On the topic of suspension - best approach to bottoming?
MHKflyer52 replied to twobone's topic in General Tech
Dose it occur in both right and left turns. Check bushings on suspension as they could be worn out which would let the components move and possibility come into contact with other parts. If you have adjustable spring seats you could adjust them to compress the spring a little and see if it still happens as that will preload the springs if I am not mistaken and make it slightly stiffer. -
What color nose for a carbon and alloy 7?
MHKflyer52 replied to timax's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Simply paint the carbon parts to match the rest of the car is one approach as original Lotus 7 did not have carbon parts and only a handful of late model Caterhams have carbon parts but that is just my thoughts. :driving: -
How much do you drive your Seven?
MHKflyer52 replied to McDougal's topic in General Sevens Discussion
jimrankin, That is one nice simple setup for adjustable pedals you have come up with. I like it. -
Thanks Nick for the info on the storage boxes and how you mounted them. Good idea and a simple solution.

Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine or Portland, Texas or Portland, New York....just teasing....someone will post up soon that is close by you in Portland, Oregon. I use to live in Newberg, OR. and their were a couple of 7's in the area so you should be able to get a ride and look. If your in Ventura, CA. I am avaiable as that is were I am and my car is now.

Check your compression as that also effects how much suction you have through the carbs. Should all be within a couple of pounds I would suspect but if not then you need to adjust the carbs with a synchronizer to get the correct air flow through the ventures. Also check the base of the carb to intake manifold and manifold to head for leaks as that can also cause a lean or rich condition if there is a leak there. Just a though and hope it helps.

slomove, An acquaintance of mine has a polished aluminum Cobra and he has a clear film on it in the high abrasion areas and you have to look very closely to see it. He seems to like it a lot and says that it has reduced the amount of up keep greatly. I will see if I have some photos of his Cobra and post them up as it is just amazing and very bright in the sun.

The overhead shot shows that you had a good turnout and I suspect your 7 is in the middle with the croud around it. Very Cool and for a good cause.

WOW...very very nice work.

Do you have a career that you really enjoy? I'm bored of the rat race
MHKflyer52 replied to twobone's topic in Off Topic
twobone, I think you will find that most of the people that participate in this forum are all into family and motorsports and are usually the folks that seem to be the ones always trying new and different things yet are very stable in what they do in the way of a living or career. I myself find that I now work for the enjoyment that my family receives from the income that I receive and also so that I can have the play toys that I have and enjoy and the fact that I enjoy what I do and how I do it. I tell people that I am very fortunate to be able to draw drawings for a living and figure out how to make things that people think up but do not have the ability to translate that information or knowledge into a document or object that someone can take and make something that works and get paid to do just that (the last four years). Now don't get me wrong as I have retired four different times in the last 20 years. Each time thinking that I could just enjoy life as it is and do what I want for the rest of my life but found that I needed something more to do or to challenge myself or I become very unrest full, the first time in 1990 at 40 yrs old lasted all of four months until I found something to do (designing marine cranes), the second time in 1998 to build a business not knowing what real work was until then, the third time in 2002 after having started a second business and then sold it and the last time in 2005 after starting a third business and selling it so that I could move my wife and I closer to her family and because I was ready for a change and the money for the business was very good. Each time I found that I had to be doing something more than just playing golf and taking the RV on trips and messing around in the garage with some of my toys as my wife say and have always found that I am happier when working than not plus my wife is happier when I am working and not at home all the time and that is something that really makes a big difference in the way we live. As a side note a mistress is out of the question as something to occupy my time as I would not be able to afford the divorce or live through what my wife would do to me if she found out as she would not be very kind and besides I just could not handle two women at this stage of my life. I also agree with turboeric and what he posted as wishes do sometimes come true. Just enjoy life and your family and it will always work out I find. -
That is interesting and amusing. Would like to have that kind of money to be able to play like that.

A couple of questions - thinking about a Caterham
MHKflyer52 replied to Matt's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Hello BrunnyS1 and All members of the forum, I did not mean to seem like I was being rude and ignorant or insensitive but I was referring to the girls in the photo of Hanks 7 at the Hooters parking lot as his pets in a light hearted way and maybe that is not PC but that is me. (see link) http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.p...t=hank+hooters I was not referring to animals or pets like dogs or cats or goats or fish and yes I have been to both countries, Iran and Afghanistan and I do understand what you are saying and agree that there are a lot of good people in both of the countries but you will not find any Hooters Restaurants in either Iran or Afghanistan especially with women dressed like the girls are dressed in Hanks Photo of his 7. I am sorry if I have offended anyone on this forum or anyone who reads this post and thinks I am referring to pets, dogs, cats, goats, fish in a bowl, birds in cages or any other animal that people care about as a friend or companion not being found in a parking lot. So yes God bless America as you would never find those pets / girls in a parking lot in Iran or Afghanistan dressed like that to my knowledge in todays world. -
A couple of questions - thinking about a Caterham
MHKflyer52 replied to Matt's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Yep the only pets I can see getting into a 7 would be like Hanks Hooters Pets / Friends as seen in this link......LOL.... http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=3893&highlight=hank+hooters Just can not see how he fits them all in his 7. :jester: God bless America as you would never find those pets in a parking lot in Iran or Afghanistan. :flag: -
Nice little portable garage / trailer you have their Proj217 for your 7. Does your car bottom out when you enter as the ramp looks to be fairly steep but that might just be the camera angle in the photo. Just wondering. Post some photos of your 7 for us as we all enjoy seeing what is out their. Is your 7 a scratch built or a CMC chassis with a complete rollcage?

7evin, I will neither deny nor confirm that I suggested the dimples but I do think it is something to look into as long as you have the time and your other half’s backing (AKA the true sponsor)........:driving:

Here is a photo of how I mounted the seats in my 7 and it is like the way you described I think. http://picasaweb.google.com/MHKflyer52/ALotus7Replica#5217898795526478770 http://picasaweb.google.com/MHKflyer52/ALotus7Replica#5217899304071487618 :driving: :auto:

Now that is funny.
-
Have to agree with Hank.....and yes please post more on the side cargo box setup.

rnr, You are correct in the fact that dimples do not work on leading edges of wings because the flow of air over the wing surface must be smooth so the air flow will meet at the trailing edge at the same time to create lift by having the air on the top of the wing accelerate causing a lower pressure on top which is what makes the wing lift. In theory when very small dimples are applied to a surface such as a round nose or edge that has air flowing over it and is not a lifting devise the dimples will cause the boundary layer to separate from the surface and cause a small area that the air is not attached to the surface which reduces the friction and thus lets the object move faster due to less friction. A good wax job and clean surfaces will most likely be just as effective in reducing the amount of friction that the air flow will cause but if you’re trying to get the most out of something that is cutting through the air as every little bit helps. Gap seals also help in this reducing drag and turbulences which create parasitic drag and causes objects to go slower through the air. Porsche actually put little brush like things on all the openings of the 550 Spider just to reduce the drag and to keep dirt from getting into different areas and a lot of airplanes still do this in areas were control surfaces have linkage that moves out into the air flow. :driving: :auto:
