  1. Things are so different from the 60s, when you had to sacrifice weight for horsepower. V8s are all aluminum now... 4 cylinders can make ungodly HP... It's really driver preference rather than handling issues nowadays.
  2. More downward spiraling for the middle class. The article tries to imply workers are better off in "Right to Work" states. I guess citizens of those states are better off than not having those jobs available but as a nation we're worse off... any way you look at it, those workers in Right to Work states get less compensation. Could be in salary, healthcare, retirement etc.. That's why companies move there. It's only a matter of time before that same company moves to Mexico or India... for the same reasons. Then who are North Carolina workers going to complain to; the same policitians that are bought by these corporations. We had a "closed shop" where I worked. All it meant was if you didn't want to be associated with the union, the amount equal to union dues was taken out of your paycheck and given to a charity of your choice. Seemed fair to me as that person was getting the same wages/benefits that the union negotiated for. Kept him/her from having a "freeloader" image. I wouldn't call that "forced to join a union".
  3. Man, that's 300lbs lighter than mine! But I have front fenders;)
  4. Well I thought the world was going to end, so what the heck... I agree that the average age on this site is probably up there. ,
  5. I bought a 2005 base for my daughter last year... I heard of problems with the automatic on certain years (replacement is 7 grand!). Taught her to use the 5 speed. It's been a good car so far. The quality and room is impressive. Parts/repairs can be expensive though. I'd buy it again.
  6. I can't stand wind noise as it distracts me, so luckily I've worn earplugs since the beginning. That being said, I'm sure I've lost some hearing due to riding in fire engines before they gave us headsets.
  7. While the intention is valid, I'm afraid Florida will find the cost of testing much more than the money saved denying funds to those on drugs. Good for drug testing labs I guess... but how many do they think they will find? This is not one of those "if we only find one, it will be justified" type of things. Nor "it will send a message to drug users". It'll just demonstrate another case of conservatives wasting money on ideology. Wouldn't it be better to use that drug testing money putting those "able-bodied" unemployed to work doing something for the community (actually they should use the money they're already paying those on public assistance). At least it would make them feel like they're earning the money and perhaps give them a little self-esteem. And all State employees being drug tested too? Isn't that kind of a presumed guilty kind of thing? This will be even more of a waste of taxpayer money. I understand a drug test initially (they do that for truck drivers, oilwell workers etc...) and maybe randomly for some super critical jobs but after that it should be for cause... like a vehicle accident, behavior issues etc.. I'm getting tired of all this demonizing of government workers, and of government in general. Our largest problems lately have come from deregulation of Wall St, big corporations scamming/lobbying etc... Also our own voting for politicians that don't have the middle class as their priority. We all can't be entrepreneurs, business owners, blue bloods etc... we've been giving them breaks for 30 years and it hasn't benefitted the middle class. We've been stagnant as the rich get richer. The vast majority of us are workers (even in government). We, the voters, need to take much of this blame. Ok, off the soapbox...
  8. I like this kind of information... shows we're not all couch potatoes, watching The Bachelor, Jersey Shore & other Jerry Springer type crap. I've been thinking that the music group Devo might of been right back in the 80s... Devo is short for De-evolution which they believed is where we're heading.
  9. You could always take it to a drifting school/event... a guy like me would need a traction control option to help with the lack of skill and over enthusiasm I tend to have.
  10. Looks nice. I'm curious about the design... what's the benefit of this shape, access, aero?

Reminds me of this classic... laugh every time I see it
  12. Yeah, have to admit my tire size is more for vanity than speed. If I get serious about track days, I'll downsize (both diameter & width). I have a 3.90 rear end so 15in wheels would make a big difference. Right now, I'm just having a blast driving it around anywhere (until the heat sets in)
  13. You'll probably need the original bill of sale for the kit, and the major parts... and not show any registration of the car. Unless you absolutely have fallen in love with that particular brand/model, you might want to keep your options open. Finding replacement "donor" parts might be difficult in the U.S. (suspension/steering bits, Euro-spec motor stuff etc...)
  14. I know that you know I knew what you know what I know you know I knew....
  15. Hope you went with some wider rims while you were at it...

  20. or should I say bike
  21. Wow! Hope your feeling better. Topnotch work your doing. Kind of surprised you didn't do a similar thing with the front suspension and go for a cleaner look with an inboard-shock design (doubt any of us could tell the difference in handling). Keep up the good work. Wish I had your skills... look forward to more progress.
  22. This was a class to basically get to know your own car... which it does well. Was put on by the Alpha Romeo Club.
