In case you are wondering where the instrument panel thread disappeared to, well, Dan started a new thread here to allow discussion to continue without getting chopped up by the for sale links. Here is its new location:

This week we have something interesting. Palatov D2

$_1.JPG

2014 Palatov D2 finished in Azzurro Blue over Black leather interior. Cats Exotics is excited to offer this very special and extremely rare machine! With less than a dozen known to exist, the D2 is built in Portland, Oregon, and is set up for both the track AND street driving. Featuring and built on a TIG welded chromoly tube frame, this D2 is powered by a dry sump lubricated GM LS3 6.3L V8 with motor that pushes out approximately 450hp/450tq at the crank (50 state emissions compliant). Also featuring; Quaife 6-speed sequential manual gearbox, pushrod suspension setup with Afco shocks, Willwood 4-piston disc brakes with 12.2" vented rotors (track brake pads included), Tilton brake bias controller, FIA 12 gallon fuel cell with internal pump, HP tablet data-logger dash with street & race mode displays and full temp. gauges, Xenon headlights, AGM battery, LED tail lights/turn signals, Black Enkei RPF1 wheels 18" rear - 17" front with TOYO R888 tires as well as an extra set of the same RPF1 wheels mounted with BF Goodrich R1-S track tires, marine leather wrapped interior, front end clear bra protection, Schroth 6-point harnesses, and OMP quick release steering wheel. All together, the total weight of this car is approximately 1900 pounds!

Brand new & with the options that this model has, the MSRP is between $90,000 - $95,000 with a wait time of up to 6 months. This is an opportunity to own a very special car that is sure to be the only one around, without taking the price hit and wait time of a brand new model!

*Palatov Motors has offered a free intro/orientation day at the Oregon Raceway Park to the next owner to familiarize and learn about the car in a controlled environment*

Asking $79888 which seems reasonable for the performance possibilities of embedding yourself into fellow motorists, buildings, bridges, etc. Being mid engine I would be wary of it biting me on lift off if I was driving. One thing that surprised me is how heavy it is - its as lead happy as a Stalker - which some lovable space cadet has already proved that with an LS engine you can reach take off velocity but not quite escape velocity for orbit...

As an aside I love the dealer name "Cats Exotic" Try googling that (as I did) and you will have kitty galore on your browser and none of it relevant to the dealership. Must be owned by someone who has no idea of how to succeed on the internet.

Locost build based of a Triumph 1500 that almost certainly rusted away in the 70s.

Current bid at $6955 and no reserve with 16 hours to run. May end up being a bargain locost?

Then we have the reappearance of Robin Hood. A little seen seven brand here in the US. Not finished. No title and no MCO so that is a killer for some states on getting registered.

Starting bid of $10700 with 7 days to run and no reserve.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Kit-Makes-LOTUS-SUPER-SEVEN-FROM-ROBIN-HOOD-ULTRA-LIGHT-/201430853018?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2ee636e59a&item=201430853018

Any one looking for a Panoz AIV? I have come 10 of them this morning all for sale. Not sure why so many up for sale now? Here is one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Other-Makes-Panoz-AIV-Roadster-/400995151684?forcerrptr=true&hash=item5d5d2c6f44&item=400995151684

Its not a seven but it will certainly out handle one. It also proves my theory that you could register anything for the road in Florida. Street legal "indy car".

This is a 1996 open wheel, open cockpit street legal Indy style car. Small block Chevy V-8 motor. Corvair trans-axle for the transmission. Aluminum Corvette rims with the aluminum spacers and like new tires. The car weighs 2,000 lbs. removable momo steering wheel. The brakes can be adjusted for front and rear bias. The body of the car is sheet metal with Zeus fasteners on the service panels. The whole front assembly is easily removed for servicing. The engine bay cover is also removable for servicing of the engine along with a couple more service panels.

Oh geez - and here I am worried about driving a Caterham on the road. With this bad boy you could take out an SUV sump with your head and be a speed bump to mommy on a grocery run. Perfect for all occasions. But why is it 2000 pounds? Was it made out of heavy gauge sheet steel?

Opening bid at $15000 with 4 days to run.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Kit-Makes-Indy-Street-Legal-open-cockpit-/181872462131?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2a58718933&item=181872462131

Barney the Dinosaur! The purple Westfield is back.

I quite like the color and the car. The wheels are a shocker and should be replaced ASAP. I also hate all caps ads.

Unfinished Locost 7 kit in TX for $1200

Please buy my unfinished kit car and build a Locost 7 sports car. As you can see from the pictures my garage is crowded and my wife would love for me to find a new home for this project.

As you can see by the pleading ad, the wife is withholding sex privileges until cleans out the garage. My view is that he should get rid of the wife - cheaper and the garage toys don't slap you back.

1962 Lotus 7 freshly restored - asking $44500 in FL (despite being on CA plates?). Despite that the ad features some horrific poor quality photos and even some fingers in frames. And if you can adjust to the fuzzy views I fancy I can see some Caterham parts so it looks like they cheated. Revolution wheels would not have been on a 62 car? Hard to tell as the ad photo quality is just ridiculously bad. Pity as it looks really nice overall.

Considering 4 spoke Revolutions were available in '67 and minilites in '64, I'd still consider them a period correct choice for this car. The wider rear wings look like they are needed to accommodate the width/backspace revolutions though. This car was on ebay previously (and did not meet reserve). I think it had many of these same parts, so it seems the new other just had Tony Ingram complete the project and is flipping it. I generally prefer the slimmer S2 fenders, but otherwise I remember the car looking pretty nice in the ebay ad. There's no doubt Tony finished it to a high standard. I do think the price is a bit optimistic..especially as I think it is fitted with a crossflow instead of a pre-crossflow.

Its back but the price is now down to $25500. Methinks it has further to go.

http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ctd/5223369730.html

The twin cam itself is worth quite a bit more than a crossflow, So I think this one is actually not too far off (maybe a couple grand too high). It should be pretty comparable to an early caterham and it's got some nice details like the wingard 1055 lights (Though I can't figure out why they're mounted sideways?) I suppose it depends on how much work it is to bring it to driving standards after sitting for so many years.

Hello Dingo...or is Meryl Streep?

Your comments on the Oregon Arch chassis clone are spot on. Sadly it needs work based on another forum member's message. From that I concluded it needs to come down in price to allow for the extra. Otherwise its sort of just like a Caterham without the price premium of a true S3 Lotus 7.

18 inch wheels on a seven is clearly a New York thing.

Thank you for correcting me on the revolution wheels - I had them later in my mind.

Mid Engined Locost asking $5000

***Note: this car does not and will not come with a "body"***

***Note2: this car is street legal, not track only***

I have a home built aluminum framed mid-engine car for sale. This is similar to the "Locost" Lotus 7 replicas.

It is powered by a 2009 Honda CBR1000rr 1 liter 4 cylinder motor (4400 miles on it). This motor makes somewhere around 180hp, and the car weighs less than 1200lbs. Imagine cutting the weight of a miata in half, and adding 50hp.

Speaking of Miatas, this car uses miata subframes, suspension, steering, brakes, axles, uprights, and the differential. So it handles like a miata that went on a 1000+lb diet. Also, maintenance parts are cheap and plentiful, as are upgrades.

The shocks and springs come from (4) 2009 Yamaha R1 motorcycles. They are high quality adjustable gas shocks and are also really cheap to replace.

Seats are Kirkey intermediate road racing aluminum seats, and the fuel cell is a 12 gallon RCI aluminum tank.

The roll bar is made from 1.75" DOM steel tubing and adds not only safety but stiffness to this ride.

Power goes through a combination reverse/overdrive box into the miata rear differential, so no chain maintenance on this bike engine car.

So basically with this car you're getting everything you'd ever want in a miata, plus a 13,000rpm screaming banshee of a power plant with a 6 speed sequential gearbox.

Now for the downsides:

It's not exactly "finished". Though it will be sold as a running, driving car, I have not yet installed the headlights, tail lights, blinkers, and mirrors to make it street legal.

These cars are street legal in NC, without a windshield, etc., but you still need to pass the basic safety inspection for good tires and working head/tail/brake/reverse lights.

The upsides:

I have all the lights and stuff the car needs, along with a bunch of other stuff (like a racing fire suppression system) available with the car.

The bottom line:

My wife and I are going to spend the next unknown number of years doing missions work in Guatemala. If you think this is your kind of project, make me an offer and let me know how "done" it needs to be for you to want it.

A question for the USA7s members. Another forum member has raised concerns in a polite PM to me that my conjecturing based on the advertisement and other personal impressions is unhelpful to the seller and misleading to other forum members who may be buyers. I will note that the ad in question was not a for sale ad on USA7s but one of my links to his Ebay/Craigslist ad off forum. I can sort of see his point of view as a seller. My view is the advertisement was inadequate inviting conjecture from forum members as we all tried to assess what was up for sale and the value being sought. The forum member is not a paid up club member so could not advertise directly on USA7s.

I am aware of the USA7s forum protocol on not criticizing other forum member's own for sale ads when listed on this site but this would not apply when it is a re-link from Ebay or Craigslist and the seller is not bothering with the forum.

For what it is worth, I believe that an advertisement should stand on its own with good description and photos if you expect someone to buy it on the internet through a site like Ebay. Unfortunately, most ads do not meet that standard. However, I think the Bringatrailer model works well in that situation as you get a variety of intelligent input that can make up for the advertisment inadequacies. Its why I respect other USA7s members chiming in here with their views. But am I wrong as it was pointed out to me?

So an informal survey - should we expand the current USA7s forum rule on no conjecturing or opinions to apply to re-linked ads in this thread? Or should we keep it as it is?

Keep it as is...I like a bit of 'harmless' humor with my morning coffee. Besides, if I like the car and want it, I'll buy it, regardless of your Dudee-ish tomfoolery. :jester:

I concur.

When originally looking for a seven, pointers, tips, and off hand comments in the forum were invaluable. Here too subtle observations: "the left hand widget was not made until '85 for a car advertised as oem '64..." can help others make informed decisions.

Besides, the commentary improves our morning coffee
