  1. the sooner a date/location and expected budget for participants is established, the higher the turnout would be. if members of teh mother club were considering coming over for LOG next year, another USA meet may entice returnees even after the difficulties of Southwest 2005. food fof thought.
  2. http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/chat/ or the pacific section here.
  3. I have a drive in mind Columbus day weekend. start will be Gouldsboro, Pa and eventually finish in port jervis, NY. i would like a mid morning start. whether we meet for breakfast or early munch and the drive has been estimated at 2:30 - 3 hours by google. despite is length, there are not that many road changes. participants: 1. Box (jon) 2. yellowss (tom
  4. looks good to me. i'll start a thread and see who else is able to come.
  5. those are my intentions at the moment. as it stands now. to chicagp or north indiana in one day. get a hotdog and some pizza in chicago. Yes, i will do this. and then go in smaller chunks till i get to the destination. there are too many national parks that i never had the chance to go to, and i plan to make amends for that. and what better way then with a 7. I am actively considering a trailer. i'll have to get in touch with Loren about that and what type of hitch to consider. just looking at my North America atlas made the decision easier. SD is 2/3s the way there, so i may as well go. What i am debating, and timing of the season really does play a factor in this, is what the return trip will be. i would like to hit Grand canyon NP, but i expect national 7 meet 2009 to be in the summer, and there is no way in desert that i will go into hell in the summer. no wait, i think i have that reversed. even with the tops, and going to the bigger radiator, oil coller and possibly apollo tank i'm not sure i want to risk getting stuck in 110+ degree long hauls. figure 2009 will be a big wash for at work already. i take my vacation in one lump, come back for a week of work, and then go some hernia surgery for another couple of weeks off. edit: i'm seeing alot of good banter. eventually there will have to be, as Al like to refer back to, a "Skyline" type meeting where ideas can really get hammered out. even a conference call will suffice. there are a lot of different ideas and goals being floated in this thread and i beleive that the sie of this meet will allow many of them to be actualized.:grouphug:
  6. the big subaru forum was that way on that day as well. I had a job interview that morning, in Laurelton, which on a clear day u can see the twin towers. It was an 8:30 or 9am interview and things had not gone all surreal yet. that did not happen until the towers fell. The interview went great. Even ask the interviewer how it went and he said i did "excellent". He even said he would have normally made a call back to myself in a day or so, but he "did not know what was going to happen anymore after today." The first tower fell on my way home. there were trucks from the volunteer units on Long island still heading into the city. it wasn't till i saw it happening on TV that i could get a sense of what was happening on such scale. after the second tower fell nad they started going thru all the replays I told my family u better watch this while u can, these shots won't be seen for years. I'm sort of lucky. I'm at least 2 degrees removed from knowing anyone who was truly affected. The closest i got to the site was a week later there were some fights in either AC or Philly that i went to, and the bridges and tunnels in the NYC metro area were all running on forced carpools as of 4AM every morning and i just got in by several minutes over the Outerbridge Crossing. I then zipped back, deliberately taking the longer route so i would pass by the brooklyn and manhatten bridges so i could see the lower manhatten skyline and just get confimation that the last week had really occured. the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway stretch by the bridges has been one my favorites since i was a kid. on clear fall weekend morning its gorgeous. going north/eastbound the river and manhatten are on ur left with the rising sun reflected off them as drive in the shade on the unusually empty road that curves, dips and rises underneath the bridges. I did visit the Shanksville, Pa crash site in the Fall of 2002 when i was out for a cousin's wedding in Johnston, Pa. that site sorta got to me seeing as it was still a cratered open field. another kicker was on sept 10, 2001 i was supposed to go a yankees game. it rained that evening delaying me getting to teh stadium. the ballgame was cancelled just before i got there. i was meeting family there. after we finally were able to tracked each other down we had to replan teh evening. so we somehow decided on Nathans. THE Nathans. so off to Coney Island we go from the Bronx. I take the Westside Hwy thru Manhatten hich passes right next to teh towers. whenever i drove next to them i always rolled my window down and looked up, and this night was no different. last night i had a Met game. luckily it didn't rain out. was soaker today though. just my ramblings. not sure if its $0.02

  8. IF all goes according to plan THIS eastcoaster would be continuing on past SD after the gathering. it may be possible to set something up the following week or weekend Skip.
  9. i probably won't be able to make the 23rd as there's car show out here. 30th is a possibility unless that trns out to be a rain date here as well.
  10. I'm at bit a bit of a loss with u beleiving Mazda's is too heavy. while not the lightest, its weight is its engine and that engine is located nearly perfectly in a se7en. and his use of the GM drivetrain allows him to have easy access to brakes and wheels/tyres that can accomodate those power levels. it would be a good idea to figure out exactly what u want your se7en to be. because they can be made very light, 900 lbs with a bike engine, 1000 lbs with a NA 4 cylinder car motor, sort of 'luxerious' with their weight passing 1300 lbs. there is a whole gamut of options. But as high HP 4 cylinders tend to lose their around town drivability to an extent, thats why i wanted my 7 to be a lesser engine that cound run on piss.
  11. i like my heater. has a bitchin' 7 logo on it. also gets my legs that extra level of baked. sort of like brownig a chicken or turkey those last 20 minutes of cooking. its cooked, but its not the right shade just quite yet...
  12. why hello thar!:flag:
  13. lets no confuse Chapmanian ideals with the se7en. there were many Lotus race and 'consumer' cars that were not the 7. The Atom, while applying to minimalism ideal isn't a se7en because of the rear mid engine layout and near totally exposed cockpit. the Radical, while ultralight fails the se7en test because it lakes the outrigger front wheels. just because its not a se7en doesn't mean its desirable or an excellent vehicle.
  14. maybe they should be on the links page. start anew heading for "Press" or articles that are club or se7en related.
  15. all around Franken7. oh yeah, my hat still floating around? my car has broken down twice without it. its gotta be good luck.
  16. video looked awesome Gert.
  17. can not make the LOONY event. autox conflict.
  18. Mid atlantic Caterham is close by for u to see what they have in stock. ur budget puts u in the ballpark for a mid 90s de dion. probably will be one of the larger crossflow engines. that same money also buys u a new se7en from the other manufacturers. they are excellent cars as well where for the most part ur $$$s may go further. If u have ur heart set up an actual Caterham, then the more u put away for ur purchase, the more car u get. or the more mods u can updrade to. feel free to lurk around. a few of u may be getting together for a drive next month in the poconos if case u wish to tag along.
  19. tenetively in. sounds like i'll take a month off and go cross country. can't do 25 hours of driving in a day yet. i hope physics changes in the next 2 years!:hurray:
  20. windshield space is sort of at a premium on our se7ens, so a simple decal of the web address of the site and a suitable front page may be better solution.

  22. I saw that when i checked out my atlas before bed last night. also saw yellowstone 1 state away. and then i just kept looking and teton, and Glacier NP, i figures that just like Forrest Gump, may as well keep going. i may have to get in toucch with Loren about a trailer if this does go to fruition.
  23. too long to read. go with " sickest of the sick "
  24. Sports & Exotic Cars issue. niuce red Lancia Zagato on the cover with Caterham line on the top. pages 34-37.
  25. cut that out! i'm in. but whats in SD?
