Kitcat
I am pretty sure forum member, and loyal NJMP se7ns gathering participant, WentMD brought back to life a damaged Birkin with more extensive damage than this one. I seem to recall he was able to salvage the gas cap, the windshield wipers, etc. So it can be done, tho it takes time and parts, and $, and the help of Tom Carlin, the Birkin USA distributor. Maybe Paul will comment?
MichaelD
God to see that none of the air bags went off. Looks fixable to me. But I don't have the equipment to straighten the frame if needed. Replacing the left suspension doesn't seem like a big deal. Can you get a look at it?
Croc
Its fixable but it will have a salvage title. So you need to buy it cheap enough to cover the repairs plus not exceed the discounted end value (once finished) from being title impaired. wemtd
Yes, new fiberglass bits are fairly easy to get: just call Tom Carlin. It looks like this could be relatively straightforward to fix and a very inexpensive seven. Maybe a resourceful locost builder is reading? From the birkin listserve: "...(I think early 2000's), Zetec powered... hit a deer and did substantial damage to the left front suspension as well as a bit of body damage to the bonnet and scuttle on the driver's side. Also obvious in the photos is the windshield damage. The driver was OK but unfortunately the same couldn't be said for the deer. "

" Thanks for all the comments, I now have a better idea of what the car is and how the damage was inflicted. Bidding is already at $5,500, once you add in fees and transportation there wont be much change from $8k. I suspect there is frame damage hence the insurance company writing it off. Probably makes sense to buy a new frame and transfer all the pieces to it.

Speedsailor
The salvage Birkin at the insurance auction went for $10,600 plus fees. Was a bit rich for me. Some one from Ranhco Cordova in CA was the winning bidder. Hope it is back on the road soon.

Croc
It really depends on the time I have available. Today is lazy day so I can type a little more. Other weeks have been more tight for time and so you get the basic links. I will be out of the country for August 8-27, Sept 1-12 and Sept 15-23 so you may have to be patient if I fail to update. I'd want to see it up close, but it has a verified Chassis # and some very rare parts including the Wingard tail lights, original gauges and Springall Steering wheel. I'd be surprised if it doesn't head back to the UK since it's RHD.
MichaelD
Croc, Thanks for the nice intro. Buddy loves to see his name in print. It seems that Ebay is having problems with my ten day listing. It has had something like 500+ visitors in two and a half days and when I looked at the back end; it says the listing ends in five hours. It just went live on Saturday! Maybe it is due to your post ;-) Than you very much. The Ebay supervisors' response was that "We see you listed it for ten days. We don't have a way to inform all of the people "Watching" the listing that our system broke. We are sorry for any inconvenience. You can relist it at not charge after it expires tonight." For those of you that were watching, it will be relisted. You can see additional information at http://www.topdocsracing.com or contact me directly md7@7mds.com Thanks for looking. philso
CMC Roller Kit https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/d/lotus-super-seven-roller/6211664592.html Does the photo showing the engine compartment appear to show rust on the lower frame rails in the transmission tunnel? That was one of several questions the seller was unwilling to answer. He said I should just fly out and go look at it in person.
APinSoFl
In South Florida (where Pompano Beach is), unpainted steel will develop surface rust rather quickly even when stored in an unconditioned garage. I'd hazard a guess that it was purchased from CMC when they were still in business and has sat in that garage since then. I think the left-rear shock has leaked, too. I live within 10 miles of it and thought about it for a hot second but I'm willing to wait (and pay) for something closer to finished and/or driveable. It would be far easier, quicker, and cheaper to fit a rollbar and fix the airbox/hood on the Lexington locost that's currently on the market than it would be to complete this rolling chassis. There were very few pictures in his ad and a lot of them were underexposed so no details were visible. I had also asked for more pictures and if the rear axle and other suspension pieces were new or not. In response, the seller told me in a rather snarky way that I should fly in to look at it and that I was welcome to take as many pictures as I want. Maybe he thinks he is running a museum and thought my objective was to get pictures of his car/kit It didn't seem to make sense to pay 10% of his asking price to go see it. I became suspicious that he is hiding something and is hoping that once someone had traveled all the way there, they were more likely to overlook some flaw. speedwagon
It appears to be surface rust, but at any rate there would be an undo then do as it has set so long. And what is the age of the tires? Too many unknowns here. And at the present time there are many "bargains" in the reasonably priced/completed/sorted/maintained category to be taking on a project, and just doing needed maintenance is a full time job.
