Sevens Event - NJMP Drivers Club June 28-30, 2019 - Final Event Details

Registered, room, & trailer. I'm really looking forward to it!

I'm still trying to resolve some last minute tweaks for the track though.

6 point harnesses - Done.

2 degrees front camber - Done.

I'm trying to fit a set of Brooklands screens on my SV but Caterham doesn't supply the scuttles to mount the Brooklands on SV's, they only supply them for the narrower S3's so I purchased a narrower one and will try to have a section welded in to make it fit. Then mirrors...

I picked up another set of VTO wheels to mount identically sized 205/50 15 Hoosier A7's as the Direzza's that were on for the street, but although the Hoosiers are the same "size", they apparently aren't the same "dimension". The inside of the tires hit the front fender stays. I need about another 3/8" of clearance. I may try to modify the stays, or go fenderless on the front. We'll see

Nothing is easy, but we'll be there!

Thanks Graham, I think I'll try putting a spacer in the bottom mount but I'll also have to make the hole the ball joint bolts though in the fender bracket into an open slot as there's not 3/8" room left there and that's closer to where the tire hits the bracket. It looks like that might be ok as that's how the CSR brackets are anyways although they may have another mounting point as well, I'm not sure. Worst case I can just just weld it back up.

I'll be the oddball

Not registered, hotel not booked, tow vehicle pending, car still in progress.

New seatbelts came in this week with the extra 2 points, will take time to install.

Arm restraints have arrived as well.

Fuel sender gasket is still in the transport webbing somewhere.

Alignment is pending weather clearing up (should I go neg 2 degree like John B or just standard OEM specs?)

etc etc.

No not really. I am used to those having a panic realization on the first day that they have out of date belts, out of date helmet, worn bearings, etc and failed tech. Phone calls at 2pm the day before asking me to find a hotel room - oh and it has to be cheap. Trust me, after so many years doing this I have seen it all with ill prepared participants.

You have a whole month to procrastinate yet. Plenty of opportunity to improve!!!!

More like 21 days Croc, assuming it takes a travel day to get there. I am going to need all 21. My car, having just gotten a rebuilt engine, new clutch, flywheel etc., has sprung a transmission leak and likely rear diff leak. Hopefully parts will be available and are not on "back order". It could have been worse, the original diagnosis was a rear main seal problem.

I’m set for accommodations (staying at the track again), but that’s about it.

Plan is to take care of mechanicals this week. Try the new cooling arrangement again, new brake fluid, check brake pads (have an extra set front and back), figure out why Mike’s Brooklands don’t fit, install new 6 point harness. Easy, right?

The following week is for polishing. :)

I am now registered for the event and booked in at the Fairfield. As Colin intended I will again be driving my 7 from CT in convoy with Paul (wemtd) who will be trailering his Birkin. Car is mostly set but waiting for the brake light switch from Rocky Mountain to finalize. I jury rigged my broken brake light and through some Caterham voodoo the circuit decided to work when it was previously not getting 12V.

My final task is to figure out how not to get nausea. I was at the Porsche school at Barber and was getting motion sickness from the 80-90 ft of elevation change that creates a couple of nice whoop de doos around turns 3-4 and 11-14. Even with pills (and ginger) I needed to curtail running during some sessions :ack: .

Jay luckily for you NJMP is in New Jersey, No Whoop de doos. A couple of blind up hill turns, that will exercise your glutes, but Otherwise you can see where you are going, or in Kitcat's experience, where he's been. :leaving:

I may have a brake light switch in my box of spares, I'll dig it out incase yours is slow to arrive.

Or, during tech inspection: For the brake light test, just switch on the tail lights when he says step on the brake (like some people who shall remain anonymous for his own protection do).

Brilliant plan to convoy down with a guy and a trailer who can haul your car back if, God forbid, some gremlin make the return trip impossible!

Already used a version of this trick. Turns out CT requires a back up light for inspection and they failed me because George did not install it or the fog lamp when he built my car. He doesn't like the looks of them. After hooking up the back up light I learned he did not install the switch in the transmission because he said they hang up and break when installing the engine. So the solution was to hook the back up light into the fog lamp circuit. When I was at the DMV I put the lights on and when he said put it in reverse I shifted to reveres and subtly turned on the "fog lights". Back up light on, and I got a pass.

Thanks. Josh at Rocky Mountain already shipped it out, I expect it should be here by tomorrow. I was able to kluge up the broken switch to work in the meantime.

While NJ is flat I was still able to get queasy on Lightning. May have to do with being in the passenger seat of Croc's car!

Most people have more issues with motion sickness when they are being a passenger. Unusual in that yours is the other way around.

My problem is I get nauseous as a passenger and the driver. Not good on boats either! I spend hundreds of hours a year in airplanes and thankfully they don't bother me, even with the consistent chop when headed down under and turbulence in the north pacific.

Just worse when I was a passenger in your car, exacerbated by being a passenger and your ability to bring the car to much higher G loads than I can push the car. But it was fun while it lasted :)

Windscreen question:

I was trying to get my SV set up with Brooklands screens prior to the event, but I'm having trouble with that. I would rather run without my big billboard of a windscreen and am thinking of just removing it

and going Formula style. Can I run without a windscreen at all? It wouldn't be much different than an R model really, and I don't see anything in NJMP's rules preventing it.

John,

Have you considered a CF aero screen? Install is simple and straightforward.
