  1. Ford did re-cast the Kent blocks. I think they have done it several times and there have been periods they were not available. F/F in the UK is going back to the Kent engine and Honda is not supporting the Fit engine that was used in these cars. A Kent powered car won at this year's run offs. You can get the BDG (2.0) block, but it is very expensive. There are companies that are making heads and blocks for the BD Cosworth engines.
  2. The Ford T-9 transmission should use API GL-4 oil. Do not use GL-5, it is too slippery and the synchronizers will not work as well. You will probably find oil that meets GL-4 and GL-5. Do not use that. Use oil that meets GL-4. I use Red Line. It is expensive but it works.
  3. Make sure you use the correct oil. The oil used in differentials is different than transmission oil. The newest differential oil is actually too slippery for transmissions. If the car was used on track check the clutch for ware and make sure it is completely disengaging.
  4. I do not know how many miles on your car. Check the U joint. The problem is the drive shaft comes out the back. You have to take the differential out. What is the condition of the clutch?
  5. There is a gasket that goes between the transmission and the bellhousing. I assume you are getting a complete transmission to install.
  6. Real race tires do not have a very low bias angle and will pull on anything except a perfectly flat road. It is like driving a car with a lot of toe out.
  7. Wow! I do not know what else I can say. In my opinion the best track in Europe and maybe the world. Thank you so much for the pictures and description. As a kid I waited for my Road & Track to read Rob Walker's reports on the F-1 races. Spa had epic races and the pictures like yours were great. Up the hill from the start finish line is one of the most memorable in racing.
  8. Most people like 13 inch wheels and tires. I believe the reason is the lighter weight. The high-power cars Caterham sells generally have 13x6 inch front and 13X8 inch rear wheel. I would probably use 6 inch wheels and 205X60-13 tires. Toyo makes a goop tire for our cars. The best tires for our cars are Avon, but they are not going to make our tires anymore. Hopefully someone else will. Our cars are so much lighter than anything else, tires are not made with our cars in mind. I am sure others will have different opinions, but those are my thoughts.
  9. I am very disappointed but understand the tracks position. I was really looking forward to coming. I want to Thank Croc and Yellowss7 for all the effort to make this one and all the previous ones happen.
  10. Anticipation - Do I start getting things ready? The frustration of being on hold.
  11. Hopefully this helps.
  12. Great News!! looking forward to seeing you and your car!!
  13. I have the same alternator on my car. The one I have has been modified to produce more AMPs by a company called Powermaster. Be careful about how fast the alternator spins. Check the diameter of the crank and alternator pullies and make sure you keep the alternator speed under 15,000 RPMs. My engine spins to 7500 on overspeed and I durned one up.
  14. I bought Michael D's car and have the skid plate Alderman put on the car. It is much simpler than the one at the start of this thread. It is no more than a piece of diamond plate aluminum attached to the frame just like the pictures at the start of the thread and bent down under the oil pan. It does not roll around the frame tube, and no attempt at bending the sides of the plate to strengthen the unsupported part of the plate before going under the oil pan. The only forming to the plate was to bend it down from the rear frame attachment to go under the oil pan, then bend it back so it rides along the bottom of the pan. There are four slots cut in the plate and hose clamps go through the slots and around the frame tubes to secure it to the car.
  15. Can't wait! All I need to do is wash the car.
  16. you might want to check and make sure the rear suspension is in line with your front suspension.
  17. Looking forward to pictures. Cosworth BD engines are perfect for a 7. Make sure the carburetors are rubber mounted. That might have been your friends problem.
  18. Congratulations to Perter Norton! He finished third to two Z-3 BMWs. On the surface that doesn't sound great until you realize VIR has very very long straightaways. Hard to overcome the 2.5 L six.
  19. Car Builders Solution is a great resource. If I had known about them, I could have saved myself days of screwing around building a switch panel.
  20. Saturday I was at a track event and my instructor was Michael Lysczek. He got me because he was an instructor at Summit Point for your event. He said he really enjoyed the event and wore the shirt because he wanted to show me.
  21. I want to complain about modern car servicing, but I will start by saying that our education system ignores anything except collage preparation, and it does a poor job of that. The English apprentice programs produced some very skilled people, but they shoehorned people as well. Now on to 4Cs. They aren't the only ones, but they were supposed to be selling a sports car. I wanted to turn off the nannies and couldn't figure out how to do it. I have a number of friends that work at Chrysler. I know a lot of the people involved with Viper. They couldn't help me. I don't need the car braking on its own in the middle of a corner.
  22. These two documents might be helpful Caterham7 T2.001.pdf ECU Pinout Zetec T-2.pdf
  23. Yes I am using a Pectel and a Zetec. Happy to help if I can. Hopefully you can get your car together. I haven’t had problems with the engine or the ECU. Plenty of other issues, especially electrical.
  24. Thank you for the more descriptive explanation. If you purchase wires as a universal kit they will come with loose terminals that need to be crimped on the wire before inserting in into the distributor cap. The 7 MM wires with their terminals will fit the cap. If you get 8 MM wires you will need to get adaptors. Older cars used 7 MM wire and the cross flow Ford engine is set up for 7 MM wire.
