  3. Thank you - I hadn't considered that, and while I might not remember exactly what I was doing, you are probably correct. I have seen your track videos, and you clearly know what you are doing. What pads do you use? My proportioning valve is located on the side of the pedal box cover. See the picture below. I did not want it in the drivers compartment because I didn't want to be tempted to play with it. The temptation to add more rear brake to get the car to turn into the corner might lead to a big mistake. I was looking around at options for parking brakes and found a mechanical valve sold by Speedway Motors. I do not think I would rely on it without putting the car in gear, but it was simple. To set the brake you step on the brake pedal and push the valve closed. To release you step on the brake pedal harder than you did to set the brake. I have a warning for you that the flexible hose that runs to the De Dion tube does not have a regular M10 1.0 thread fitting. You do not have to replace what is on the car. I put the brake valve where the normal emergency brake handle goes, and you can't put a new hard brake line in without removing all the rear suspension. I used a stainless braided line and got a new manifold for the split to the two calipers.
  4. Today I got an email from NOVA Motorsports that the parent company purchased a Portugues tire manufacturer called Camac. Camac is a small specialty tire manufacturer, much like Avon. They make a lot of tires for classic cars. Coker Tire sells their stuff. They either do or have made Rally tires. They said in the email that they were working to get important Avon employees, so we will have to see what happens.
  5. I just installed and did a track day with the Caterham AP rear brake kit. I have the AP front brakes. I have a manual proportioning valve installed and I had it set to the maximum setting to reduce the rear line pressure. I do not consider myself a good driver and would like the opinion of someone who uses the AP rear brakes. I thought I still had more rear brake than I wanted. I was getting some very minor rear lock up on turn in. A good driver drove the car and did not complain or mention it. I am not sure if it is my driving or brake pads. The fronts are Performance friction 01 compound and the rears are Pagid RS14. I was not happy with the performance friction pads before. I generally like a pad with a lot of initial bite, and I have no comparison on the Pagid pad. What are other people using for pads?

  7. I am 74 in May. My car is used on track, but I intend to tag it. I do not have a problem climbing in and out even with a roll cage. I know my track time is limited but I hope to keep driving it on the street.

Tyres & Accessories understands that Nova plans to continue the production of some of the Avon Motorsport product range independently from Goodyear."

  11. What do you feel when driving that conveys control or fun? For me I love the in-your-face direct feel of a Caterham. I love the sensation of being close to the rear axle that is nothing more than a sophisticated solid axle. I used to race go-karts and they are driven off the rear axle I love the feel conveyed from the De Dion axle, it is like a go-kart with more power so you can change the handling balance with your right foot. I get the part about bumpy roads. There are limitations. An independent rear suspension would be better over bumps, but the car would feel different.
  12. Evans waterless cool is Propylene glycol. Regular anti-freeze is ethylene glycol. It might have a surfactant in it to break the surface tension, but the real point as Croc pointed out is the high boiling point. It does not have the heat transfer rate of water, and the coolant temperature will be higher, but because of the high boiling point the system will not run under pressure. one of the unique applications of it was in high performance engines with localized cooling issues. Water would boil in the engine water jacket in a localized spot. An example might be around the exhaust valve, and then condense back to liquid. The result could be detonation. In the 1980s the guy who started this company and the reverse cooling idea got money from GM to work on it, and Chevy built a production engine with reverse cooling for a few years.

  16. You are using the same technics I typically use with one exception. When I get the part hot, I have found using candle wax helpful. Hope it works for you.
  17. Len Terry might not have gotten a chance to build this suspension system, but he did design the 1965 Indy 500 winning Lotus with Jim Clark driving.
  18. I haven't modeled the Mumforf link either, but it looks like the roll center is fixed to the two bolts on the car. The two bell cranks allow the differential to roll but not move laterally. It would be very interesting to have a suspension design that allowed equal lateral roll center movement towards the inside of a turn.
  19. You are correct, I do not have a O2 sensor or a catalytic converter. If you have one O2 sensor before the cat you can just put the sensor in the new pipe. If you have two sensors you will need to have a tuner turn off the second O2 sensor in the ECU.
  20. Here is my exhaust. I have a very similar car to yours. From the header flange it has a 2 1/2-inch pipe to a 4-inch MagnaFlow muffler part 10416. It exits in front of the tire and has a turn down to help with the noise. You do not want the exhaust pointed straight if you use it on a racetrack. They have sound meters and pointing at the sound meter will set it off. I had the original muffler cover and I cut it down to fit the new muffler and painted everything black. Sorry my car is apart, and this is the only picture I have of the exhaust.
  21. I have a Raceline cast wet sump pan and a very simple skid plate. It works great. I have gone off at several racetracks and never had a problem. The plate just rides up over. it is held on by radiator clamps. I got it that way and haven't bothered to install tabs to bolt it on. Crude and effective.
