  1. Steve is a very talented driver obviously. I tend to saw the wheel a little more as I'm not as confident. At speed, the car is very quick to turn. I do have it set up with a slight toe out up front. I tend to kid that if you want to turn you just have to turn your head the way you want to go. It's that responsive. Croc thinks it's over tired up front but I LIKE IT. Tom
  2. Yeah, that's true, but the big question is "Will PETE be there"? :seeya: Tom
  3. Karl, with 300++ hp, you don't need to slip the clutch, Just Punch it in any gear and you definitely will get wheel spin and smoke. Tom
  4. Friends don't let Friends go to NOVA. Go HAWKS!!!!:jester:
  5. You most likely have a sierra diff, case, and that year the LSD would have been the AP Surtrac. you didn't say weather you had the 5 speed or the six speed gearbox, but the usual gearing would have been either the 3.92 or the 3.62 ratios. My 2000 six speed has the 3.62. No overdrive with the six speed, so the 3.62 was more common on those. My guess if you have a 5 speed is the 3.92 ratio. LSD was an additional option. Here are a couple of threads from Blatchat that may help you. http://www.blatchat.com/t.asp?id=157229 http://www.blatchat.com/t.asp?id=105194 http://www.mycaterham.com/66828/117416.html I think this one has the best info. scroll down to the section on how to identify an LSD. Tom
  6. As for his 4 wheel off on turn 3, he said that he wasn't expecting the car to turn in so quickly, that in his BMW he has to initiate the turn and get the car to "set". He also said that with fresh tires and a little more experience he would easily get to 1:27 or better. But since it's not his car and he didn't want to have to pay for it, he drove conservatively. :svengo: Tom
  7. On Thursday this past week, at the NJMP drivers club member day, they held the first Time trial event. My friend and mechanic had suffered a flat during the first practice session and was without a spare for his 335 BMW racecar. I offered my car to him for the Time Trial event. He had never driven it on the track before. The format was a warmup lap, with a flying start for two timed laps. First lap, he did a 1:30.8 and a 1:31.5 on the second even though he went off track. Oh, should also mention that my tires had 25 heat cycles on them. After looking at the video He said he thinks the car could do a 1:27 with new tires. :driving: That's with him driving of course. He was second in class to a Porches GT3 cup car. How they determined that a 195hp Caterham should be classed with a GT3 I don't know. Tom [/url]
  8. Glad you enjoyed the day Pete. Your car sounded great on the track and the pace car driver commented to us yesterday that you guys were pushing him pretty hard, so much so that he was getting worried that he might roll the STI as he as pushing pretty hard in the turns. :jester: Ed seems very knowledgeable and it's always good to have another set of eyes looking the car over. A little more padding for support in your seat will also go a long way to making you more secure and confident in your car. Hope to see you out on the track again soon. Tom
  9. New update. Jeff and his new R500 will be driving on Sunday. we are still hopeful that we will be able to add a couple more to the list. (cough, Pete) :seeya: Just over 5 weeks to go. 10. WOW!!! Now THAT is a a work of art. Bad art. :puke: Good luck Pete. There are right now issues and Winter projects. Don't screw with something that's not a safety issue during peak driving season if you don't; have to. Obviously, safety or reliability issues take precedence. Tom
  11. Kitcat obviously hasn't seen your latest additions. Tom
  12. Well after watching that lap, 100+ more horsepower certainly makes a huge difference. Your speed on the straights are certainly alot higher than I've got. My top speed this week was only 124.8. and on the turn 6 straight, I only got to 105. It should be alot of fun when we all get together in June. Tom
  13. Karl has found the loud pedal!!!:driving: Karl, on Friday the best Ash, Dom and I did was 1:16+ Looks like you are the big dog now as Croc hasn't gone that fast yet either. Congrats! Tom
  14. Pete, NJMP's tracks are smooth, with good runoff areas. All you have to do is keep it on the blacktop. :jester: Just don't follow Croc or Kitcat as you never know when they might decide to do some Gardening. :troll: Brake on the straights not the turns and don't turn in too early and it's a pleasure to drive. Stick with Karl and me and you will have a good time. Just be sure to wave to Kitcat and Croc as you pass them on the side of the track, if you can see them thru all the dust they kick up. :jester: Tom
  15. Yep! I believe that there is a tipping point as it's not been on every order. More go fast parts Steve? Hope you haven't turned into a Carbon Tart like Croc.:boxing: Tom
  16. Glen, I hope you are putting the proceeds into your Caterham purchase fund. :seeya: Croc, this has your name all over it for the Garagemahal. Tom
  17. Dave D. If you'd like to get on the track before the June event. You can join us on May 17th for our Drivers club member day as a guest and run in the green group, which puts you behind a pace car, no passing and instructors will ride with you to help you learn the lines. Let us know and we will get you signed up. The offer is open to other local seven owners who'd like to get out on track, to experience the fun, in a safe way for the first time. Tom
  18. I think Kitcat was quoting Hp at the rear wheel, vs you quoting at the flywheel. Tom
  19. What a troll. :smash:
  20. Yes, Caterham does sell them. You just need to specify whether your car is a dedion or a live axle as they are different. There are four bolts on top that hold standard rollbar on. You will need to undo the shocks as On the FIA bar there is a bolt that goes up into the rollbar from unnderneath. It is a reduced head bolt and you need to becarful installing and removing so as not to round it off. 30 to 60 minute job, less if you are a good wrench. Tom
  21. I heard from two more potentials and have moved them into the Maybe list. Sounds like they will try to run and or spectate if they can resolve their issues. Hopefully after the May guest driver dates that Croc offered we will be able to add a few more. :hurray: DRIVING 1) Croc Registered 2) Yellowss7 Registered 3) Bluebarisax Registered 4) Kitcat Registered 5) JBH :willy_nilly: Assuming repairs are completed. 6) bball7754 Registered 7) Sabbot Registered 8) Redgoose Registered 9) Michael D (sunday?) 10) Dave D. 22. John, I don't know about the fast guys, but the wheels used by the Caterhams at NJMP range from the Stock Caterham 8 spoke, to Rial's, Kodiak's and BBS. All pricey! all light.
  23. I believe, 75mm is about the minium clearance at the sump that you should go on the street. Even then, you'll have to watch for squirrels as you may High Center on them if you hit them with the sump.:jester: The R888's are stickier, but stones get thrown up with any tire IMO. The clearance issue that I dreaded was a steep driveway entrance, either entrance or exit. I find you have to either plan your route or be very conscious of conditions. Tom
  24. Karl, the heck with keeping up with Croc, I think you can smoke him. Yesterday was a good one, Karl and I had a good time smacking around Porsches, and Corvettes all day, GT3's and ZR1's included. Felt real good. I think Karl has found the loud pedal and has gotten comfortable with turns 2,3,4 and the bowl. Once he gets locked in on turn 5, Croc will be toast. :driving: Steve, If the STIG chickens out, I'll keep you and the crossflow company. :seeya: Tom
  25. Hopefully a few more to come. Tom
