  1. What is the feature called that allows you to program routes from a PC and load them to a GPS? This is the feature that I want in a new GPS.
  2. Hijacking the thread a bit... So you recommend the backsaver pad? How do you use it? Seat? Seat back? Lumbar support?
  3. This is an event that I have wanted to attend for serveral years. It is always one thing or another that prevents me from going. I want a nice write up and pictures from anyone who attends. Live vicariously throught others!
  4. I don't normally watch these but this one was interesting to me http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/24/caterham-r300-superlight-tackles-the-nurburgring/#continued A much better and braver driver than I
  5. Thanks for the tip. Where can you find a Tyvex cover at a good price.
  6. It looks like it will be fun. Interesting wheels.
  7. I took another ride today and I have a few musings to relate. The SU float jets were stuck again. A bit of fiddling with a screwdriver and a small shot of starting fluid helped me get going. It is hot and humid today but a bit of breezy turbulence kept all but my transmission side leg cool. I went for gas but the neighborhood station was closed. Rush hour is too crazy to drive to another gas station so I put it away earlier than I had planned. I left the house with only one gallon showing on my trusty dip stick! I added a modern suction cup mirror to the top of the windscreen. It helps quite a bit. With one side mirror a low center mirror and the high center mirror I can now adjust things to see much more than the top of the spare tire and the right rear fender. Usually I have been driving while wearing Piloti driving shoes. Today I jumped in with my grubby boat shoes. It is much more difficult to work the clutch and brake. The stiffness of the driving shoes makes the perceived pedal effort much less. The car got dusty sitting. I need a car cover. Hopefully I can find some non-ethanol enhanced fuel and run an autocross on July 3rd. With a bit of thought I might be able to rig up a video camera to record my run. Now that would be interesting. Very few cars assume the cranked over position of the 7 when pushed hard. The exposed wheels make it look even more extreme.
  8. Thanks everyone. I dived into the engine today. Thankfully I have a nice air compressor and impact driver, stud remover and with some very thin wrenches in odd sizes. Today I drained the old oil, removed the clutch, distributer, intake, exhaust, side cover, plugs & head. I am soaking the pistons with Marvel mystery oil (I buy it in quarts). Soaking the removable bits with penetrating oil certainly helped. It looks like the engine is rebuild-able, even the distributer is salvageable. It has had at least some prior work in the modern magic sealer era. I expected a flat head engine would have had some work in its past. One boar looks good, two are rusty and one is a mess. I suspect that there was a leak from the cooling passages into #1 cylinder and the engine was stored tipped to the right for a long time. I will clean up what I can then reassemble it using lots of never seize and grease before putting it away for a future rebuild.
  9. Should be under 900 lbs as my car is well under 1000 lbs with a BMC-A engine and half a tank of gas. Of course it is easy to add weight. A fire system / fire extinguisher, gel seat, or even a billet shift knob can add up. Will you be using the honeycomb crash panels?
  10. The vintage race folks (with money) will be on these in a flash. It would be great to be able to build up twincam out of new parts.
  11. Are you offering the assistance of your monkey?
  12. I'm going to the dark side and trying to turn it into a concours car.
  13. Pretty simple actually. Check out stripper built canoes.
  14. Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming. What is MMO? This engine is weird (i.e., older than any that I have experience) having poured bearings and no valve adjustment. I believe the design is early pre-war.
  15. Thems dangerous
  16. This weekend I picked up a new old engine for our 7. It is an ancient 1172cc side valve (flat head) Ford. It is very complete having everything except the starter; including that curious mix of grease and rust that seems to attach itself to English machines. It seems to have been sitting in a shed of some kind so there are only some leaves, stick... in the various passages. My question is what to do to the engine now that it is in my hands. It will not go to an engine builder until I have a rebuilt transmission in hand and have saved up some money. This is at least a year away. I think that I should hose it down with penetrating oil, remove the generator, manifolds and spark plugs then clean up what I can get to with a wire brush and rag. Much will be replaced with performance parts e.g., head, side cover probably the pistons and rods. What should I mess with and what should I leave alone? Additionally, I am looking for a starter, a manifold to fit some S.U. H1 carberators and a header for this engine.
  17. Attending LOG 28 and getting to drive the track convinced me that I want to go to the Indy 500. I hope that next year we can do it. It would be great to hook up with a bunch of Se7en and Lotus folks.
  18. You look evil and your friend looks happy. Is the picture pre or post ride. I would bet pre.
  19. Wow. I expected the first rider to have a broken neck after hitting the barrier. Lucy there were no major injuries.
  20. Someone having some fun http://killboy.blogspot.com/2011/05/street-legal-gokart.html Something that looks vaguely Se7en but missing a wheel http://killboy.blogspot.com/2011/05/new-model-looks-great-though.html
  21. Tell us more. I am particularly interested in the neat hose routing and the steering column. Also where did those funky switches, engine mounts come from?
  22. Glad you are OK and the Se7en will live another day. I hope they charge him with reckless driving.

  24. I installed a suction cup rear view mirror at the top of the windscreen and took a ride today. Much better view, much safer. I'm still looking for a vintage mirror thought.
