I went to a "Driving School" (car insurance still applies) at Willow Springs last month. Their Streets of Willow track (they have 3 tracks there) is a tighter track and great for a beginner like me. They also had a wet skid pad and slalom to test the limits before going out on the track without creating a lot of drama. I had a blast and feel a lot more confident in the car now. Drove to and from the track Sat/Sun... like the idea "run what you brung". Keeps me from getting as serious as you;) Need a new helmet before the next trackday though.

Mike, I have a 2005 motor (F22 I think) and never could get the stock ECU to work properly concerning the VTEC. You should get a cheap code scanner. It will tell you all the fault codes... some won't matter (no smog pump etc..). Mine would rev all the way maybe 3-5 times and then it would cut out around 7 grand. Turn off car/battery switch, start back up, and it would do the same thing again. Does the idle change by a few hundred rpm at times? I would remove all the trouble codes (with the scanner) and start the car. My idle went up when the VSS trouble code came on.. also any misfires. Seems the ECU couldn't read/process the speedometer signal from the transmission. Finally went with an aftermarket ECU to solve the problem.

Liberal senator wants your money for your car

I wouldn't mind it so much if it replaced the gas tax (which basically serves the same purpose). They're going to have to do something when the roads are being used by more high mpg & electric cars. -
His solution is the way it used to be before deregulation... Dan Dicker, who has spent nearly three decades in the oil market, has a profoundly disturbing explanation of why the price of oil, and the gasoline that comes from the crude product, has risen so dramatically in recent months. It turns out, Dicker says, that the price has nothing to do with supply and demand for oil. It's the financial market for oil, filled with both professional speculators and amateur investors betting on poorly understood oil exchange-traded funds, who have ratcheted up the price of gas to such sky high levels. "There is no supply issue going on here -- what you have is the perception of the possibility of a supply issue," Dicker says. "A whole bunch of people are pouring money into an oil market trying to take advantage of what they perceive to be a real risk in supply. It's a marketplace that I argue should not be allowed to be wagered on like a stock or bond." Dicker notes that Libya produces only 1.3 million barrels of oil a day, just a tiny fraction of the world oil market. Even if Libyan crude were lost to the world market in the current turmoil, and there is no sign that it is, Saudi Arabia has 5 million barrels a day to use in case of an emergency. Dicker, who has just published a book called Oil's Endless Bid: Taming The Price of Oil To Secure Our Economy, makes a strong case that if the government stepped in and regulated oil trading so that only investors with a genuine interest in the physical product, such as airlines and heating oil companies, could buy and sell oil futures, then the price of oil would fall by 50% overnight and our economy would be much better off. ,

An Italian altar boy goes to confession.... 'Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a loose girl'. The priest asks, 'Is that you, little Joey Pagano ? 'Yes, Father, it is.' 'And who was the girl you were with?' 'I can't tell you, Father. I don't want to ruin her reputation'. "Well, Joey, I'm sure to find out her name sooner or later so you may as well tell me now. Was it Tina Minetti? 'I cannot say.' 'Was it Teresa Mazzarelli?' 'I'll never tell.' 'Was it Nina Capelli?' 'I'm sorry, but I cannot name her.' 'Was it Cathy Piriano?' 'My lips are sealed.' 'Was it Rosa DiAngelo, then?' 'Please, Father, I cannot tell you.' The priest sighs in frustration. 'You're very tight lipped, and I admire that. But you've sinned and have to atone. You cannot be an altar boy now for 4 months. Now you go and behave yourself.' Joey walks back to his pew, and his friend Franco slides over and whispers, 'What'd you get?' 'Four months vacation and five good leads'

1 A wife is a sex object. Every time you ask for sex, she objects. 2 Impotence: Nature's way of saying: 'No hard feelings....' 3 There are only two four letter words that are offensive to men: 'don't' and 'stop', unless they are used together. 4 Panties: Not the best thing on earth, but next to the best thing on earth. 5 There are three stages of sex in a man's life: Tri Weekly, Try Weekly, and Try Weakly. 6 Having sex is like playing bridge… If you don't have a good partner, you'd better have a good hand. 7 Marriage is the only war where you get to sleep with the enemy. 8 Q: What are the three biggest tragedies in a man’s life? A: Life sucks, job sucks, and the wife doesn't. 9 Q: Why do men find it difficult to make eye contact? A: Breasts don't have eyes. 10 Despite the old saying: 'Don't take your troubles to bed'. Many men still sleep with their wives

One of the reasons I chose the Ultralite was parts... honda drivetrain & "Speedway Catalog" parts. That being said, if there's a Caterham/Birkin group around I would really weigh that in. These guys can be fanatical about their cars and know all the quirks and fixes. They will save you a lot of aggrevation when nobody else has a car like yours. Decisions, decisions.... .

I think this S1 would be the best car for you, it's the most civilized. http://usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?t=6298 As far as 7s go, keep in mind, there's no real dealer type service on these. Basically have to find a good mechanic or have good mechanical skills. The "direct feel" we all talk about comes at the expense of cup holders, radio, insulation, rattles etc.. (3:30 in) You really need to drive a few before you commit to making it a daily driver. Most likely, you'll love driving it... but not in traffic, on hot days, or really cold days etc.. You don't want to put yourself in a position that you dread driving what is really such a fun car. Besides the S1, Birkin and Caterham probably have the best weather kits.... but think old jeep rather than miata when it comes to tops/doors. I bought a weather kit with my Ultralite but never put it on... I like the full windshield & want to put on a shade top (bikini) instead. Also want some side protection (adding to the roll bar) and this will eliminate the use of the weather kit. I'm not trying to disuade you... just want to give you some things to think about. A corvette is like a cadillac as far as comfort & convienance in comparison (and handling!) Hey, I was going to put A/C in my car (it is an option). But when you truly see what a 7 is about, it would almost be sacraligious. Loren does have a kit available and his experience building/racing S2ks could certainly give you a car that's dependable & fast (can't beat a honda drivetrain for that)... But I doubt you'd be driving it to work most of the time (any 7 really).

Well I had a blast out on the track... I think they may have aged a bit. They did ok, and they gave good progessive feedback as far as letting go (had fun on the skid pad too). Ran them at 16lbs cold (they got to 20-22lbs when returning to the pits) so I don't know if less pressure would of made them stickier.

That looks fantastic! I'm really interested in your seats too. Mine is too wide... look forward to how you feel about them after a couple hours in the car. You might think about a some padding on the top of the tunnel for your forearm/elbow. I like the trim I have on my side sills (check my album), they're kind of spongy/soft. Nice feel when getting in/out. Don't know where he got the stuff though. So how close are you to having it on the road?

If you really want a thrill, try to hook up with 7evin... 380hp in a 1400lb car is pretty wild.

I have them on mine... but don't really have anything to compare them to as that's what came with the car. Going to the track this weekend though... should have more to say about it later. They have 8000 miles and are almost 3 years old so might have to take that into consideration.
