1. Congrats on your purchase! Here's a thread to help you ID which Zetec you have: http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=5096&highlight=zetec
2. That's the first I've heard of a superwide-track suspension. Nice looking car, those rear fenders are huge!
3. Here's a link to where Tony V. added an auxiliary tank to his Caterham: http://lotusowners.com/RepairsUpgrades/Caterham/index.htm He ended up with about 17 gallon fuel capacity. I guess how big a tank you can fit depends on how much luggage capacity you want to lose and how much you can afford for a custom tank or fuel cell. After about 200 miles in my Birkin I'm ready to get out and stretch my legs!
4. Love this line! "There were a bunch of young guys going at the old cars like spider monkeys on drugs with hammers in their hands."
5. Interesting choice for the engine. It should at least be a little more oil tight than a x-flow. No affiliation, etc: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Replica-Kit-Makes-LOTUS-SEVEN-REPLICA-BUILT-WESTFIELD-SPORTSCARS-/120784177664?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1c1f4c4a00
6. I found the backsaver pad to be temperature sensitive....the colder it is the stiffer it is.
7. It just goes to show how tough the market it is for that car to only bid up to $5800. Bidding would probably have gone higher if it had a more reasonable B-I-N price with the expectation that there was a chance of meeting the reserve....
8. I remember this one being for sale a while back. It looks like quite a bit of work has been done since then. VSCCA race legal. No affiliation, etc: http://www.gullwingsearch.com/64lotus72.cfm

Geez Skip, I hope you get better soon!

11. Back on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-Caterham-Seven-Ford-Zetec-Lotus-Seven-/300600822268?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item45fd3489fc

13. Looks more like a Scarab. I think they started making recreations of the original Lance Reventlow Scarabs....
14. Do you know if those things work?
15. Nice....and tempting! How about a Lotus 15 with an aluminum V8: http://www.paulmattysportscars.co.uk/showroom/stock-detail.aspx?id=2072
16. We had around 8 inches of rain and some pretty strong winds, but nothing compared to what happened along the shore. We only lost power for a couple of minutes and that was just at the start of the F1 race at Spa. Unfortunately, several trees came down in our yard but thankfully none of them hit the house. The biggest one came down across the driveway but the weather slowed enough in the afternoon where we were able to get it cleared up so Nancy can go to work tomorrow morning. I guess I'll be spending some time with the chainsaw, leaf blower, and wood chipper tomorrow!
17. Mike - There's a Birkin wiring diagram here: http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/kJ5VTgXKUexWOT9WUGurutfjz4hTrvFyAtYUtL-J_PskJDZKyAiPGHZXSZXnwm1iiM8vZFlEot-u4Y25kbnYAmAmcFJXpEOVmOlt/birkinwiring.pdf It might not be identical to what you have, but it's a start. I blew it up and printed it on 8.5" x 14" paper and it's almost readable! I spent considerable time re-doing the wiring on my Birkin but thankfully it's been very reliable ever since. You can read a little about it here: http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2287&highlight=birkin&page=4 Congrats on your purchase. I'm sure you'll get the issues straightened out and then you can enjoy that Duratec power! :driving:
18. Welcome Hoefi. Beautiful car, enjoy!! :driving:
19. Welcome Rog, enjoy your unique car! Martin spotted it there, but I also see the white rollbar and red spare tire cover/doors in the background of the 2nd photo with the two blue Elans. Some pretty rare cars in the Malcolm Ricketts photos. Besides the MK6, MK9, Eleven, and 18, there's the Tony Bates modified fastback Elite (very nicely done!), the Type 56B P&W turbine powered F1 car (only one made, although there were some Type 56 Indy cars made), the Type 58 F2 car (only one made - the same chassis appearing as a F1 Type 57 with a Cosworth DFV), the red Europa GS which had modified front and rear bodywork of which only 8-10 were made, and the blue Elan estate which I believe only a couple were built. And I must be getting old but when I look at the picture of the light blue Elite parked next to the 340R I just can't get past the fact that some of the modern designs are just plain ugly!
20. I've owned a '72 Midget and an '89 911 and I noticed the similarity as well. Quite a bit different driving experience though!
21. I think I'd buy this one and keep the difference: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1961-Lotus-18-Formula-Junior-/180700955915?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2a129dc50b I'm another ex-PWA employee, but it happened just recently (July 1st) when the Cheshire O/Haul shop closed. Most of my time was spent as a materials engine analyst and a QC inspector/technician. I'm going to miss it but I'm in the middle of a home renovation so I have plenty to keep me busy!
22. Looks really nice KB!!
23. It could be a Mark Seven Super Seven made by the Fejer brothers in Canada. On page 45 of the book "Lotus Seven and the Independents" they describe the cars that were built in the 80's as Toyota powered and had bodywork that was primarily fiberglass. If you have anymore details let us know.
24. Here's a thread documenting my switch from the stock Birkin wheels to some Enkei RPF1/Falken RT-615's that I got from Goodwin Racing. The RPF1's are under 10 lbs in the 15 x 7 size. I've been very satisfied with the combo for my intended use: http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2557&highlight=enkei+rpf1&page=3
