Congrats on the new addition Doug. Maybe you can bring it down to NJMP in June and join us. I think Redgoose and Blubarisax are from around your neck of the woods. Tom

Alot of Sevens on the track is an impressive sight and a alot of fun.

Karl, I was hoping that your new pictures would have been of you new chassis being uncrated. Hope they already started tearing your old one apart so that they just have to reassemble the parts on to the new one. Good luck! Tom

Welcome to the madness! A modern Caterham is very road compliant. I feel it definately rides nicer than my 911. The higher profile tires give it a much nicer ride than the low profile ones You get all the benefits of the classic look, without the lucas electrics. Definately find a couple to ride/drive. Tom

It was recommended that I should replace my 12 year old 6 point harnesses, as it could be a tech fail issue. So I orderded a nice Willans set made specifically for the Caterham and figured it would be a nice simple job. WRONG! I started on the passenger side, figuring that I have a trackday on Monday and didn't want to run into any issues. I started with the lap belts and got the first bolt out without too much trouble, replaced that side and the had the next bolt almost out when it wedged in tightly to the seat runner and after several attempts no joy. I Decided I'd just take out the whole seat assembly. Four bolts no big deal. Wrong again. No captive nuts or bolts, Arms not long enough to hold the bolt down while loosening the nut under the car. :deadhorse: Got it out and recalled during my assembly process 12 years ago, that it was a real pain installing them. Duh. Finally got the bolts undone and seat assembly comes out, belts go in Simple! Wrong again, now can't hold bolts down when reassembling. Call a neighbor over and finish the job in 3 minutes. Other side goes alot better, Just needed an extra set of hands to get er done. :dupe: I think I spent almost as much time trying to get the submarine straps adjusted properly. :svengo: Well, job's done, and I'm beat. Much more fun to drive than to wrench. Sorry, just had to vent. Tom

Wow, I didn't know there were any 21's in the US. RoverK series VVC motor. A kindred spirit to my Rover K Series VHPD. :cooldude: Tom

6 speed transmission (new) with noise in nuetral. Is this normal?
yellowss7 replied to RandyR400's topic in General Tech
Randy, did you make sure to apply preload to the bearing? You can search the BlatChat archives for this issue. I used a spring to add the tension to the clutch arm. Tom -
Sorry, Terry, you asked where the grounds were. I understand that there is a ground using the wiper motor mount. Tom
-
Wiper motor and on the block to the frame rail on right hand side.

Nah, that's just the first volume of the current tax code. :jester:

Mike, sell the Birkin and buy a Caterham.:leaving::seeya: I'm picking mine up tomorrow for a trackday on Lightning on Sunday. Tom

I just registered for the two days as well. I asked Ian to give me a heads up on the availabilty in the Intermidate run group. I know that last year, it filled up pretty quickly. So, to recap, the following are confirmed: Croc, Mike J. Kitcat, Mike M. Yellowss7, Tom G. Blubarisax, Karl J. Anyone else???

Hi Dave, I was going to revive this thread, in a week or so. I think that if we start to register in the next week or so we should be good. I'll give Ian at SCDA a ring and check in on the current signup rate for the intermediate run group. As for places to stay, the track has 20 Suites at Thunderbolt that work great. You can reserve one on line on the NJMP website. That's where a bunch of us stayed last time. There is also a new Fairfield in in Vineland that is also close to the track. I forget where Karl has stayed in the past. Karl? Tom

You must have the only 68 Spit in existance that hasn't rusted out. :jester: My first car was a 68 mklll. Great little car, Bought it in 73 and drove it for 5 years before the frame rusted through. Just be careful with the Swing Axles. They were also a weak link. Ah the memories. :driving: Good luck with your project. Tom

I have a set of the Mike Barnby wheels on my Caterham. They are really light, but as Karl mentions, they really don't like to be banged off the Curbing at the track. Nice part is they are Three piece rims and the outside and inside rims can be changed to vary the width fairly easily and those rims are not too expensive. The Magnisium centers on the other hand are Quite expensive. But really, really light. With the Avon CR500's on the rims, full of air, and in a carboard crate, I was able to pick all four up at once. GREAT NEWS Karl!!!!:hurray::hurray::hurray: I've watched that video over and over. I still can't get over how hard you hit. Great testament to the strenght of the Caterham Chassis. Tom -

:rofl::rofl::smilielol5: Karl, you are too funny. Tom -
Yeah, I got so use to You and Kitcat going off track and kicking up duststorms that I started seeing waving yellow flags everywhere I looked. :smilielol5:

This was a "Drivers Club" event. During these trackdays, in the Novice group, they limit the speed on the straights to around 85mph supposedly. There is no passing, and they allow Convertibles to run without roll bars. It is not a typical trackday Novice group. As Croc said, there are alot of pretty cars that have never been on a track before and it's a chance for their drivers to get a taste of the track experience without really risking their cars, althought it is always possible to make a mistake.:conehead: In car instructors are often provided and the pace does quicken during the sessions. It is also a good way to learn the track without getting run over. The Intermidiate and advanced run groups are pretty strong, and they do often combine them in the last session of the day which requires your head to be on a swivel as the advanced group are very competent and do not hesitate to take a pass in the braking zone. In watching that GT3, I can't believe how slowly he was taking those turns on the back side of TBolt. It almost makes me want to sell my Pcar as that was really embarrassing. Tom

After seeing the video, I guess I will invest in a HANs type device afterall. That was a pretty hard hit no matter what the speedo showed. Cold tires will bite you every time. Yesterday at NJMP, when Croc went out for the first session it was 38 degrees. Just have to take it easy, it's like a preseason game. The end score doesn't matter, just don't get hurt. Tom -

Karl, I'm glad you are ok, but I feel nauseous. When I saw that picture it tore me up. My wife heard me say "OH NO!" and came running and unfortunately, I was too slow and she saw the Picture. Now I'm getting all kinds of heat that the trackday stuff is too dangerous.:toetap05: Oh Well. Again, glad you are ok, now get it fixed!!!!:flag: Maybe the easter bunny will make a late stop and bring you more Carbon to take the sting away. :jester: Tom -
Enjoy!!! I remember picking my boxes up at customs here in Philly, 12 years ago. I give you less than an hour after arrival to be sitting in it making Vroom Vroom sounds. :smilielol5: (It takes a while to uncrate) The other bet is how many parts are missing.:deadhorse:After all these years, the factory still doesn't have a good inventory/packing process, or at least they didn't 12 years ago. Have fun, take lots of pics and Make Blat Chat your home page. The lotus7 club of GB is a Phenomenal resource for any issues you need resovled. Tom
