Might be worth a call to see if you could get the backplate without that hole for use with ITB's. It looks like the link from that thread no longer works.   2. Not sure which model they were talking about Mike, but I thought most H-D's were in the 600-900 pound range. I know my son-in-laws Suzuki is under 500 pounds....I think it's a GSX-R600.
  3. I ended up using the "Right Stuff" on the advice of TheDingo8MyBaby and installed it like he recommended above. So far it seems to be working fine.
  4. I did this job a couple of months ago on a friends '92 Caterham X-flow and my experience was just like Dave's. It really wasn't that bad of a job. We ended up using Permatex "Right Stuff" RTV instead of the gasket set and the last I knew there were no leaks. I'm interested to know what oil sump you're going to use?

  10. Eric - A local friend with a 92 Caterham just went through the same search. I told him to get the lowest tread wear tire that he could afford and I think he ended up with the Toyo R1R. Treadwear rating was 140 and I think it was also one of the lightest tires in that size.   11. Eric - Congrats on your purchase, it looks like a very nice Caterham! Martin - It was good talking to you yesterday. Just to complete the story, I was planning on going to check the car out for Martin this morning when the dealership opened at 9am. I was really looking forward to it but unfortunately SOMEONE beat us to it! :toetap05: I'm real sorry I couldn't help you out sooner but hopefully you'll be able to find something similar in the near future. Let me know if there's anything else I can do.
  12. Gert - If you don't have a cooling system pressure tester see if you can borrow one. Pump it up to 16psi cold and it makes it easy to see where the leak is coming from. Before I bought my Stant tester I modified a radiator cap with a threaded valve stem and just pumped it up with a bicycle pump to the required pressure. Worked just as well but not as convenient.

  14. The only thing I remember about Bill Mitchell and SVD (different Bill Mitchell than the one that worked for GM) is that he used to do work on racing Camaros years back. I'm assuming that he still does. I don't know anything about this car but could probably stop by his shop to see if he remembers anything about it. You could also try calling him to see if he recalls doing the work on it. Do you have any photos of the car, particularly the details of the installation?   15. Mike - On my 2001 live axle Birkin the handbrake cable is adjusted at the handbrake lever, with a 10 or 12mm nut if I remember correctly. Sorry I don't have a better picture showing it but this is the best I could do. The lever and adjuster is covered by the boot in my photo. I suppose you could also adjust it at the outer cable as well. Not sure how much was changed going to the IRS model.
  16. I have no experience with a xflow, but as a comparison my '64 MGB temp gauge goes up to 230 F (equivalent to 110 C). I don't think I've ever seen any of my LBC's get anywhere near that reading and thankfully I've never had one overheat. The pressure cap in the system is 7 psi so it should raise the boiling point to appr 233 F. I might be a little overly cautious but if I ever saw a reading that high on my MGB I'd start worrying that the 48 year old cast iron cylinder head would crack! I know modern cars probably run much hotter than that but I'd start getting concerned if it started to get close to 110 C. Hopefully some xflow owners will be along to share their experience. What radiator pressure cap are you running in the cooling system?

  22. I thought this was an interesting video. That Elan looks familiar...that's not your old car is it Morgan?
  23. David - I run an Aldon-modified Lucas distributer in my '64 MGB with a Pertronix Ignitor electronic ignition. I'm not sure how similar the setup is in your car but maybe this can help. The top plate is controlled by the vacuum advance assy and the cam is controlled by centrifugal advance weights and springs. Here's a photo of my distributor showing the location of the wires, sensor, etc. There is enough slack in the wires to account for the movement of the plate with the change in vacuum. Note that there is a ground wire that goes from the brass screw in the upper center of the plate to the lower left hold down screw.
