Looks like a fun car, particularly at that weight and with those tires. Side note: it's interesting Caterham is choosing to show the car on their website in what appears to be a paint-to-sample color rather than any of the options listed on the site. Is that the case, or is this an unintentional leak of paint options changing for 2022 cars? Thanks, John

There are at least two other people here with the good sense to own both a se7en and an Elan. Great looking car and color. Once you get a chance to really know it, I'd be curious to hear your impressions of how it compares to the Elan, and Europa. -John

As I wrote above, I checked several of your images and some were uploaded from your device and some were linked from other sources (e.g. EVO Magazine). The images that are broken all point to a CDN, which seems to indicate those images were remotely hosted. If you have any instances where you have uploaded an image and it is no longer appearing, let me know via PM and I can open a ticket. Regarding remote images (what you refer to as hotlinking) those are not hosted by our servers and that is not unique to our software. Think back to when PhotoBucket changed their terms several years ago and broke images across various forums. If the source image moves or is blocked, there is nothing for the forum to display. I did a quick test and it doesn't appear that the original URL is viewable when in edit mode other than showing the CDN link. -John

@Vovchandrit looks like some of your photos were image uploads to the forum and others were URLs with the image hosted elsewhere. The items that aren't appearing all seem to be the latter (or at least the several I looked at) and show as URL expired with that URL pointing to a content delivery network affiliated with Facebook. If I were to hazard a guess, it might be related to copyright protection given those images were most likely taken by professional photographers. -John

Croc might be able to supply a copy of the police report. Pretty sure they took photos. -John -

Apparently he was not amused that I put a license plate frame on CatKong that read "I'd rather be driving a Westfield." He indicated the dogs could still fly on the corporate jet, but I had to go commercial. -John -

I'm getting excited for this event even though I'm following it from the other side of the country. Make sure to take plenty of photos for the club's Instagram account! -John -
Muffler Recommendations - Westfield SEiW with 2.1 Pinto
JohnCh replied to ProfGriff's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Hopefully others will chime in with US or Canadian suppliers, but if you are looking at UK options, silencers from Westfield (the carbon fiber unit), Wunoff, and Simpson all get great reviews on WSCC. The Raceco is also excellent, but it's a bit spendy (Titanium ain't cheap). -John -
Glad to hear you're pleased. For the half hood, I would go with Soft Bits for Sevens, but confirm measurements of your specific car with them. There can be some minor variations in the top of windscreen to roll bar distance on cars from this era. BTW it looks like you have the RAC roll bar vs. the stock item. They will need to know that to ensure you get the right top. -John

Hi Jim, I have the email address of the person at Oxted who normally handles these types of requests if you aren't having much luck with their online form or their info@ email box. Happy to shoot that to you via PM if you think it will help. -John

We weren't sure if you were running a distributor or wasted spark. If the former, then the question was ignition advance, if the latter, a failing coil pack could be part of the problem. I've had two of the Ford units fail over the years.

It would be good to know if something happened at the 20 second mark of the video. Did the sound suddenly change or is that just a recording artifact? When you write that #4 is colder than the rest, how much colder? Dead cylinder colder or misfiring cylinder colder? Given the history here, you might be looking at a few minor things being off rather than just one. i.e. I don't think Occam's Razor applies to your engine. The Persian house cats are now fed and they are rooting for you. -John

Registering a Brunton Stalker XL 7-ish Replica in Washington State
JohnCh replied to PeterMiles's topic in Pacific
Peter, I believe @OrangeMax and @DemoDan both brought used se7ens into WA from out of state earlier this year. Hopefully one of them can chime in with their experience. -John -
Lot of great stuff here. For my upcoming Caterham build, I too am using the wireless buttons from Blinkstop, and an MXS 1.2 fed via CAN from my ECU. One of the differences I've noticed between my Westfield and the Caterhams I've driven is that the steeper dashboard angle on the Caterham seems to generate a lot more glare from the gauges when the sun is behind the car. I plan to mount the MSX at an angle so the face is aiming at me rather than the sky. How has the Motogadget worked out? I'm also toying with including that in my build. -John

Based on your first post, this should be a very interesting thread to follow! The mention of Millington is intriguing. -John

A simple test is to swap coils and see if the dead cylinder stays put or follows the coil. You can do the same with the injectors if you then want to rule out that problem. -John
-
Given this wasn't a mechanical overrev, I'm surprised a valvetrain issue would surface unless something was already weakened and simply looking for an excuse to go bang. Is it a high mileage engine? You have stock cams and valve springs, correct? Although dead cylinder doesn't look good, check the cheap, simple things first. Make sure you are getting spark as John suggests, and also check that the injector is delivering fuel. Given you were cleaning things, is it possible you jostled the coil or injector connector for that cylinder? Remove those and make sure the pins all look seated correctly. -John

327 hp does sound...sufficient? I think that's the right word. How is the traction? -John

Welcome Phil, that car looked very well bought. The photos you attached were a file type I've never seen before and are unsupported. I've sent you a PM to help. -John

As Graham notes, you can't simply replace the sensor, but you can buy a WBO2 system with controller and wire that to the MBE. The instruction manual should identify any changes you will need to make to accommodate, but it could require a slight wiring change (e.g. the Emerald uses different pins in the harness plug for WB vs. NB and also requires a setting change in the software.) -John

So, tell us a little about yourselves
JohnCh replied to slngsht's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Welcome Dave! I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but as per the post below made by a dealer almost 3 months ago, Caterham is no longer accepting US orders for the Sigma-powered models (310 and 270). I've read similar on BlatChat. The good news is the Duratec-powered models are still available. Although not as light as the Sigma, it's still a great engine. -John -
@NeoBear SB100 has come up a lot over the years, but often times is not apparent by the thread title. The forum search function is actually quite good (one of the reasons we moved to this software), so I encourage you to search on SB100 and dig into the various threads you uncover. You'll see the one mentioned by @kayentaskier is the #2 result after your new thread which uses SB100 in the title. -John
