1. Check out some of Craig's work on this pretty Ginetta G4: http://www.britishracecar.com/CraigChima-Ginetta-G4.htm
2. Quite a woman. How many wives do you know that want to turn their dining room into a garage/showroom!
3. Here's a link: http://www.uscaterham.com/showroom/available.html
4. I checked my manual and it listed spark plug torque between 9-13 ft-lbs.
5. Here's an illustration of a DSK chassis for your viewing pleasure. Lot's of extra bracing but no framework in the trans tunnel area.
6. Good one Tom. Merry Christmas everybody!
7. Sold for $14,101. I wonder who the new owner is and where it's headed?
8. Looks to be a nice series for people who live near, or are willing to travel to VIR: http://www.arielatom.com/spec-racer-atom/
9. Just remember that the Birkin version uses the short input shaft so it may not work on all makes/models.
10. Didn't meet reserve with a high bid of $14650. Back on Ebay, this time with no reserve: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lotus-Seven-Westfield-7-NO-RESERVE-/330506925876?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4cf3bf7734
11. I'm guessing by the widetrack front suspension and what looks to be an exhaust cutout on the passenger side that it's a later Birkin set up for a Duratec?? It's looking pretty nice so far!
12. Wow, if I had a commute like that I don't think I'd ever retire!
13. One of the pre-litigation Sevens made by Westfield. No affiliation, etc: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lotus-Seven-Westfield-7-/330502283308?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4cf378a02c
14. No experience with those electric heaters so I can't comment on that. I really think in a car like a Seven you should try to heat the driver/passenger and not the car itself. There's just too much air/buffeting to contend with. I've had very good luck driving this season with no top and doors by using Gerbing heated clothing. I have a heated jacket liner that I wear under a hooded sweatshirt or leather jacket, along with a balaclava and insulated gloves and I've been able to continue driving comfortably with temps dropping down into the 20's. It really is surprising how well it works. Sometimes my left (outside) hand will start to get a little cool because of the airflow so I'll just rest it on the muffler to warm it up a little! If I decided to install the doors my hands would never get cold, or if they did I could get some of the heated gloves that plug into the jacket. You can check them out here: http://gerbing.com/ Lots of strange looks, but I'll still be driving the Birkin until the first ice/snow falls and they start salting the roads.
15. What bad English engineering???
16. Tom - It's the only type of shopping I like to do. I'll keep looking!
17. New seats, harnesses, and hopefully lowered floors as well. I'm also working on hooking up a Thule fork-mount bike rack to the rollbar. We'll see how that goes....
18. Rotary powered. No affiliation, etc: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Superformance-2004-S1-Roadster-like-Lotus-Super-Seven-/270667690690?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3f050d32c2
19. On Ebay again: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Caterham-Super-7-Lotus-/150525371980?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item230c02e64c
20. Only in the Mini. Nancy is still thawing out from the trip to NJ!!
21. I saw this photo when I was checking out the Hartley V8 site. It gives a good idea of the difference between single and dual MC length. I think the Wilwood MC is almost identical in size with the Girling model.
22. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy your day!!
23. I agree with Steve that the Zetec is the easiest choice for an upgrade. Here are a couple sites with info on Xflow to Zetec conversions. Cherik's: http://my.voyager.net/~quadrant19/XF-to-Zetec.html Phil's: http://www.our-nest.co.uk/Caterham/html_files/2002_zetec_engine_swap.htm And if you're interested in going with a lighter, more modern powerplant with more hp potential, you can check out JohnCh's site where he changed from a Xflow to a Duratec in his Westfield. More involved than a Zetec because the intake and exhaust are on opposite sides: http://john15.web.officelive.com/aboutus.aspx
24. I had the pleasure of meeting Mike and checking out his car this past Sunday. The car is a real beauty and much more comfortable/roomy than my Birkin. Good luck on the sale and I can't wait to see the next project!
25. Good one Tom!
