MightyMike
I actually think this is pretty neat ! I agree; it's an interesting idea. I'm not sure why the builder only opted to put in a V6.
Croc
Makes me wonder what the reserve was or how close it got to it. I would say that 40K is very close to the price ceiling that car would see. Yes I have to admit I am baffled. Take all the noise away and at its core it is a Caterham classic with a zetec and not many options other than pretty seats and an LSD. Its only claim to a high price is that someone once put $130k (or was it $150k) labor into it to add lots of little bespoke touches that quite frankly do not increase resale value much but maybe do increase emotional desire. Take that headline labor cost fact away and it would be unlikely to get much over $30k - maybe $35k - in the regular classifieds on Ebay or Craigslist. Once you are in the $40s price region then you are getting up to some serious alternative offerings of higher spec/more recent Caterhams. I was at the factory on Monday and a few of the guys there were following the auction and were similarly astounded that someone spent that much on a build. Ultimately the seller and the market will meet - seller can afford to hold out until the market lifts back up to their level. Likely in 2019 when GBP starts its recovery from its Brexit malaise (or maybe not if there is a disorganized exit)and the new Caterham market prices lift again restored the used car 'market.' Oh and while I think of it Vovchandr, call Roger Krause for your 13 inch tire problem. They sourced the Avon ZZS on my maroon caterham I sold earlier this year and they also had the Avon ZVS as an alternative 13" road tire option for the Caterham. They deliver to you from the west coast. Now 14 inch wheel/tire combos are more challenging! Edited December 5, 2018 by Croc

I was surprised to see reserve over $30k as it didn't seem like the owner was hard out for money and he just wanted to let go of the car to make room in the collection. Thats far too much money to put into it and not drive it, and yet keep it. I paid considerably less for my Zetec and it came with extra goodies and its an SLR. To each his own though. I also wouldn't own 150 cars. My 13in problem got resolved with some 888r's that I managed to source. Still debating on ordering another set and holding on to it so I don't run into another sourcing problem 5 years down the road. Not the ideal tire but it does in a pinch. I still have way less than 1000 miles under my belt with the car I got earlier this year. It came with original tires to begin with from 2001, wasn't going to push those very hard. FE07
Old school restorations or recreations?? Maybe there's a couple pieces of original 7 frame in these 2 cars but doesn't appear to be much else. Not sure who designed the IRS. Interesting but certainly not original. Have never seen a 7 with track rods like this in the rear. Looks like the combination of the rear end from a Lotus formula car 18/21/22??? with rubber donuts with a significantly modified old 7 frame. Interesting but don't call it a Lotus if it's not. Love the Mallock and looks like a good buy for a fun vintage racer. Jim A.
Croc
I don't remember seeing this on Croc's list. First two links are the same and are a Craigslist ad link for many many weeks. Not sure there is much left of the original chassis as Jim points out but it does have some pedigree if you refer the linked article http://www.simplesevens.org/0300/0300.htm The Mallock is one I had not seen. Steve M on this forum has a beautiful shiny one - goes really well too. Edited December 8, 2018 by Croc

Croc
Hi PanAmericano - While that Caterham CSR "restyle" has been discussed on this forum once when I first saw it, I do not list it now as 1) its in Switzerland and 2) it cannot be imported unless Federalized - that means crash testing, air bags, etc. That said I give them credit for trying to modernise the classic seven for something a little different. I do regularly exclude a variety of ads from this list for: 1) overseas and not able to be imported 2) really sketchy sellers (the so-so ones I let come through with a note e.g. this week - googling them is always a good idea) 3) car dealers who decided to get ugly with me once 4) those that I genuinely miss because they are on a different website to where I systematically look I think I get 95% of what is genuinely for sale out there and list 90% - its not perfect but it is a good starting point. cheers mike Edited December 9, 2018 by Croc
panamericano
Mike, The list is excellent. I just keep trying to find one you missed. Probably any I see would fall into your screened-out group. The greenhouse on the Swiss car reminded me of something from late 1930s Europe. The front not so much. Lots of advantages to a coupe though. Keep up the good work. JohnCh
I don't recall seeing either of these cars in previous posts. They are offered by a Seattle shop that imports cars from Japan. The Caterham is RHD with a 1600 Crossflow and the Fejer is LHD with a 2L Toyota mill. No idea on condition, but pricing seems very reasonable. Croc
John - They were on before. They were ebay ads but I did not link to Sodo Moto the principal seller. They import out of the Japan market - hence the right hand drive for the Caterham. I cannot find the actual post as our search engine only extracts the threads and not the individual posts so I cannot locate it within the 182 page thread. Are you shopping for another car? Have you fully restored your Elan yet? Edited December 16, 2018 by Croc
JohnCh
I should have known better than to think you missed one, let alone two cars :banghead: Fortunately the Elan doesn't need a restoration; just dry weather so I can enjoy it. Upgrades though are another story. I recently swapped out the crappy M&S tires for a set of Michelin XAS FF in the correct size (BIG difference!) and a larger, hollow front ARB just arrived from the UK. I suppose the next step is an LS swap :jester: -John

Croc
Hi Adam - welcome. I suggest you try Dave Bean for the crossflow sump. http://davebean.com/catalog.htm As for selling - always post lots of pics on this forum and the aspirational buyers will lap them up. If you want a non-historic 60s seven then you will be likely on this forum looking at the for sale ads. Failing that then a national platform like Ebay or Hemmings. These cars are seeking a particular type of buyer - marketing reach needs to be as geographically broad as possible or tightly focused to the niche audience. Pricing feels about right on both. Fejer is unknown in the US and probably discounted as a result but I think they are a good build. RHD is always a tough sell to some but price will fix that. I will avoid your website - it has many nice offerings that I need to avoid being tempted by! Cheers mike Edited December 17, 2018 by Croc
Croc
Despite only one person missing me, I am back posting this. Usual rules apply this year - I have no interest in these cars. Posting as a favor to save you looking. There may be other cars for sale out there. Do your homework before you buy. I am not responsible for your divorce if you buy a seven from these links..... anyway the car is probably better looking, less expensive to run and does not nag you in the evenings when you grab another drink while watching football on TV!
