I should have said, new to me, but with only 2 events on it it is like new with all the nice goodies us slow riders like, and it was under 8k as Don stated. Don , in 99 I was still riding advanced, now senior advanced and intermediate, which ever my body allows, and have been riding with cota and the pnta since 1971, really enjoy the sport as I now enjoy the 7 experience.

Mike, I expect we rode together in '96. I was riding a GasGas in Amateur. A few years later I worked my way up to Nat'l Support (and local Expert) but I've found I'm happier with less risk, i.e. sandbagging the Sr Intermediate class. :jester:

I'm really looking forward to the 7 experience! A 7 has been on my list for a quite a while now...

I've been lurking here for a while, but I guess that it's time to introduce myself since this box arrived from England.

My name's Mike. I live near Boston. My first car was an MGB many years ago. I've driven Miatas for the last 20 years. But I've always wanted a Seven.

Well, my '93 Miata was starting to develop rust spots around the fenders, but still had a solid engine. Westfield makes a nice kit which uses the Miata drive train, so I called Flyin Miata to order a kit and started stripping parts off of the old Miata.

Now that the box has arrived, I'm sorting through boxes of car parts which are stacked around the garage and getting ready to start assembling.

I'm really looking forward to getting it on the road and I hope to meet some of you in person.

I'm not going to do a proper build diary because I'm just mixing posts about this project into my all-purpose blog, but if you're just interested in the Westfield stuff without all of the other nonsense that ends up on the blog, then this feed should filter it correctly. And I'm sure you'll see posts from me in the tech section as I try to figure all of this out. Thanks in advance for your help & advice.

Welcome, Mike. I think you will be very pleased with the Westy. My daughter lives in Boston and my son goes to WPI so I might get to see your car some day so hurry and get ti running. Russ

Welcome Mike, and glad to see you picked the right color! It's well documented that red cars are fastest :) Are you planning to keep the engine stock or will you be exploring any upgrades?

Mine actually has a black nose and front fenders, so it won't look exactly like yours. But the red sure does look good.

Stock, initially at any rate. I'm a bit confused by the new Massachusetts kit car/replica car law, but I think it is saying that the engine needs to stay quite close to its original state. I'm sure that once I actually go through that process I'll learn a lot about what is and is not acceptable. Until then I'll content myself with learning how to set the suspension up well. There are more than enough tuning parameters available there to keep me busy for quite a while.

I am about to do a basic overhaul since the engine is out. New timing belt, clutch, etc. I'm thinking about putting in a lighter flywheel as part of that. It seems like it'd be more in keeping with the nature of this car.

I guess this is the thread for introductions. I'm here because I have a Westfield kit on order, and I'm already deep into stripping and refurbing the '97 Miata donor car. In the past I owned an Elan +2 that I did a lot of restoration work on, and professionally I worked for the company that turned an Esprit body shell into a wetsub for the James Bond Movie. I arrived after that project was done, but I did a bit of work on following Bond movie subs, and I became good friends with the folks who did the Lotus work. The lead engineer on that project drove a Europa Series 1.

Back to more relevant stuff. I paid my deposit for the Westfield in August, and ship date was supposed to have been last week. I don't have confirmation from Flyin' Miata that it has in fact shipped. This puts me a bit behind MPG in schedule. Mine is also red with black cycle fenders. I'm living in the CA desert now, but the company I work for is relocating to West TX, so I will most likely be registering it there.

Welcome Dan,

This part takes some patience. I ordered my at the beginning of June, and it finally arrived in late October. Part of the delay was back ups at the factory, and part was waiting for room on a ship going to Boston.

It will get there soon though, and I'm sure you've got plenty to keep you busy stripping the donor.

The move to TX might make the project a bit easier in the end. I understand that CA is one of the more challenging states (as is my home state).

Is there anyone on this forum who has a streetable Westfield and lives in So Cal, Arizona, Nevada, or West Texas (I go there on business) and who is willing to talk in private? I bought my kit without ever having driven one. I visited the factory last February but there was too much snow and ice for me to even ask about a drive. Then made the 800 mile trek to visit the US source for Mazda donor Westies in August. That's Flyin' Miata in Colorado and they have one there to drive. But it lost oil pressure a few hours before I got there. :( Flyin' Miata has a customer list but is hesitant to share confidential owner information and I respect that.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi All

Hello from Wales - UK

A true coincidence that I have come across your forum and that one of the busiest topics is the Handling thread.

I'll make no bones about it I have joined the forum for the obvious marketing benefits it could give me. However I won't "sell" anything and I will always give you my honest opinion based on my experiences not on what I may or may not sell.

I'd like to make some new friends here also.

I hope one or 2 of you have heard of my business and that I can be of some help and information.

Me

I have owned a 7 since 93. The first a live axle crossflow. In 1998 I purchased a Clubsport 1.8K with 6 speed box and in 2001/2002 built my current car (well sort of - it was an R400 at that point).

I have been Sprinting (Autocross to you guys) and hill climbing since 2002. I was the L7C Competition Sec for 6 years (Stepped down this year) and have a few FTD and competition wins to my name.

The R400 soon became more competition orientated and had an Elite sequential box, paddle shift and Ohlins 2 way race dampers fitted in 2005.

I had a "big one" at the end of 2008 season having already won my class and Overall speed championship hitting a tree at over 87mph. Climbed out unscathed and rebuilt the car over the winter on a new chassis.

In 2011/12 I converted the car to a Hayabusa7 with 1400cc engine.

Meteor Motorsport grew from my interest in the 7 and more particularly its handling. I raced MotoX as a kid and understood bump and rebound. I think this helps a lot. So as I seemed to have a well sorted car people asked advice - I would guide them toward a suspension supplier and so on - then I started to sell the dampers on set ups I specified.

Now Meteor sells most of the aftermarket suspension to the 7 community in the UK. I found your site as I have been gaining more and more customers for your part of the world and thought I would introduce myself here.

So if you have any questions I will try and answer.

Hi

Just a short intro.

I am on my 2nd Caterham - initially a 150bhp VVC SV, which I had for 4 years and my current CSR 260, which I have had for the last 6 years.

I use the car mainly for touring, with my wife, but also for trackdays and sprinting (wife stays at home).

I am also a moderator on the CSR forum, csr.informe.com, which is where TurboWood made the suggestion that we would be welcome on this site!

Another UK / BlatChat member saying Hi!

Purchased an ex-Academy Caterham back in 2007. Sold it last summer and, somehow (against expectations), within 2 weeks I'd purchased an SV Caterham (1.8 k series).

Joined here following on from this post - http://blatchat.com/t.asp?id=239317

Will be trawling the threads for more info on new / second hand purchase of a Caterham (or maybe even a Westie) - and maybe even posting up a few questions. Already been warned that a newbuild might be problematic if I'm based in Boston / MA.
