Deciding between Birkin and Caterham SV
gjslutz replied to JeffC's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I did as Dave did with my ULTRASHIELD seat and pedals. I'm 6'1&1/2" 210 LBS & wear size 12 shoes. With a narrow shoe and the pedals adjusted for me it fits well. I also tried out the SV and it fit with no work at all. Gary -
Mazda, you do live right! Gary

I live just S. of Akron, and have never seen this car yet. It is rare that I'm in Akron though. Gary

Lowflyer, I plan on Indian Bend This Sat. PM. I was there last Sat as well. I'm not sure about next Sat. Gary

Skip, Best wishes for a speedy recovery. From what others have said it could be sooner than expected before you are in the driver’s seat again. I would think you will find a long list of friends willing to take you out in your 7 to keep your smile glowing:) Remember the movie line “wax on wax off”, that could possibly be great hands on PT. With no medical knowledge or experience on my part, it is another grain of salt. Gary

Speeding Tickets ...and what cops say...your best story
gjslutz replied to DB6's topic in General Sevens Discussion
A friend once told me to fight every speeding ticket as if it was the last points you could take, they all add up. I found if you go with the not guilty plea and hire a lawyer, you come out much better. It puts you into the good old boy system as the judge is also a lawyer. You don’t save any money on the cost, but at times come out clean, or with much reduced points. A few years of not being gouged so bad on your insurance will make up for the legal cost. Some of the “crime fighters” are behind the curve on operating the equipment, and that sure helps. The best very best defense would to show a forged drivers license and only speak Spanish, check with your friends in law enforcement as to how great the illegal’s are handled, or go sit in a court and see for yourself. The people in Colorado have many stories to tell on this. No disrespect for “good” law enforcers, but as I once was told, it is a speeding tax. Gary -
I did the same, but use the engine dipstick. Gary

DB, It isn’t as bad as it sounds, but has the best results. As different bulb assemblies have different light patterns, I have found marking a wall or door will not to give the best driving results. The use of a towel draped over each light as you adjust the other, makes the illuminated area from each light easy to see. I try to run as white of light as possible, with the best high wattage bulbs I can find, “if I’m running a dual bulb assembly”. With good lenses optics that has a defined cut of area it is possible to adjust the lights as not to be a hazard to others, if not stay with lower wattage. If you drive in areas of traffic all of the time, I would stay away from the high wattage bulbs. I do too much driving in areas where I need all the light I can get for the speed. Gary

DB By far the best I have found is to find the long "DARK" straight road W/O traffic. I then cover one upheadlight and adjust the other, and then swap to the other side. This gave me the best results. Have the car loaded as you will be loaded most of the time. This even is better if you have a second person adjust as you talk the person through it. Gary

ATTENTION-MAJOR UPDATE FOR 2009 EVENT!!!
gjslutz replied to sparecr's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Well 700+ miles for me, and have reservations, in many ways. The question is tow, or drive. If I drive how to do it. What windshield will depend if I have a roof, if so I will need the too short for use roll bar. Then the question of tires. I still remember the drive to and from Carlisle floating and down the roads. The smart thing is tow. The adventure is to drive. Gary -
Martin & Mazda, Thanks, the photos are great. Gary

Garage floor epoxy coating advice.
gjslutz replied to sporqster's topic in General Sevens Discussion
For me it was about having a clean good looking floor. Untreated concrete will always give off concrete dust. I had done mine in white epoxy for reflective lighting. I, like the rest had hopes of spending some money up front for a one time purchase. For the first year it looked great. I wish I had done what Jerry did with the tile; it is the best I have seen. I had a tile floor in a 28' enclosed trailer and it was easy to clean. Gary -
Garage floor epoxy coating advice.
gjslutz replied to sporqster's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I did my 3000 sq ft toy box with epoxy and it lasted about 1 year. I like the tile, but the cost! As I also do a little welding in it, I doubt if I will do anything with it. Gary -
Caterham CSR260-anyone own one in southern California??
gjslutz replied to Maverick1's topic in General Sevens Discussion
The first glance in the rear view mirror made me think F-1 due to the wide front arms, it wasn't behind for long. Gary -
Who will get framed? Gary

So What is the Status of your 7 now that WINTER is here?
gjslutz replied to MHKflyer52's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Now that I'm down to 1 airplane, I have my 3,000 sq ft heated hanger some what filled with car stuff & other things I must need. Even with a 3 car garage I run out of room. I know there must be something I don't need. No snow on the roads, but too much road salt for the 7. Gary -
I’m glad to learn all are able to get into their 7’s. I’m so old I moved the trampoline from the bedroom to the garage to help get into the 7. Gary

lowflyer, please post if you go up to the Saturday PM car show on Indian Bend, in Scottsdale. I'm there sometimes in late Jan. through Mar. W/O the 7 though. Gary -
Hi jrc, Like Bruce said, I also made spacers for the front fenders. Depending on what wheels I run, I can run some 8MM spacers behind the wheels also. I do like the handling of the R888's. I also have a set of the Falkin RT-615's, that I use in the rain. They are a little hard and don't hook up real well in the dry. I couldn't get 225's in 15" with the R-615, so the foot print is a little narrow. My car came with longer studs on the hubs, so I have some options with three sets of wheels. The 3rd set is with V710 slicks, they are also 225/50's and are the best traction I have. Now if I can just find an slight oil leak, replaced the rear main seal twice in the last few weeks. I'm not sure where the oil came from though. With the salt Ohio uses, I have only run it on the lift so far. Enjoy the Birkin Gary

I thought I saw where it had sold. Gary

And the wife thought the Golf cart that I put the 750 Honda "4" in was unsafe. Some said that after a 70 MPH ride it was like sitting on the top of a step ladder @ 100 MPH, few went for the 2nd ride. Gary

When I had the roof on my seven, I could have sold tickets of me trying to stuff my much abused, too large of frame in and out of it. Folks I feel for you and know way too much about what you are going through. What you do and achieve with your disabilities, depends on how deep your commitment to success is. For some it isn’t worth the pain for the gain, for others only death can stop them, your choice. “And then I saw a man with no feet” Gary

Yes I agree, but the long drive in the rain!! Gary

Dave, While you have the head off, I would open up those small restrictive ports. There is much to be gained there. I pulled my head and sent it to Focus Tom in N.C. as he done many. There other good people out there as well. Years ago I did my own P&P, but was unsure of the results. I also had the Stage III cams installed. There was no loss on the bottom end TQ. It still pulls like a train at low RPM's, look out after 3500. I then took the car down and he adjusted the cam gears while doing a dyno tune. The results were day & night. I just installed the Oil pump with billet gears, now I can turn up the RPM to 8,000. I won't gain any HP, just a larger working band. It can save a shift between turns. Thanks to AL. Gary

Bruce, I had my T-9 filled to the bottom of the fill plug prior pulling the engine. I drained 6.2 Pints out, way over filled. I installed the SPEC II clutch & pressure plate while I had the engine out. It feels way too soft on the pedal, but I felt no slip on the test drive today. My other clutch felt better on the pedal. Due to 32'f today I had to change over to the Falken 205/15s, as soon as it cam up on cam in 2nd it would break loose, I miss thr R888's.
