My Locost was originally titled in AZ as a 1957 Lotus. I just went to a local DVM and transferred the title, no problems at all. Maybe because I did not change the original title, I just transferred it. Graham

Kitcat, have you just tried a machinist that specializes in Diffs and Transmissions. We have a guy west of Chicago (Paw Paw IL) that is amazing, no matter how bizarre the request he can pull it off. We also have a large local Merkur XR4TI presence. Those guys are swapping to larger Ford diffs, Surpa Diffs, even Porsche 930 drive shafts, no problem for Roy. If you have seen the American Pickers TV show, his place looks like that but all car related. Old school machine shop. If you want I will PM you with a phone number. Graham

Miatacarpc, there are a couple of Locosts out in the Western Burbs, we have done a couple of AutoX's this year and I have done a couple of track days out at Autobahn. What is the date of the Supercar Saturday and I will see if I can make it. Graham http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/fastgxc/CAM00135_zpsb1cba377.jpg

I had an Innovate LC1 on my Turbo Miata feeding a Magasquirt and a gauge. I now have a MTX-L in a Triumph TR8. The LC1 has a separate box that you connect the gauge and Megasquirt to. The MTX-L everything is on the gauge. I used it on my Triumph to tune a Holley and a Edlebrock carb, you can setup cruise, part throttle, full throttle and accelerator pump settings. Both carbs came jetted for my motor, what a joke they were not even close. But after tuning they both ran even better than the delivered setting. The gauges are damped, if they displayed real time it would be a blur. A very accurate and useful tool. Graham

Blaine, why would you not use it for tuning? It's an invaluable tool, it you just going to use it as a pretty flashing light I think your wasting your money. Graham

I will take the 7 grill, send me a PayPal account and I will send you the money. Graham -
lancylad, that is good news, I am sure they can provide you the parts necessary to be successful. Graham

lancylad, do you know anyone that has put Kawasaki zx900r carbs on your engine? The problem is that using carbs made for a specific bike there is not a full range of jets available, and these are more complicated because they are CV carbs. There will be a few "jet kits" available, so maybe you will get lucky. BusaNostra used FCR slide carbs, they are actually sold in there own right so you can get all the jets and slides and emulsification tubes ...... I have tried putting different carbs on a different motorcycle and have never been happy with the results. Your trying to install them on a very different engine. But you can never tell they might work great. Graham

"Did you get rid of the nasty perf cover? " I thought you were talking about my 7 for a second:) But your right I do not have the cover on my amps so you can see the great details. Friends are always amused that when you switch them off they continue to play for about 10 seconds before slowly fading away. The Dynaco A25's are considered a yardstick for vintage speakers, just about every vintage stereo nut has owned at least one set. I also have a pair of vintage Polk 5JR, another great old speaker. Graham

I run a Knight KG-240 and a set of Wharfedale 10.1's in my office, and a Modified new production Dynaco ST35 with a matching pre-amp, and a set of Dynaco A-25 speakers in my family room. Both setups sound way better than people think that should. Graham Chicago

Megabusa catastrophic engine failurere
fastg replied to dinanminicooper's topic in Bike Engined Sevens
DMC, as for your comment about oiling causing a bolt to fail, not directly, but did the bearing spin, is the crank flexing, are any of the other bearing showing stress. How do the other rod bolts look. Do you datalog the car? if so does that show anything? It sounds like you have a good oiling setup, and that is a must for a BEC. get in touch when your doing your research and I will put you in tough with Brian. Graham -

What sort of oiling/sump setup are you using? Get someone with experience to check the engine out and look for a reason, maybe you have an oiling problem. A slipper clutch would take the strain off the downshifts. Find someone that has built a LOT of high power 'busa motors and talk to them. I can put you in touch with a motorcycle shop that has built 100's, and a lot of high power turbo bikes. Graham -
I have used James Randolph at http://www.crossovertransport.com . Very helpful and efficient. I have used them twice. once to get a vehicle from Ohio and the other Florida. They were actually recommended to me by the original owner of my 7. Graham

Don't under estimate the motorcycle mufflers. The companies spend a fortune on R&D. They are in a highly competitive market where a few HP counts, performance and dyno numbers plastered in every magazine and web site days after being releases. Yet the bikes meet every sound regulation around the world, with the muffler just sitting there is full view. The high end race systems that have ear bleeding sound levels often only pick up 8hp on a 150hp bike. The volume of air they can handle is large, the modern sport bike at 16k is pushing a lot of air. You can often pick the stock ones up for next to nothing. I would have one on mine but the header is to close to the bodywork, so I went for a Hushpower.

I have a 1990 1.6 with 55K miles that I have owned for 3 years. I added a turbo and the usual suspension upgrades and braces. But not it's being prepped for sale, so I have taken off all the cool parts. I still have the car, turbo, and Megasquirt setup for sale. It is a great car to own and work on and with the massive parts and accessories available you can mod them on the cheap. The CMC that replaced it is you guessed it Miata powered. Graham Chicago

This car has been up for sale since the middle of last year. I think I looked into this car. I liked the car but it's still registered as a 1985 Toyota Corolla. I think that would lead to all sorts of issues with insurance and the like so I passed on the deal. Graham

I had an early Copper S, supercharged car. Just loved it, truly hated to sell it. I was working at a dealership so they gave me a car to use, it did not make sense to make a car payment when your driving somone elses car. I did the small supercharger pullley and re-programmed ECU. it was just the most fun ever. I replaced the run flats and carried a spare. You could drive it so hard and never get in real trouble. I have a local double 90 degree bend close to the house. I used to ask passengers how fast do you think? Most would say 35-40, how about 65 would be my reply. I still cannot make it that fast in the 7. I am really thinking of getting another one. Graham

GBOLT, where was this? There is a group trying to start one in Wheaton at a Dunkin Donuts. Graham

I have a buddy that is a XR4TI fan and he deals with Merkur Midwest a lot, Jeff is the guys name I think, nice guy to deal with. You should have no problems. Graham

I think the total weight penalty was 50 pounds. But that was just talking about the Miatabusa setup compared to a stock Hayabusa engine. Once you add the reverse box and mount, 2 drive shafts that 50 pounds gets reduced even further. So the disadvantage might be 25 pounds. The advantages are: no weak dog box not designed for a car, real clutch, reverse gear stock, the engine will mount to the right and the header will exit to the right useful on left hand drive cars. If I see some real progress on the setup it will be top of my list to replace the Miata engine I currently use. Graham
-
Reason, why do you believe the MiataBusa setup will not be successful? Graham
-
Alaskossie, your guess is correct, A lot of older HD riders are having hearing problems. But don't forget a lot of HD's are just for status and do not get ridden a lot. But the ones that have clocked a lot of miles with the open pipes are suffering serious hearing loss. I have a Miata and I find a ringing in the ears after a top down drive. So I were ear plugs all the time. Graham

I can highly recommend these. http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.html You can get them form Amazon for $10 http://tinyurl.com/4h9h6al I used some last year, they just make everything quieter, there is no muffling, you can talk and hold a conversation with them in, listen to the radio, they just make everything quieter. The only issue I can see is that they do stick out of your ear a little bit, so they might not work under a crash helmet. Graham

The 1.6 is a very rugged engine, many think it’s stronger than the 1.8. With upgraded engine management 12-14 pounds boost is safe with a good tune. 6-7 pounds is just about all you can do running stock injectors. Going from stock ECU with bandaids to a custom ECU makes an amazing difference. With bandaids it's a big compromise, never quite right. There is a lot of engineering in a supercharger setup, so if the mileage is low $1400 is not a bad deal. Graham

I think the 3/4" pipe is rated at 450psi so pressure should not be an issue. I have since found many people that have been doing it for years. My local hardware store knew exactly what I needed as he had been asked about it before. So I have no problems with doing it again or recommending it to anyone. Cheap simple and very quick to implement. I have modified my setup a couple of time because I moved the compressor, luckly I had some extra pipe left over to it took 1/2 hour to cut, add a T and run a new pipe. Graham
