Croc’s new CSR Superlight

When I spotted Karl's car at my local gas station, I could have sworn the car had a full cage...I think it was the height of the rear bar that threw me.

I'll try to stop by the June 12 run, but I know I have some church obligations that AM...maybe I could join for lunch or end of day meal/drinks?

Do you know where that pic of the two Sevens and the yellow Elise was taken? Looks an awful lot like the road my in-laws live on in Bucks County (not too far from Tinicum Park).

An update on "Bessie" (please let that name not stick!): the headers and exhaust just shipped from Jet Hot. I have always liked the look of the Series 2 1/2 in the Chris Rees' "Magnificent Seven" book...a dark car with a light painted exhaust/header set up.

What's wrong Al sweetie? You dont like my self-chosen name? Personally I love the name "Bessie"! Just suits my always assertive attitude with the odd misfire!

I love my new color - its so nice to be all shiny and glossy again! I now have better skin than you! Not bad for a over-40 year old cougar! :p

Bessie, maybe you can get some new pix of your fresh paint job posted? I think Ben was going to send me some, but I haven't gotten any yet.

Al - you would be more than welcome to turn up at the after event just in time to participate (or maybe judge) in the tall tales telling contest of the drive. We will probably end up at the Ship Inn.

The road picture was on the PA side but up north near the Riegelsville bridge as soon after that picture we crossed the river to the NJ side on the bridge there. The drive did initially take us past Tinicum Park as we followed Rt 32 south to that sharp hairpin right handed on to Cafferty Road but after that it was all heading north.

Taken yesterday in my backyard. Will try again as the silver is difficult to photograph well in sunlight. I guess Miss Liberty does not like sevens - she is turning her back on me:

  • 4 months later...

Well I have been busy putting some modifications on the car:

1) New carbon chin spoiler. This comes with the CSR kit as is part of the aero downforce package. Personally, I just think they are so nice to give it a double chin look that matches me!

2) New oil temp sensor. The car always ran oil temps too high for my liking around 110-120 on highway runs at 80mph or on track. This was despite having the a modine-type cooler. A lot of this was due to heat soak around the original sensor location at the filter. The sump plug was tapped with a sensor to get a true read on oil temps. On a nice high speed run today for an hour the oil temps now show a very steady 95-100 degrees. Much better.

3) A nice shiny oil catch tank to replace the plastic washer bottle kit solution that dripped oil into the pedal box. No more oily feet!

4) A diff oil catch tank. Should stop the dripping that happened on the last track day.

5) New brake hoses to replace the fautly ones.

6) Finally fitted the Reverie carbon cam cover.

7) Fitted the carbon aeroscreen instead of the windscreen.

8) Carbon block tail lights

9) A supercharger (where's Karl? :jester:)

and

10) A Reverie carbon diffuser. This turned into a major ordeal instead of the bolt on solution that it was initially presented as. Caterham supplied the CSR drawings to Reverie who then developed a diffuser kit. However, the drawings were incomplete and Reverie did not allow for the independent rear suspension to deflect under load. So the angle grinder came out to cut out the suspension holes. I then used some thin ali to finish off fairing in the chassis underneath. The CSR is not like the other Caterhams as a lot of the chassis underneath is already faired in. This should make it cleaner when I go off track excursions next time!

Also the standard reversing light and rear fog light from a Caterham were removed and the bright LED solution from Car Builder Solutions were mounted on the back of the car. Far smaller profile and look nicer.

It is a Moroso tank that needed to have a segment cut out and rewelded as it was too high. It was surprisingly difficult to find a catch tank that was low enough height and fit the space. I looked at a lot of designs but all were too large for the space in some way.

Croc, you Carbon Tart!!! Glad you got the brake lines sorted. Can't wait to see it with all the new additions.

Keep the NJMP date open, Hopefully we'll get some weather just like this!

I'm headed over to NJMP tomorrow for another session on Lightning.

Tom,

Is this members only time or is it with a group? How late in the Fall do they have evennts at NJMP? I missed NASA atVIR this weekend and will miss NASA SP in November for work. I may need a fix before I put the car away for the winter.

Hi Michael. Tomorrow is a members day. There is a group running on Thurday, Oct. 20th on Thunderbolt that I am hoping to do, weather permitting. They are also running an East Coast Lotus cup event as part of the day, so you can be timed and compete in the Lotus cup event too as they accept Caterhams as part of the family. Here's the info on the event.
