  1. The other way round. All weight in the back and none in front makes the car prefer to be driving in reverse. When at university many, many years ago, some of the students made money by driving rental cars back to their home countries. The VW Beetle was the most accident prone and we teasingly named the accidents where they ran backwards into some obstruction at high speed after the student who had happen at the highest rate.

It is more likely the issue is toe-in. For track use I would set the front toe-in at zero degrees. You may prefer slightly more front toe-in, but it sounds like you have way too much.
  3. "Knowing his age, he sold when he was 61. I guess he realized he was getting too old to be getting in and out of the seven." I will be 72 in a couple of weeks and I just bought a Caterham!
  4. The voting is biased against the price. They clearly don't know what they are looking at.
  5. Oops, need to fix the profile! :-)
  6. Poor suckers like me have to resort to things like this when we run out of garage space !
  7. This thread amply demonstrates the benefits and risks of a digital world. It is fun, however!
  8. They could easily be made on my 3D printer in ABS or Nylon, both of which are fuel resistant and heat resistant enough for trumpets. I can't print in metal (yet). Anker
  9. With Google Maps it is simple to do an extract from the member "database" and load it into maps. What gets shown is 100% up to the person creating the map. Car pictures can have license plates obscured and are completely optional. I found it easy to use and like the result.
  10. The previous owner of my car recommended PennGrade SAE 20W-40 Partial Synthetic.
  11. Here's a link to the Caterham and Seven Owners in the USA map: https://tinyurl.com/sx6tcnc
  12. I implemented a member map for the Caterham and Seven Owners in the USA Facebook group. The map is an interactive Google maps with pins for every member who has agreed to be on the map. Optionally, the member can also supply a short blurb, for example about the car, interests, or anything else, and picture(s) of the car(s). clicking on a pin pops up the information of the member. It makes it really easy to see who is close. For privacy reasons the location can simply be city, state and country. Any interest in having that feature here?
  13. I assume you are the Chris that used to own Sevens & Elans in Massachusetts and then retired to sunny Florida. I bought the 1987 Caterham that you built and sold, that then was resold to Bill Seymour. Bill was very sad to see it go, but he had moved on to racing in a Spec Ford and put autocrossing on the shelf. I am a good friend of Bill's and am in the process of getting the car back to prime condition. In your customer gallery you mention my car, which is the one that Road & Track borrowed for their test. Bill was generous enough to give me his copy of the issue that the test was published in. I am in Islamorada all of February and will be passing through Saint Augustine on March 1st. Unfortunately that is a Sunday, otherwise I would have likes to stop by and say hello!
  14. Just to let you all know, I am buying the wheels from Paul.

    I am green with envy!
  16. Worked when I just tried it again. I didn't think there were enough of us to crash the web site! :-)
  17. Jefferson is only 3 hours from here, so I could pick up. My guess is that they are 14" rims with 185/60R14 tires mounted. Can you send pics to anker at ankersoft.com?
  18. The link doesn't work for me. Comes up with a blank page.
  19. Size? Please pardon my ignorance. I am in Massachusetts, so roughly where in Maine?
  20. Hmmmm. At some point maybe sooner rather than later I will have to rebuild my Xflow 1700 Superspeed. I am going to spend this winter catching up on maintenance and replacing simple things like ignition, carb caskets, installing a catch can for the oil breather, etc.. Then drive for a season, mostly autocrossing, and then decide whether it is time for a rebuild and whether it will be just the head or the whole engine. Sounds like sourcing parts is the biggest issue. I don't like the idea of having to order several sizes of oversize bearings and using one. One of the reasons whuy I like the Ford Kent is because it is used for Formula Ford, but there are so many Caterham-specific parts in my engine (the entire head, cam shaft, pistons, ...) that I suspect I'll end up with the same issues. Not something to look forward to. Good luck, and please keep up with documenting the story!
  21. Worst case you can make your own from spring steel. You can get a constant tension spring from McMaster for very little money and use it to make several clips.
  22. We don't need no stinkin ECUs! We just turn the idle adjustment screw. Proud owner of a Ford Xflow 1700 Supersprint!
  23. He had what I need and i bought a set from him. Thanks for the pointer!
  24. Thanks! Will do!
