Ian7
If you're "windshield-less" and not wearing a full face, I'd have to say that the odds are you'll take a big one some day...
jbanker
I run with Brooklands a lot and I wear prescription glasses. In addition I will wear ski goggles if it is chilly or over the glasses safety glasses on normal days or full face helmet when it is really chilly. You do get some funny looks with the helmet deal. Sean
If you're "windshield-less" and not wearing a full face, I'd have to say that the odds are you'll take a big one some day... No doubt it would not be fun if that were to happen, but in my thirty years of driving, I have never had a "big one" hit the windshield or grille of any car while I was driving it. Of course, in a Seven, even once could prove catastrophic!
slngsht
If I'm just cruising around the neighborhood, just me wraparound sunglasses. On the highway, mostly a bike helmet On backroads with no traffic, back to sunglasses, and a headphone.
slomove
.... in my thirty years of driving, I have never had a "big one" hit the windshield or grille of any car while I was driving it.... Last summer I had a large pebble or something smash into the windshield of my Seven, probably hurled by an oncoming truck. That made a nice star crack on the outside layer and a quarter sized shell crack on the inside layer of the laminated glass. I don't think sunglasses would have held up. Would not have been fun to catch it with the forehead, either.... How about a paintball mask and goggles? :jester: http://www.saspaintball.co.uk/img/paintball-masks.jpg Gert

bsimon
Although I have a windscreen, my eyes tend to tear up rather easily. For the most part, a set of Oakley M-frame Heaters works nicely. In a crosswind I needed better coverage. I wouldn't recommend Oakleys for cars with no windscreen as they are simply full coverage sunnies, and probably can't stop a heavy projectile one might encounter on the road. The Wiley SG1s are a good choice in eyewear if they fit your face. Much to my dismay, I discovered that if you have slightly bulging eyeballs, they can actually touch the surface of the lenses. Like the Oakley's, they really won't stop much in the way of road flotsam coming your way. I ended up with Wiley CQC tactical goggles. You can fit them with bows if a goggle strap is not to your liking. Since they are a real goggle, there is a modicum of reasonable protection against heavy flying objects. scannon
Bobster has a large selection of goggles, most of which can be ordered with Rx lenses, even in bifocal for us old farts. I tried on a pair a friend was using and they seemed comfortable but I don't know which of those on the website he has. Skip

southwind25
Now here's the dilema.. personally i think having a set of good goggles and even the leather (or a canvas) helmet is way cool.. and deffinitly the goggles are practical. The 7 is a rather open car windshield or not! BUT...Mary thinks it would look just way to "goofy" to wear such driving around...sigh. How can i convince her that this isnt a problem of bad fashion? i dont think cheap sunglasses are going to do the trick here on dusty summer days. OH,,,FWIW, i found PUMA brand shoes makes an indoor soccer shoe that would be perfect for driving! while not nomex they are built perfect and VERY resonably priced. (She let me get a pair of these!) Al N.
Even with a full windshield, I use MOTORCYCLE helmet on highway to minimize wind wear & tear on my face/ears. However, I've found that I've gotten acclimated to driving seven around town without even glasses...no more tearing up.... For passengers, I have some wiley-esque shatterproofs that I got at a motorcycle store...
stevet
I know a lot of the UK guys wear Wiley's (as suggested by Brad). I have a rather old fashioned pair of aviator goggles - probably not your look, Al...

powderbrake
Having just the brooklands screens, and since I wear prescription glasses, I ALWAYS wear "Over The Glasses" style Motocross goggles. Motocross goggles are designed to provide all the features you need in a Seven. Full covrage, impact resistance, adequate airflow to prevent fogging, easily interchangeable lenses, tinted lenses, and they are reasonable priced, about $35. Scott OTG glasses For colder or rainy weather, the leather "snoopy" cap is perfect, and you can wear it over a baseball cap to provide some shade for the eyes. Available here for $17. snoopy cap I keep a spare set of goggles and a cap for the passenger in the car. You only have one set of eyes...... protect them!!!
