Pretty much, these cars are not investments, but toys to be used at will. As soon as you get a stone chip, oil drip, leaf in the interior, add mileage to it,etc and so forth, your "investment" just dropped by 20% just like any other car you buy off the showroom floor. I can clean up what is there, but then the car would be down for months, especially with our 800+ mile upcoming move to a "3 seasons" climate... A engine harness swap would only take me a day to two days to accomplish, hence my post ISO a stand alone harness solution. Since Ron Francis is only an hour or so from my place, I sent him an email asking if he wanted to take on the design and production for this ever growing market and drivetrain. Ron helped me with a one of a kind, ERA powered by a 4.6L a bunch of years ago.....We will see if he wants to or not. My idea would be to drop the car off at his place and let him poke and prod around to get a feel for it. The Birkin harness is very well laid out, so is the stock Zetec, yet I feel that it could still be dieted and cleaned up a little more.. Bill S.

John, So, inquiring minds want to know, what would charge to duplicate the stand alone ECU harness? I guess at that point it only needs power and ground, the rest being handled by the stock Birkin wiring harness if it is anything like the stand alone system I had on my last 5.0L fuel injected FFR. Thanks for the links, what I'm really looking for is a cleaned up (dieted) harness I can meld in with the stock ECU and Birkin chassis harness. Again appreciate the leads above as well. Sincerely, Bill S.

Does anyone make a stand alone engine harness for the Zetec motor? Just looking at my options for cleaning up what I have now (stock full harness) vs replacing it with something else. Thanks in advance, Bill S.

Based on my 30+ years being heavily involved with MG's TR6's, Lotus's,Morgans, Cobras, Shelbys, Mustangs, and a host of others. Some groups have a larger % of online presence than others, but the average is 5-15%. Based on the owners, buyers, and sellers of these cars that have no clue that this site existed before I pointed them here, I'd have to say that my 10% is pretty damn close vs the cars that are out there on the road today. As for buyers, let's face it, a Lotus 7 is not for everyone, and the old distributor food chain did little to properly promote the line. This is one of the reasons why Superformance won the contract to sell the Caterham line. Because they do know how to promote what they offer. Bill S.

Took the Birkin out of the garage this AM to install the sump guard I purchased from "11Budlite", clearly a standard item as everything lined right up and bolted right in. Took me all of 5 minutes.... Decided since that was done, I might as well take a test spin out and make sure everything was nice and tight. of course I lowered the tire pressures to 34psi (previous owner had them at 45-48psi) 38 miles later the car passed my inspection as well as the PA state inspection (safety, no emissions in my county). Car ran great, a little cool with the electric water pump, but I am sure as the temps get above 60, the water temps will rise as well. Did have one hiccup at a red light the car stalled (twice), but ran like champ otherwise. Will have to check on that one, along with why the heater fan was not working, but all very minor in my book. Again, a great day for a ride. Bill S.

I happened to stop in their manufacturing plant, spec's out a trailer I was thinking of purchasing, they had no problem with giving me pricing, arranging production, and having me pick it up there if I wanted. Perhaps things have changed since 2007, not sure why though. Bill S.
