JohnCh
Hopefully this weekend won't be the last nice one in the area before winter fully kicks in. Assuming weather cooperates, do you have an eta for when you can take your first proper drive? -John

Will find some chances to sneak out when weather cooperates.
mdork
Well it took longer than expected but yesterday was my first real drive. Drove home from Beachman Racing and added about 80 miles over the last two days. Still a few adjustments to make but Bruce did an amazing job dialing in the suspension and happy to finally enjoy the result of all the hours in the garage. Now just need to get proper road registration and some PPF installed. Inspection appointments are near impossible so may be a while. Look forward to some PNW blats as the weather improves.
DemoDan
That's looking great and just in time for driving season! I kinda doubt that you'd be pulled over driving around on your island, the traffic cops seem pretty reasonable there. While waiting for my State Patrol appointment I got a couple 3-day trip permits at $25 each easily self-issued when ever needed for a drive out of the neighborhood before registration was completed. Looking forward to crossing paths pretty soon! https://apps.oria.wa.gov/permithandbook/permitdetail/
Croc
It looks great. I saw your Caterham in Bruce's workshop when I was there twice in February. Bruce and I used it as a model for what to do on rear lights with my build. Love the yellow roll bar. Enjoy the drive - you have a nice part of the world to be in. mdork
Thanks @DemoDan. I did a trip permit for the drive home. After getting on the freeway I had a state patrol behind me almost immediately. No license plate, no mirrors - figured he’d pull me over but after following me for a bit he pulled alongside and I got off the freeway. Mirrors are on now (of course they didn’t actually fit without modification). @CrocThanks - your car is going to be the ultimate. I love the yellow roll bar as well. Bit of an adventure to get it right. Is also a nod to the 7 that got me hooked.
UglyFast
Brilliant lil car. Just read this whole thread. Bruce is neck deep in three back and forth with the factory with my 7 at the moment. Hoping to be flying sideways in the Blue Ridge Mountains by late summer!
DemoDan
What a nice day for a drive! When's a good time to come say Hi and circle the island one of these days? I still haven't seen a brand C close-up yet and keen to compare them a bit.

Getting some paint work done this week but should have it back by weekend.
mdork
She’s got plates! Finally had my WSP inspection and managed to get her registered same day. Gonna be a fun summer. I just used command strips to mount the plate. Is that what most are doing? I’m not gonna drill the skin….

Maybe not legal, but (like you) I didn't want to drill through the skin. Then Josh Robbins with Rocky Mountain Caterham advised that he had a few brackets. See below. You may want to contact him. I had to remove and then reinstall my license plate light, but it works great.
panamericano
Note, most states also require a light for the plate. Never heard of a car getting a ticket for not having one, but on commercial vehicles it's a favorite of DOT inspectors.
mdork
I do have a light for the plate. Not sure if the bracket works with the new LED lights but looks like a cool solution. Will do some more homework - my command strip solution should work just fine.
mdork
Here’s a pic - it looks off center but that’s just the perspective from the photo. The registration stickers (not applied by me) are also crooked which makes the plate look crooked but it is in fact straight.

But FYI I have the same / new LED license plate light (but not the very cool looking other LED lights). The bracket fits fine. But if your command strip solutions works, save the money for another upgrade! Or track time.

Alex-Ks1
I'm very curious, what come in a KIT , A fully assembled frame and body panels or is it like what I had to do , make everything my self from scratch I didn't even know there was a kit order option
JohnCh
The Caterham is pretty complete. Body panels are attached to the frame, windscreen and weather gear is installed, brake and fuel lines are run, wiring harness, dash, and gauges are in place, etc. You need to install the seats, roll bar, suspension/brakes, drivetrain, cooling system, lighting, and a number of other small things Pokey's thread here is pretty thorough and has a lot of photos. You can also download the current build guide here, although it's not quite as easy as that document indicates. Just because it says to insert tab A into slot B, doesn't mean tab A actually fits into slot B, or Caterham remembered to include tab A with your shipment. Still a lot easier than rolling your own though. -John
