The S1 above is similar spec to the $100K+ supercharged Caterham so is this a bargain? Does the roll-over design make any sense? Weird gauge placement. I wonder if the front cycle fenders are too small to fit? Overall I like it a lot. I mite steal the snorkel intake design.

I'm wondering the story on the non functional, 69 Mach I hood scoop, seems a waste of space to me. Gauge set up makes me wonder if this was going to be a rally type car with an actual passenger/navigator.

Answer to question number one would be a hell yes.

#2 Yes but will it pass inspection?

#3 Driver will be too busy to watch that many gauges

#4 Those are stock S-1 wheels but look like taller tires, so yes.

I'd rock that baby all week long and overtime on Sunday

In BC Canada there is an immaculate looking 1990 Westfield with clams in cream with a flamboyantly plum interior. Ex-Japan car so RHD. Engine code shows it as the Ford CVH 1.6L. They used to put these in Escorts in the 80s in the UK and Europe. Pretty rough noisy old engine from distant driving memory but they did respond well to tuning but that never got rid of the harsh vibrations and untuneful noise. The CVH turbo option is just what this car needs. The cross flow was a better designed engine despite being over a decade older in design. Buy it now at US$22500.

I emailed the seller of the Superformance S1, as I was curious also what the deal with the stacks was.

Q: What are the four stacks protruding through the right side of the hood for. Are they functional or just for looks to fill the original air filter hole?

A: The velocity stacks used to be for air intake. Now they are closed off with a blanking plate because the air is now introduced via supercharger.

Q: I assume the snake pipe down the lower right side of the car is the air filter/intake for the supercharger and must run outside the car for clearance reasons.

A: Yes, it is for the supercharger and for clearance reasons.

Thanks Oldfart for clearing up this mystery and adding a new one. So if that is the case then the stacks are an expensive decoration these days! Or another way of saying it - he would have had an empty space to try and cover up if he removed the stacks and he did not want to do that. Looking at the photos again, I see he could not clear an sc intake where the existing stacks were.

Despite the questions, it has been interesting to see how far a S1 could have been taken by Superformance had they been motivated and committed to their product.

 I agree, that's a cool build for the most part. At least having open stacks is not destroying the engine when built this way!

Keen eyed searchers of Ebay will see another seven out there but the negative feedback was enough to turn me off.

Quite a few Panoz AIV roadsters out there for sale right now if that floats your boat?

My vote for Salesman of the Year goes to Streetside Classics as they do their very best to sell what is left of a Panoz AIV. Look at this literary genius:

If you're a smart car guy, you'll spot the high-grade hardware living underneath this home-made creation: a 2003 Panoz AIV roadster chassis. With Mustang Cobra power, a sophisticated all-independent suspension, and massive brakes, it's got the hardware to be a sparkling performer. The bodywork is, shall we say, unique, but there's no denying the potential that exists under the skin.

We don't know what happened to the Panoz's original skin, but it couldn't have been too traumatic because the stuff underneath is still in excellent shape. This is a recent build and obviously the builder wasn't from the English Wheel and planishing hammer school of design, but that's OK. It does have an old-fashioned, industrial-strength look that might grow on you after a while. It's steel and diamond plate, so it's going to be virtually indestructible and the red paint makes it look sporty. It's unlikely that any aerodynamicists were consulted, what with the upright windshield and massive wing, but there's enough power coming out of the 32-valve Cobra motor that things like wind resistance aren't really an issue anyway. It does have thoughtful touches like a hood ornament, cool little tubular bumpers, and '39 Ford taillights with Model A auxiliary lamps up high, all of which give it a familiar feel. Is this what hot-rodding would look like if it were invented in the 21st century?

I suppose you could call two bucket seats and a steering wheel an "interior" but this is really more akin to a 4-wheeled motorcycle. The racing buckets hold you in place like your clothes were made of Velcro, which, along with the 5-point harnesses, make you feel pretty secure in a car without doors. Durable diamond plate makes up most of the interior surfaces, so you don't have to worry about wear and tear and you'll never have to vacuum the interior of this car. The Panoz steering wheel made the transition intact, as did the Cobra's white-faced gauges in the center of the dash, and a custom center console was fabbed up to hold the 5-speed manual gearbox. It's pretty light on creature comforts, but that's obviously the point and it's street legal thanks to functioning lights and signals, plus a manual wiper atop the windshield frame.

The most appealing part of this car is obviously the hardware that makes it go, starting with the 4.6 liter DOHC Ford V8. With more than 300 horsepower on tap, the performance is exciting yet reliability is virtually bulletproof thanks to OEM build quality. It's a tight fit in the narrow engine bay, but everything's in there and they did take the time to make the wiring and plumbing work right. Heck, even the custom dual exhaust system is equipped with catalytic converters, so this sucker should be emissions legal in most areas. The Ford 5-speed manual is a slick shifting unit and it drives an independent rear end with industrial-strength A-arms holding it up. Four-wheel disc brakes are massively powerful and a full set of Roush wheels give it an awesome stance. Recent 245/45/18 front and 295/35/18 rear BFGoodrich radials have been fitted.

We don't quite know what to make of it either but that doesn't stop it from being a blast to drive. Enjoy as-is or use it for the foundation of another build.

Just brilliant! That is a masterclass in how to approach selling what is a very difficult thing to try and sell. Beers on me if you are over in my neck of the woods.

Asking $27995 if you are interested.

2015 MEV Rocket.

s-l400.jpg

For sale or trade is a 2015 MEV Rocket. It is powered by a 2.0l DOHC Ford Focus making 170 hp... Lots of go fast parts availible for this motor, easily upgraded to 500hp, but it is wicked fast as is. It has a 6 speed Getrag transmission, fully independent suspension, 4 wheel Wilwood disk brakes and pedal set. This car is ready for street or track, or add your touches to it... You could get a fiberglass 65 Cobra body for it, you could add large knobby tires to it and take it off road. Spring is just around the corner, Come get it now, I am in financial trouble so my loss is your gain. A engine cover and fenders are included but not pictured.

I think I hear the mating call of MrMustang with this one. He loves a financially troubled seller. $10000 BIN.

Locost in Charlotte. SC Title, 1.8L 3TC Toyota engine. T50 transmission. Asking $9500

https://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/5501106089.html

I would swear this has been on this thread before from the paint scheme alone I cannot find the ad to cross check and the seller says in the ad that it has never been offered before?

01414_camWNAFZKbc_600x450.jpg

This is a very high quality Lotus Seven Replica. Just completed, it was built with no expense spared.

Instead of the typical Lotus Seven four cylinder motor, this one is built around an all-aluminum Rover/Buick/Olds V8. It is freshly rebuilt with all new internals including a Level-II Crower hydraulic cam. In keeping with the British Flavor of this car, it sports dual SU carbs which peak through the bonnet. It has a Getrag 5-speed transmission. It is based on a Sabre Seven chassis. Show quality paint. The only known little projects that could be attended to are (1) no seat belts are installed, and (2) park brake needs repair. The Sabre Seven kit is slightly larger than the original Lotus Seven, so there is ample room inside for full-sized people.

Great find Jim. It has been a few years but I remember that one. David Saville Peck used to build these in Canada. SV chassis with the Hayabusa engine and gearbox. Always beautiful workmanship. The numbers are lovely 256hp FWHP and only 1100pounds wet, 200 pounds lighter than a regular SV wet. 250 pounds lighter than a CSR wet.

I guess some interesting exercises happened to get this into the US from Canada?
