Scannon that looks like the same body kit the Stacey David on GEARZ did. It looks nice. When are you gonna stuff an LS3 and six speed in that boy. No one will be calling it a gay car anymore. I have been very tempted to do that conversion myself. There is very little weight gain about 200 lbs total and the weight bias stays the same as the stock car so handeling is still like a stock Miata. Flyin Miata sells the stuff to do the conversion and they have alot of build info and videos. They are a real sleeper. Everything fits under the stock hood.

Great hope we get to visit for a while.

Captzoom I am Loren you and I took the soilders for rides last year. We are doing a hill country tour on the 24 and 25th of OCT. If you want info let me know and we will get it ot you.

I had looked at the ROTA before but they didnt have that wheel. They never had a 17x9 with a 5x100 bolt pattern. That is one of the main reasons I changed my hubs to the 114.3 on my new car, more choices.

Try a car stereo instillation shop. Those boys can find you a place to wire it in.

Building my 2nd Ultralite if you dont count Kevins car. I helped with his some. I have taking it slow with the economy. I have putting in more time with my business and less time playing for now.

The green car in the picture that Mondo posted has the same size tires and rims on it. They are the Team Dynamic racing wheels. I ran the Falken RT615 for street and track probably over 300 laps and they still had over 50% tread left. You cant hardly wear them out on a 7. Tires seem to change all the time. The Falken RT615 was very good at the time and very affordable compared to others. The R888 seems to be very popular. I wouldnt hesitate to run a 100 wear tire for street and track duty they should last over a year. I have run Dunlops Advan ok tire, I liked the Falken better. I ran Yokahomas about the same as the Dunlap. The best street tire that we have found that is very good in the dry and the wet is the Michilin PS2. We used them for 1 lap and we are restricted to no less than 100 wear tires. I am sure there are more sticky tires out there just the ones that I have exp with. I havent had an Ultralite on the road for over a year so I havent researched tires of late.

17x8 with 35-38 offset will handle up to a 255/45/17. That is about is large as you can go on the front. It hits the fender brackets if you go any bigger and sticks out from the fenders. You can run a 15x10 on the front and clear the brakes but you will have to change fender brackets or remove the fenders all together to run them. On the back you can run up to a 10" with a 45-48 offset. This will handle up to 275/40/17 and fits the fenders well. Your wheel pattern is a 5x100 which is hard to find in any size over 17x8. Team Dynamics makes a pretty nice wheels resaonable price and not to heavy. You will mostly likely will have to order them and it takes about 6 weeks to get here from the UK. US dist can be reached at 909 947 0114. The web site shows 17x9 but they can do 17x9.5. http://www.teamdynamicsracing.com/pro-race/Pro-race12.htm

There was a green and tan one in CA that was for sale. There were only 5 or 6 made so finding one will be a little tough. I will find out if that one is still available. -
R25 Hoosier slicks are marked improvement over most street tires. The r25 in bias ply is very light weight in comparison to a radial tire close to 10 pounds per corner. That reduced weight translates into increased acceleration and decreases braking. The added adhesion at low temps make it a great tire for autocross. The Hoosier Radial comes in an R6 and A6 I would use the A6. The R6 is hard to get up to a good temp in a light weight car. Even after 25 min session in Mojito the R6 are at the low side of the temp range. The A6 would be better for autocross and roadcoarse in a 7. If you want to compete in the autocross in an S2k I would go with 15" R25 Hoosier. Diamond racing wheel makes an affordable decent weight steel wheel made to order for about 80.00 per wheel, or you can spend 300.00 a wheel for really light weight wheels like a Douglas wheel. Going to a 15" wheel also lowers the car about 1" over the 17" wheel which helps too. My .00002 cents worth.

I like the road it looks like a blast. The car is looking good too.

Phil Anderson is organizing this year. This is the info I have. This years tour is starting to take shape. So far we have 8 confirmed participants and 3 hopefuls. We are still working on event details, but first and foremost are accommodations. We started late, Fredericksburg is a popular destination, and October is one of the prime months, so many places are already fully booked for the 23rd and 24th. I was however able to block out 10 rooms at the Sunday House Inn in Fredericksburg (http://www.sundayhouseinn.com). It is a older establishment but is well situated with plenty of places to park trailers. I have blocked 5 king and 5 double queen rooms for $97.95 per night. They still have some of their larger rooms, and suites available if you prefer. If you want to stay at the Sunday House, It is important that you book your room as soon as possible. When reserving please tell them you are part of the "7's group". More information on this years tour will be available in the next week or so.

Was the alignment dune with those tires on the car? Was he aware that you were running those slicks. I havent run the bias ply tires before, but I think that the camber should be .5 degrees or less. Radial tire can run over 1 degree. This doesnt mean that the car would handle poorly. It just wears tires faster and the car isnt at its full potential without full rubber contact. I suspect with 10" wide tires it probably does feel stuck like glue. Just imagine if you were using all 10" of the sticky stuff.

PK dont forget about the Hill Country Tour next month. It should be a great time.

It could be several issues. 1. To much camber. 2. Not driving hard enough to get the car to roll on center. If the car is sprung tight or have alot of sway bar it may not roll enough to use the whole tire. 3. To much tire pressure. Usually this will show more wear in the centers and less on the sides. Are you using bias ply slicks or radial? Bias ply slicks dont require as much camber as a radial slick. The side wall stiffness differs greatly between the two. I am far from an expert just a few items I would check. Best way to tell proper alignment is tire temp across the tire with a temp probe about 1/8-3/16 into the tire. Surface reading with a temp gun is very misleading.

That is a once in a life time oppurtunity. It must have been amazing because he kept saying it over and over again. I wonder how they can get a engine to run at that altitude if it isnt rocket powered? I am sure someone here know that piece of triva!

I couldnt get the link up from the portrait artist but he is just down from the lady doing the sand drawing. She is pretty good too.

rethinking honda s2000 question
WestTexasS2K replied to kennyrayandersen's topic in General Sevens Discussion
S2k engine is very tall compared to other four cylinders. Even with the big bump in the hood my valve cover rubs the hood just barely. Kevin is in the middle of putting a dry sump in his car with his new engine. It will buy you a few inches but the bell housing is the next thing hanging low. He is going to lower the engine about 1/2 inch from before, but the supercharger is stopping it from going any lower. There is a guy in San Antonio I forget his name that has a really nice Westfield with S2k engine in it. He went with me to the Wounded Soilders Program and we have them rides. Here is a picture of Kevins new set up you can see the dry sump pan in there. -
When Kevin and I ran 1 lap a few years ago we were talking to a QC engineer from Honda. He said they would pull engines off the assy line and bolt it to a dyno stand. They would run the engine for 8 hours at 30% redline. Change the oil and then run the engine at redline for so many hours. Change the oil and run at redline again. I cant remember what the total hours were, but we were shocked at how long they would run. I seems like it was 45 hours for a passing grade. He had told us that he had run an s2000 engine for the normal test. He stated they had some gas that was getting old so they wanted him to burn it up. He left the engine on the stand and ran it for over 100 hours total at redline before it blew. I am not sure how accurate the story is ,but that is what he said.

I have built 1 S2k particiapted in building a 2nd S2k and have a 3rd under construction. So I guess you can tell I am partial to the S2k as well. The car wasnt hard to put together and it sounds like you wont have alot of issues fabricating bits to make the car your own. I like the fact most of the parts are available at the local Oriellys or is a Jegs call away. It has very good performance and reliablity. I really like the Honda engine and tranny. They are a little shy on torque but I can start off in fourth gear with no trouble at all. They are very spry below 5k and you better be heading the direction you want to go by 6k because things happen very quickly. I personally perfer the short fat look of the S2k over the longer look of the Caterham or a Birkin. The S2K is wider than most sevens that I have seen so I fits american size butts a little better than some. I will admit that the craftsmanship on the Westfield, Birkins and Caterhams are very nice and the fit and finish is good. There have been many owner built Ultralites that come out very nice and some that leave a little to be desired as with any kit build. So for me it comes down to bang for the buck and the look you desire. P.S. If you find the 240hp a little boring Kevin and I have a solution for that problem too. -
I have shot radar many times down the front straight at Gateway. The fastest speed I have seen in 3 years out of all the cars was the Viking 7 with a twin turbo 3 Rotor engine. He clocked 144. If I rember correctly John Meyers with his LS3 Stalker was doing 142 down the straight. Kevin was doing 138 a large majority of the cars in the 125-130 area. If I rember Dennis Bruton was running 139 with his Superstalker. I think the fastest Kevin has ever been is 162. With his new engine he should be able to top that. He has plans on doing the Texas Mile a guess we will see offically how fast it going in a standing mile.
