those tires seem to have an aspect ratio from another era.
  14. It was also the lead car on this weeks WEIRD VEHICLES WEDNESDAY! on the you tubes... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi0sarhehLA
  15. Hmmm... I wonder if it sold? I shoulda grabbed more than these two shots. This Daily Tourismo write up on the car still seems to be an active link. https://dailyturismo.com/super-duper-7-1974-lotus-super-8-custom/
  16. Small update. Played with it for a bit. I think you're on the money. My TPS never sees 0 degrees so the car never stops dumping fuel even with throttle closed on decel. Double checked to see if it's mechanical pull to 10 percent or so it bad calibration. Even with throttle disconnected im still at 10 degrees so time to mess with ITB throttle butterfly stops and resetting things to 0 and bumping up fuel tables so it stops dying when I indicate that it's now 0. To be continued
  17. Link is down for me. Wish I got to see more of that creation
  18. OK. The remanufactured starters I have work perfectly in the Birkinized Caterham. On the Birkin, they fit, they spin, but apparently do not engage the flywheel.
  19. Does this "Lotus 8" belong on the weekly for sale list? It's like they started with a 7 and then subtracted Collin's "lightness"... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/972968951771613
  20. Thank you! No plans to add any stripes yet, though my son is lobbying me to add black stripes to the bonnet…
  21. Scored a clam. Thanks, Craig Chima!
  22. FYI The 1966 Lotus 7 S3 that was on Facebook Marketplace at: https://www.facebook.com/share/178YRz7o5t/ (Link listed above is dead) The seller has placed another new ad at: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/27170235592582954 This Seven was for sale on Facebook Marketplace for some time. An interested buyer pointed out some problems and owner/seller took it off Facebook Marketplace while he had a mechanic check things out. The owner/seller had been claiming it was an original 1966 Lotus 7 that was completely restored and updated using Caterham parts in 1992 by Sevens and Elans. He had been asking $49,900. I messaged him several times with questions and comments but he has never responded to me. He posted it on the Lotus Club of Canada’s Facebook page and yesterday I noticed he’d changed his ad text both there and on Marketplace. He now admits it’s a Caterham and that the Lotus registration was a “US import practice”. However, he is still selling it as a 1966 Lotus because that is the way it’s registered in Quebec. He has also lowered his asking price to $42,000 Canadian.

  24. I really like how your car looks in solid yellow/gold with no stripes. I didn't notice if you're planning on adding any, but it's a cool look as-is
  25. I catch some flack for being a polishing queen. But I keep some waterless wash and wax in the boot. Hit any fuel spill over with a generous dose and wipe it down with micro fiber. I also have mini spray bottles so not to take up much space. https://a.co/d/02yciLTE https://a.co/d/00TTX4JD
  26. I think if I combined both of these products with a keen eye on the bottom of the funnel, I might be able to manually fill the entire tank without overflowing. We'll see?
  27. I have never been able to use the auto-shutoff at the pump, but I do carry one of these which lets me fill up gas way faster than I could without it. This will probably be totally unnecessary for those of you in states that don't have evaporative fuel nozzles, to people who've modified the internal flap on their filler necks, and to those of you who have figured out the secret to getting fuel in. But for me? Lifesaver! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MEPIU4M Lisle 17232, made for filling annoyingly-placed reservoirs but snaps right into place on a Caterham fuel filler... That being said, I just found this when looking for a reference image for our non-California friends... https://www.aerostich.com/products/gascard As for overflow, I've been there too. My way to avoid it has been to only fill up 5 or 6 gallons when I've traveled more than 100 or so miles. I'm definitely leaving some range on the table with this policy but I haven't overflowed since the one time I got cocky and went for 7...
  28. I find that at Shell it auto stops (way too early but it stops). At Costco it doesn't do that and just keeps going so it overflows a lot if you're not paying attention even for a few seconds
