  1. The BMC engines fit very nicely in a seven. I think the 7 America came with a 948cc BMC (Austin Healy Sprite Engine) and some of the later 7's that were shipped to the states had the 1275cc and the 1500cc BMC engines. I have an 1800cc BMC in my replica 7 and it originally came out of an MGB and it works great.
  2. They sure are very nice Cobra cars as this one that the owner runs at the Auto-X's at the airport. Here is a photo of his.
  3. I have the same sort of rear fenders on my 7 as well and have not had an issue with them being torn off by cones and I have bin known to hit a bunch of them from time to time. Here is a photo that shows the driveside rear fender on my car.
  4. That is funny.
  5. Never said that it was not my fault for running into her but my insurances company is not charging my policy / record as an accident charged to me. My agent says this is due to fact that I was not ticketed for the accident and the fact that the statements by the witnesses said that she caused the accident in the intersection. The way I figure it I lucked out and am glad that it was only her bumper that got scratched by my license plate coming into contact with her car and that I was not ticketed for failure to control my vehicle. In hind sight if I had had three more inches of space I would have never touched her car with my front license plate but that is why it is called an accident isn’t it and why we have insurance.
  6. slngsht, Looks to me like the computer that controls the camera just wanted to get a better look at FRANKN7 and that you now have "poor professional photos" of your car for a mere $40 dollars which is cheap but a pain in the keaster. Out here in Ventura, CA. they have the traffic intersection cameras in almost all the major intersections in town and they seem to be making a lot of money for the city and a private company who operates and maintains them for the city. The reason I say this is I have watched the flash for the camera go off numerous times while sitting at some of those intersections waiting for the light to change. Yes I know this first hand as I tapped the back of a car in June of this year that slammed on the breaks and actually skidded to a stop in front of me and my F-350 at one of those intersections trying to avoid a ticket from the camera. My insurance agent has told me that the number of accidents in intersections has gone up a lot due to the cameras and the fear of getting a ticket by the photo cameras (people slamming on the breaks when the light changes to yellow just as they approach the intersection) but that the severity of those accidents has dropped because of them in those intersections due to people running the lights. I later found out thru my agent that the gal driving the car that I tapped (and I latterly tapped her car as I did not even bend my license plate on the front bumper) has had three rear end collisions in the past two years due to her trying to avoid getting another traffic ticket from the intersection cameras in the area. My insurance agent said that I was not being charged with an chargeable accident by my insurance company due to her driving record and the fact that I did not contest that I tapped the car at the intersection and that I called the police to have them make a report of the accident at the time it occurred to protect myself from any false claims of injury. This all came about because of the claim that she filled against my insurance to get her car repaired and that their was a police report number and their were witnesses at the intersection when the accident occurred that told the police that she caused the accident and that she (the driver of the car that I tapped) had stated to the police officer who showed up at the intersection, “I was trying to stop to not get another ticket from the red light cameras in this town when this guy in the pickup hit me”. Funny thing is the officer did not ticket me but wrote her a ticket for not being able to provide proof of insurance at the time of the accident even though her license and registration was good and then gave me the report number that I gave to my insurance agent when I told him that I had run into the back of a car at an intersection.
  7. All I can say is that is one nice looking 7 and the photographs of it make it look as if it should be sitting in a display cabinet. Very nice as I also built my car from scratch and know what effort it takes and goes into it. Mine looks nothing like a model but it is fun.
  8. My first thoughts when I looked at the e-bay post was that it is a very well done model of a 7. If it is as nice as it looks in the photos and is a real car then it might be a good deal. I wounder who made the car as it says it is a recreation of a 1964 Lotus 7 and from the looks of the engine bay the tube bracing is not something I have seen before an looks very well done. Wish my car looked that good but then I would not enjoy it as much because I would not want to get it dirty.
  9. At the end of one of those large plates of steel they place over trenches in the road and then place asphalt on the edges to hold it into place, the asphalt had pushed up due to the plate having moved and that caused a large bulge in the area that the wheel tracks had not recompressed and was six inches tall. I will PM you with more photos so as to not hi-jack this thread.
  10. Have to agree with slomove Here is a photo of just one of those incidents that occured with my car earlier this year while out on a drive with a group of folks. Sure messed up my day.
  11. I wounder how you log that landing....grass field landing with an angle called a ballistic parachute. One LUCKY pilot.
  12. That has to be a fake as the hay bailer I had (a New Holland) would have crushed him like a grape as it worked more like a compactor and then wrapped cord around the bail to keep it from falling apart. From time to time a snake or field mouse will get picked up and bailed along with the hay and they get broken up perty bad from the compacting of the hay. At first I figured I was watching someone killing themselve. Just crazy is all I can say if it is real.
  13. How about some bleach for cleaning porcelain sink and counter top surfaces or even some Easy-Off.
  14. Now that is funny.
  15. BURRR :jester:
  16. :cooldude: Sun Visor for a 7.
  17. trough doctor, You might want to add a switch to the fan so that you can over ride the thermoswitch if you see that it is getting to hot but the fan has not turn on yet. Only a suggestion but one that I have done with my 7 and I find that I can actually help the cooling system stay cooler by turning the fan on before it gets to hot especially when in trafficand its a hot day outside.
  18. Yesterday at my office in Simi Valley it was 117 degrees by our private weather station that is in the lab. Really was not that bad inside of the office with the AC but when I went out to my car to drive home it was stiffling and my cars AC was not up to the task mainly because it is black Miata and had been sitting in the direct sun light all day and the AC unit most likely needs to be serviced as it is a 1996 an the AC hardly is ever used as the top works so easy. Today is much better outside here in Simi Valley its only 89 degrees at the present by our weather equipment.
  19. Would love to see the "Excursion tow vehicle" doing it's thing and I would love to be a fly on the wall of the folks that Kevin passed on that road course......can imagine what they were thinking when he passed them and was gaining on the first car....what the F is going on is my car slow or what….. Thanks for the report and be safe and keep the greasy side down in that Ford.
  20. Quote from eVox "They seem to have too much grip for street driving...it is hard to get the car to slide or step out at all." Stepping the rear end out is not the fastest way or safest way around a curve most of the time and can be very dangerous as it puts the car on the very outer limits of control and is not at all safe on public streets. Yes it is fun and I have experienced it a number of times myself but being able to control the vehicle without sliding or spinning the wheels will get you around a curve faster (99.99% of the time) especially on public streets and will not get you a ticket if observed by your local police and it does not wear out those tires as quickly as when they are sliding or spinning. I have always told people that the quickest way around a curve is not to slide the car but to control it so it is just at the point that the tires will still keep grip with the surface it is on be it a race track or public street or snow covered road or frozen lake or rain soaked street which usually means driving slower and having better control by being smoother and keeping the vehicle in balance with the conditions and surface it is on. Now having said the above if you want to experience some fun in an large empty parking lot (NO PARKED CARS to run into or light poles) and do not mind wearing out a set of tires quickly then try this, inflate your rear tires to the max recommended tire pressure and then go measure out a 100ft diameter circle (50ft of rope and some chalk to mark circle) and start to drive around the circle while increasing your speed and add power after you have started around the circle and the front wheels have good grip and are not pushing or sliding. You do not have to be going very fast to see just how fast the rear end will step out so be careful and remember when you spin feet in (off the gas and on the clutch and brake). Do this in both directions and you will find that you will learn a lot about your car and your abilities to control your car. Also time yourself (have a friend do this) when the rear end is stepped out and then when it is not and I think you will find that your faster around the circle when under better control and not sliding. Oh watch out when you let up on the gas quickly as your car will have a tendency to regain traction and will go in the direction you have the front wheels pointed. When you get tired of spinning and sliding your tires with the max air pressure you might want to try reducing the amount of air say in two pound increments in the rear tires and doing the same corners at the same speed to find the point that the rear tires get the best grip and do not step out on you and have even ware across the tread surface or you could just put the recommended tire pressure and drive home. Note: This can bring the local police out rather quickly if you’re doing this in a public parking area that is not blocked off to the public so be prepared to explain what you are doing and that you are trying to learn how to control your car safely without endangering people or yourself, it might not get you out of a ticket so be careful.
  21. The yellow 7 number 17 I do belive is a Super Stalker and not a Caterham. Sure looks different with the sprint car style wing on top and in front of the windshield area. Still neat to see.
  22. I read an article in one of the science journals that I read about this feat in late August sometime around the 18th and the question of weather it was a true self powered flight due to it being towed into flight is what is holding up the approval of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FIA) and why they are waiting till their meeting in October. I would think the students would try to accomplish their takeoff roll by using a sloop to gain enough momentum to lift off and then sustain a level flight and land to insure that they can really sustain flight by flapping a wing mechanism and create lift by doing so but that is just my belief and opinion and we all know everyone has one. I still think they have achieved more than anyone else in this area of flight and I find it great that they are able to get the weight down to the 94lbs for the size of the craft.
  23. You could always just attach a set of these unde the rear pannel and that would give you lots of light for backing up. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Warn-Halogen-H3-400-Candlepower-Trail-Lights-ATV-RE35H-/200517610563?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eafc7ec43 Just an idea plus they are small and inexpensive.
  24. So the point is? It is just starting and the insurance companies are already looking to screw the public even more and to protect their bottom line and shareholders. The new health care policy is good but also it is not very well though out as people are now starting to see and it is a shame for everyone as it will cost us all in the long run. A number of Big Insurance Companies have publicaly stated that they will not offer insurance coverage for new born children due to the projected cost that will be incurred in the feature because the new health care law states they can not be denied insurance due to a preexisting medical condition as a child (birth to 19yrs of age) and new law became effective yesterday 09-23-10 and that is just wrong that the Insurance Companies can get away with action like this but that is just my belief and how I feel.
  25. No Radio or IPod in my 7 just the rumble of the engine and the sounds of nature as I go down the road.
