Croc:

Is the '99 Westfield above really a "pre-lit" se7en. I thought the litigation by Caterham v. Westfield ended in settlement in '87? And, as much as I like this yellow car (wh/is a lot), I suspect the ad is fibbing a bit. For instance, the seller claims the car weighs 900 lbs "wet". Maybe without the engine and drivetrain? Also claims the X-flow SuperSprint engine makes 160 hp. That is conceivable, but if it does, it is a very special X-flow (mine made 95 hp).

Establishing what the "market'' price of any of our se7ens is challenging. Often they sell for amounts far less than advertised and we are none the wiser. Even if the Westfield here is as nice as it appears, $30K for an X-flow powered car seems a bit rich. I like the dry-sump, the quaife (tho it mite not be easy to potter around on the streets with that transmission), and I like the weather gear and the general presentaion. Maybe it's more realistic at $24K-25K tho?

Well, if you want to split hairs, 'pre-lit' could mean many things. There was Caterham vs Birkin in 1998, Caterham vs Westfield that was resolved in Dec '87, Caterham vs Tiger in 1990, Caterham vs RM Classics in 1992, and Caterham vs Robin Hood in 1994. There is a copy of these in the book: Lotus Seven and the Independents, which also mentions Westfield suing Tiger in 1990. But none of them are after '99, so the ad seems to me to mis-state that.

On the other hand, Westfields can be identified by their different cast windshield post compared to the triangular supports on all the others. That feature started in '88 as far as I can tell, and the advertised car has the earlier supports.

I agree with the pre-lit discussion above - I used pre-lit because any other description seems wrong. It seems to be pre-lit in look but... its wrong year and it definitely does not look post-lit. So I am confused. The options that I think are most likely are 1) the year is wrong or 2) there was a production run post-lit but before the shift to fiberglass bodies that used up all the old parts - is this car one of thus lot? I think Johnch told me about these?, or 3) someone spent a lot of time and money converting a post-lit car into something resembling a pre-lit car.

I've done some research on this, but certainly not enough to be an expert. It is my understanding that, as of the agreement, Westfield's tooling was transferred to Caterham and Westfield agreed to immediately stop selling ".... cars under the name SEVEN, 7, and SUPER SEVEN or of substantially similar appearance...". Furthermore, in Caterham press release of December 1987 (of which there is a copy in the Ortenburger book (Lotus Seven and the Independents), Graham Nearn says "I am satisfied that the new Westfield SE is an independently designed car, that it will not cause confusion in the marketplace and that it will compete with the Caterham 7 on legitimate terms." The Caterham press release was signed by Chris Smith of Westfield.

Locost build utilizing some Caterham parts.

The car is a scratch built car not a Caterham, Bikin, or westfield. I do have a full photo library of the build.

It was built by a retired gentleman in Florida from 1999-2003 It is extremely solidly built. He sold it to a gentleman who raced it at road atlanta quite a bit.

I bought it a little over 2 years ago and am the 3rd owner. I drive it on the road periodically, mainly just to work and home but I have taken it to a couple shows and auto crossed it once.

I had it dyno tuned. It puts out about 130hp Toyota 4age 20v silvertop

The rear axle and front spindles are alfa romeo (limited slip rear)

Car has 16" Caterham 5 spoke wheels, and also comes with 15" caterham prisoner wheels

front fenders are caterham cycle fenders, I have a set of matching Caterham rear fenders not yet installed.

doors are Caterham SV doors. There is no top and there are no windshield wipers ( I do have all the stuff to make a top which will go with the car)

Windshield is Lexan

Has Tillet carbon fiber Caterham seats.

Caterham exhaust shield

Bushings in front suspension are poly which I installed when I bought the car.

Aldan eagle adjustable coilover shocks all the way around

Stewart Warner gauges. However speedo is a GPS based unit not a Stewart Warner gauge.

Brakes were replaced with drilled rotors and new pads. Brake fluid was drained and replaced too.

It's a great car and goes like hell. The toyota motor is indestructible. It comes with an spare T50 transmission as well

All in all a great car that will turn heads and go like hell

Flaws:

The paint on the nose and rear fenders was done by previous owner with a spray can so it doesn't look real great in person.

Aluminum on the sides could use some sanding. The car had numbers on it so the outline of the numbers can still be seen.

Bidding current at $6300 with 3 days to go.

Another Stalker for sale, this time in San Jose.

super stalker kit car from brunton automotive based in florida, this kit car is one of the quickest cars on the street and the quickest car ive ever driven. has 3.8 liter v6 super charged engine from a 98 buick regal grand sport. no smog required due to it being registered under sb100 (senate bill 100) so you can add unlimited power without worrying about smog restriction. currently has about 350 hp and weighs about 1500 lbs so if you know anything about power to weight ratio this is similar to a corvette with 800hp. on street tires it ran 0-60 time of 3.1 seconds and quarter mile of 10.8 seconds according to my g-tech accelerometer. although its more at home on road coarse racing. in my mostly stock 2005 Subaru sti I ran a 4.6 sec 0-60 time and 13.5 second quarter mile according to the same accelerometer so I have faith that its pretty accurate.

it has a chevy s10 rear end with limited slip diff, adjustable front and rear coil overs, 5 speed manual transmission and the doors were of my own creation and can easily be taken off. I didn't get a chance to finish them but if you have any experience working with fiber glass and body filler it wouldn't take too much to finish, I was going to give them a fiber glass inner structure for rigidity, a latching mechanism and body filler for a smooth finish and they will be ready for paint. or you can just take them off and leave it as a roadster. it currently will run but it has a head gasket leak cuz the coolant keeps getting low so I was going to replace the head gasket. I have the gasket set but have not changed it yet, its fine for a test ride or to drive to your home if you don't live too far, otherwise you have to keep topping off the water every so often. I'm moving over seas this year and on the fence about taking it with me so if I don't get a good price then I will take it with me.

This next one is intriguing. Custom Build in the style of an Atom.

100% custom built. Designed from the ground. You can view more pictures and videos from my website / blog about the car. Modernkitcar dot com

I did all of the design and fabrication work on this car. It was a 4 year project that was finished in the spring on 2015.

Engine: 300+ HP Turbo-charged GM Ecotec (2008 model) (no internal modifications) Engine was bought with 15,000 miles and has about 10 track days on it...Runs like a top, no oil consumption, no knocking, plenty of room to add more power. Gets new oil every other track day. The tune on the engine is dialed in perfect, fuel trims are near zero, it can run wide open throttle in 80 degree F temps all day without getting hot or pulling power. The engine features forged pistons and connecting rods, high-pressure direct-fuel injection, variable intake and exhaust timing, aluminum block, sodium-filled exhaust valves.

Trans: 5 speed manual. Can be easily converted to a 6 speed manual if desired. Has original clutch/flywheel. Transmission oil changed last summer.

Weight: Comes in around 1500 lbs. About 60% Rear weight bias, like most Porsches

Tires: Comes with Continental Race Slicks. Current tires have had about 10 track days on them I can offer to include a new set of 4 tires if price is right. Also comes with a set of street tires.

Wheels: 17" Enkei, Fenders are made, but have not been installed/mounted.

Front Brakes: Wilwood 4 Piston calipers No ABS (brake bias can be controlled with a cock-pit adjustable knob on-the-fly) (extra pads and rotors available)

Rear Brakes: OEM Pontiac Solstice Calipers w/ park brake. Rear Brakes can easily be upgraded to Wilwood Calipers for more performance. (extra pads and rotors available)

Parking Brake: Features a parking brake that is completely removeable (currently is)

Exhaust: Comes with a "street" version which has muffler and high-flow cat. Also comes with a "race" version which is straight out of the turbo.

Seating: 2 Corbeau FX1 Race seats with Scroth 6 pt harness on driver side. Passenger side has 4 pt harness currently, but can be upgraded with the purchase of a 6 pt.

Roll Bar: Safety Roll Bar is designed with the rules and guidelines of the major race organizations

Dash: Features a Google Nexus tablet that is completely configurable to display anything you want. You can check engine codes and erase codes from the dash display. It can display fuel level, RPM, Coolant Temp, Battery Voltage, Fuel Trims, Ignition Timing, Air Intake Temp, 0-60 times, Air/Fuel ratio (Wide band O2 sensor), Ground speed, GPS speed. You can also use it as a GPS navigation display. Includes push button starting. Upgrades are available for the Nexus dash if you want a more serious race-track timing setup (faster data logging/gps/etc). A backup camera can be installed that will automatically display on the dash tablet when the trans is put into reverse.

Lighting: Comes with front and rear blinkers, Rear Brake lights, Reverse backup light, Daytime running lights, Headlights are Hi-output Xenon type (5000K) with hi & low beam.

Electrical: The Engine uses the original GM ECU and has been tuned to run in the standalone application for this specific project. The majority of the engine harness wiring is untouched from the OEM. The chassis harness is contructed from high quality automotive wiring, neatly wire and encased in corrugated loop to protect it from any chaffing. The fuse box is custom made for this specific application and does allow for some additional power sources if required. The battery is a lightweight dry cell that can be disconnected with a master switch. The entire wiring diagram has been designed and is available on a pdf layout for troubleshooting. I have never had any electrical issues since the project has been completed.

Fuel: Tank is a custom aluminum tank with internal baffles, uses the OEM GM Fuel Pump assembly. Always ran the fuel at the tracks which was 110 octane. You could convert this engine easily to run on ethanol if desired for more power output.

Body: All of the body is made of fiberglass and all of the molds are available with the sale.

Frame: Combination of DOM steel tube and Chromoly Tubing where necessary. Major stressed components are chromoly and TIG welded. The frame is powder-coated a semi-glass black

Suspension: Front suspension features fully adjustable coil-over shocks with a push-rod setup. Rear suspension has fully-adjustable coil-over shocks, which are the same as the front, just different spring rates.

This isn't the average "garage" build. A lot of time and thought have gone into this project with nothing spared. The goal was to have something that looked like it came off a production line, and the average person cannot tell it was home-built. I have an engineering degree and a background working for OEM automotive companies, I like to think that I have an eye for quality and I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to this kind of stuff. This is a very fun toy and it will not disappoint.

There is much more room for improving the handling of the car, which will be dictated by the driver's driving style. The unique part is that everything is adjustable. Brake bias, Camber, caster, toe, etc. and it all is designed to be easily adjustable so changes can be made quickly. A custom string-alignment rack system comes with for dialing in the toe settings.

The car has only been operated on the race track, but as you can tell, I have incorporated a lot of the features to make it street legal if desired by the new owner. The car has never been titled.
