Looking for a new Track Day Group has anyone had interaction with Auto Interests
fastg replied to fastg's topic in Roadracing
I have been trading emails with one of the local PCA Riesentoter group that use Summit Point, they have a 3 day even in early April using 2 of the tracks. I have been emailing the member ship since last September. They opened registration at 9am Feb 1. So I registered, on Feb 5 I got an email saying my registration has been cancelled because "the front fenders must be firmly attached to the body of the car". Anyone got any clam-shells I can use:) Graham -
The most common use of Inconel is turbo mounting bolts, it has crazy heat properties and turbo mounting bolts live in a very inhospitable place. I have user then on a couple of turbo cars with success. I think in the F1 world they 3D print exhaust system using it. https://www.extreme-bolt.com/products-inconel-bolts.html Graham

I have 4 things on my winter list, apart from normal maintenence. My first planned outing is early April at Summit Point. 1. Full roll cage DONE 2. Swap fuel tank setup, after three changes to the fueling system using just a Aluminum box tank I gave up, I was never able to get rid of the occasional stutter, As I want to give the power a big boost (next winters project) this was not exceptable. So after tanking to Dan Lipperini I went for a twin tank setup, 2 4 gallon tanks. DONE 3. Remove the pedal box and add a brake light switch, I do not trust the hydraulic pressure switch I am currently using. They are know to be unreliable and it's in a real tricky place should it need replacing, plus you have to bleed the rear brake so it's not a quick swap. STARTED 4. Modify inlet manifold to stop it being water cooled, part of an ongoing project to lower inlet air temps. All parts on hand.

Dan took me for a drive along the hill climb course, I think his phrase was "it gets a little light here":) Graham

Don't forget Dan Lipperini Jr , he did my cage and did an amazing job Graham http://locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20387&p http://www.RaceLabz.com

Just to use quality parts, Moog is a good brand. Graham

I would watch out for the upper ball joint on the upper control arm, it's a very poor design the upper ball joints are not supposed to take that much load. The car I checked out in PA it was pointed out to me that they were bent. So check them out and replace them if in doubt with good quality units. Graham

I would use Oetiker clamps, constant tension, does not damage the hose. I use them on any hose I will not be removing as part of routine maintenance. Pegasus sell then as do McMaster Carr. [h=1]https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productselection.asp?Product=3295[/h] Graham

I was not going to post until the roll bar was powder coated and finally installed but as a roll bar post was started. Dan Lipperini of www.racelabz.com user name w650gb500, did an amazing job on my custom cage, exactly what I was looking for. New Birkin representative for eastern USA

eastern USA, there is Michigan? I am confused:) But never the less good luck. Graham -
I think Croc is right, the R888R has a stiffer sidewall than the R888. I will check my log tomorrow, but I think I ended up with 22/24. I looked at the Avon tires but the sizes were not good for 15" wheels and they are expensive almost double the R888R cost. I am keeping with the R888R for next year then I think the Hoosiers will be on my shopping list for 2020 Graham

I do use the R888R but in the 15" size. I had R888's before and also liked them a lot, I replaced them with R888R and at first had a lot of tire pressure issues. I used a tire pyrometer to get the "right" pressure and ended up with crazy low 12/14 psi pressures. I was at a track day at Mid-Ohio and talked to Johnny Miller long time Trans-Am racer and now owner of https://trackdaytire.com/ He did a 15 minute Tires 101 presentation after the last track session, very informative. I asked him to wonder over to my car when he had a chance and after a brief chat he just said adds an extra 10psi and you should be good. He was right they are now back to shit to a blanket grip level. I love the tires, have heard storied about there wet weather performance and I have driven them in the driving rain, with no issues, but I was very careful. They last well enough I replace them every 3 years or there about, just because I can rather then any performance issues. Graham

Beware the VVT Miata engine is very tall, the VVT unit site on the top of the cam cover increasing the engine height by about 2 inches. I am not sure what Megasquirt you have but some cannot control the VVT unit so you might be able to just remove it. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/312024101490-0-1/s-l1000.jpg

I used a pair of folding leg saw horses set on the lowest setting. rated at 1200 pounds. Worked perfectly on the lowest setting it was just at the right height for working on. The 2.3 was called the Lima. a 2.3 single overhead can 4 cylinder available in NA and Turbo form. The Turbo was fitted in Turbo Coupes, Mustang SVO and Merkur XR4ti. In NA form they put out 89 bhp, that is factory quoted crank bhp!!! I believe there was a twin plug motor that put out a whopping 105 bhp. I have played a lot with these engines in the turbo form a friend did a full restoration on an XR4ti. Even in turbo form a boat anchor is the fitting end for one of these. Graham

The wiring looks fine, I like the engine management wiring to be totally separate with it's own power feed, this looks good, the Megasquirt with it two relays right next door looks good to me. By the way a base MS3 wiring harness is only $85. And people playing with fuel pressure, If you engine was tuned with a specific fuel pressure and you turn it down, you ARE running lean at full throttle. So if you car has been professionally tuned don't randomly adjust the fuel pressure. Graham

We were discussing this at the NJMP even over the weekend. It's amazing what happens when you change the rules to keep bunching up the field. 1. Lap Margin – the largest margin of victory was set by Ned Jarrett, with a 14-lap advantage over Buck Baker back in the 1965 Southern 500 Graham

If all else fails, I am flying solo and I have a suite booked on the track, so if you want to share let me know. I will be arriving Friday and leaving Monday morning. Graham -
I run the R888R in 15" rims. My cold pressure setting is 10 front 12 rear. I am not truly comfortable running that low a tire pressure but it's what it likes. Graham
