  1. I would like a photocopy or e-copy but having it as a item of memorabilia isn't my thing. I store more than enough stuff already.
  2. It is always good to remember that just because someone offers to let you fly with them or take a ride on the track you don't have to say yes.
  3. RossD; What can you tell us about the picture? When was it taken? Details man details!
  4. I was reading about a Saab 2-stroke powered 7 hill climb car from back in the day. Now that different.
  5. Very nice. The multiple colors on the front suspension give it a bit more pop.
  6. I will be doing that with the seat bottoms. I am going to a local shop that I have used before (Newport News VA). It is simple work. Any competent shop should be able to do a good job.
  7. That is one of the reason I like the Lotus twin-cam. Plenty of parts and support. If someone wanted to go high-tech there is a fuel injection option that is a direct bolt on for the Stromberg head. That and replacing the distributer with crank angle based direct ignition would free up a bunch of power. Still I gather that 170 hp is about the limit unless you go to heroic levels to keep the engine together.
  8. The first name and NY seem correct to me and the Lotus Ltd directory has a guy with that name, an Elan and a NY address.
  9. There was a guy who had a very neat installation of a Toyota engine in his Elan. He showed up with the car a few of the New England LOGs.
  10. Great pictures. Interesting idea. They give the car a classic (retro?) look.
  11. I've seen both BMW and Nissan powered Se7ens. I have a BMC-A powered car. Kyle has a Lotus engined Se7en (I forget if it is the 907 or 910 engine). I've heard of some Lexis V8 engined Se7ens but I don't know if they were actually built. The company may have gone bust prior to completing any.
  12. In the latest issue of reMARQUE (The Lotus Ltd magazine Sept-Oct 2010, I receive it much later than most. The letter carriers must pass it around for a week or two) has an article "Start Your Seven" by Dave Kirk that talks about the joys of push starting a Birkin in the winter in Montana. It even includes two pictures displaying the Birkin badge and is complimented by and ad from Texas Motor Works purveyor of Birkins.
  13. Congratulations. I had the 1+ year engine rebuild experience. I will never again go to a "race engine" builder with a non-race engine.
  14. I had offered to buy a drink for any driver of a Lotus built 7 (I figured that any moder 7 was guaranteed to run faster and didn't want to break the bank) that turned in a faster time than I did. Most did run faster but nobody bothered to collect their reward. Oh well. I was very impressed with the times I turned. I expected to be much slower (relatively) than I was. I can't give the credit to my driving, my tires (135x15) or the 1,000 cc BMC-A engine. It has to be due to the merits of the basic design. If I lost 50 lbs the times would have been better.

    2010 Eurofest

We attended Eurofest (Spartansburg SC) again. Only our M100 an Esprit and a very nice Seven series 4. The Seven is for sale at Lotus of Greenville - No affiliation.
  16. I'm a quarter of the weight of my 7. Pretty soon my Dr will need a hoist to examine me and my mechanic wont.
  17. We're talking about Se7ens. Just pick the thing up and put it on sawhorses.
  18. I suggest that the national event committee of USA7s consider have a formal agreement between themselves and the organizers of LOG 31. There is strength (and better prices) in numbers. Some events could be shared and some separate. USA7s could solicit participation and sponsorship from such as Birkin, Westfield, Caterham and etc. LOG 29 was a shared event with the Mercedes club. Each club had separate events that focused on their unique interests and events in common. The Talladega lapping and Drivers Education events were shared (and maybe some other events such as the autocross). The receptions and car shows were kept separate. Of course Lotus and Mercedes Benz are vastly different cars that attract different personality types. It is sometimes easier to get along with strangers than brothers.
  19. So at LOG 31 will there be a shuttle bus between the Red Rock Hotel and the Mustang Ranch?
  20. I did hear of some people being unfriendly to drivers of non-Lotus manufactured cars. I can only state my own opinion - I am sorry that such incidents occurred. If it were up to me I would formally invite all Se7en manufacturers to LOG. I have stated before that the Balkanization of the Se7en community would be a disservice to those who love the type. On the other hand: 1 - I do take some offense of non-Lotus built cars wearing Lotus badges. Be proud of your car. Nobody claims that a Se7en is a practical car. It is a hobby car. People purchase a specific make and model (or scratch build a car) because they wanted it. Support your manufacturer. Display the manufacturers badge proudly. 2 - Lotus Ltd has the specific mission of supporting Lotus. The club's governing recognizes that the Seven lives on in many forms. Legally the Seven name lives on via Caterham. In spirit it lives on by multitude of manufactures. Please don't paint an entire club by the actions and words of a few individuals. If someone organizes a Se7en event I will try to attend especially if Lotus built cars are allowed.
  21. Old 135-15 tires don't have much grip which makes sliding the rear so much fun. I know that I was grinning like an idiot during the autocross. One of the cool things was that there were spectators who actually applauded cars and drivers that did well: beginners who improved their runs, people who pushed hard, smooth driving... Some Se7en specific pictures plus a plug for LOG 31
  22. I had a great time at the autocross! I had one big slide and expected to be the only one to do a loop at the event. The Seven recovered! Wow! I never used the brakes just lifted. When I lifted while initiating the turn the car started to rotate. I could then turn with my right foot. Impressive number of Se7ens at the autocross. Did anyone record the times?
  23. The Colorado folks arrived Wednesday night with their caravan of Se7ens & Elans.

    Log 30

About 20 people are already working away on setup. Three Lotus Seven's in attendance already. Two trailered and Bill B. who drove from upstate NY.
