Lambretta, So post some photos of the car now and maybe a short bio on what all the spec's are on your very unique 7. You will find that as a group we jest in fun but we all also like all forms of 7's and from time to time we will razz each other all in good clean fun just do not let Hank know you have a Miata like some of us have and you will not catch much flack at all. That being said if it were a Lambretta edition of a Miata you would really catch all kinds of jesting about that.

OK that makes sense now. The Midget would have had another wiper post further to the left as they have three and the wiper blade would have been in the view.

Just woundering but was that photo taken from inside of an MG Midget by chance?

Your work truck looks like it might be similar to the vehicles in the movie Space Cowboys. Is it a mobile drill rig or some type of firefighting rig or what?

Hi Kitcat, Here are some photos that were taken of my car and I on the course. Yes it was more of a technical course than a speed course as we have a number of first time Autocrossers and the layout of the course with cones as you can see from the photos. We make the layout so the spacing is 15 to 18 feet wide so there is enough room and to let people try different lines around the course. This layout is a bit tighter than where we run our other events due to the size of the parking lot and the area that we require for a safety margin for those enviable off course events that due occur. John Lewis (Pro Driver from the Porsche Driving Experience Program) put down some very decent times for just showing up and driving an unfamiliar car (provided by the local Porsche dealership) that was being used just to demonstrate how doing different things while driving can make the car do what it does and how to not have it do those things and then being able to explain in a way that everyone can understand how and the why so that one can become a better and safer driver. You have to remember that his whole reason for being at our autocross was to provide guidance to participants no matter what they were driving to help them improve their driving and control of their auto. Heck I even had him ride with me and he was able to tell me a couple of things that I feel will help me. He said that my biggest issue he could see was my getting off the brakes to fast when breaking for a corner before starting my turn-in which can unbalance the car due to the transfer of energy from the springs from the compression that occurs when braking hard (the pitch back up of the front of the car). Sure made since to me after he pointed it out and it also helped me cut my lap times as I was not over cooking the corners as much and was able to be smoother through the corners I feel. I would recommend that anyone who is running an autocross or a track day get an instructor to ride with them as a refresher as we all tend to have some bad habits that we do not even realize that we do have and besides it is more of a tune up and if you pay attention to what the instructor tells you, you just might improve a whole lot even if it is only a half of a second as that is an enormous amount of time on an autocross course.

Start with the small items that you will need for the kit or build that you chose. By this I mean things that you can get and rebuild or purchase new and store for the time so that when you need them you will have them ready such as the gauges or a motor or trans or rear diff or front spindles or brakes and hand tools which you will never seem to have enough of them. One thing to consider is the amount of space a project like building a car will be needed and for how long that space will be occupied as once you get started you will not want to be moving the objects or putting them back into storage so that the space can be used for other things. Their are a number of different books that you will want to consult and read to help you with the how things work or how to rebuild some of the items that you will eventually want for your project. A good source for tech manuals would be your public library as they often have many different service manuals that you can read and photo copy the sections that you need for information that you need. As you will find others will post up other sources and info when you ask for specific questions about how to do certain things or are looking for the part that you seem to not be able to locate. Main thing you should remember is a project like building a car from a kit or from scratch is a learning process and takes about three times the time you figure it should take and about three times the money that you have initially figured on spending to complete the project and to have fun while doing it as it is not all that difficult to do it is just a lot of time and patients to see it to a finish. Hope this helps. Here is a link to photos of the build I did to give you some inspiration and ideas. https://picasaweb.google.com/MHKflyer52/ALotus7Replica Enjoy

Hello Mike, First welcome to the forum. Now as for a car cover for a seven you might want to find a local upholstery shop that makes covers for boats as they can usually make any shape and size cover for you and they have all types of material to select from and can usually recommend what type of material for the type of use that you want it for such as a light nylon cover for dry storage to keep dust off and the local cat that gets into the garage to the three layer type of material for storage outside that will keep just about anything from getting to the object that is underneath it due to the shear mass and weight. I my self have a cheap white sheet that I put over my 7 when it is in the car trailer for extended time when I remember to cover it. It is light and folds up fairly small and only keeps the dust from settling on the car and just seems to always be under foot when now being used which is why I do not use it that much. Seriously try finding a local place that makes covers for boats or snowmobiles or other things and see what they say. Hope this helps.

Ditto on that...:iagree:...and a lot cheaper and most likely better advice but that is just my belief.

Have to agree with the above folks that it is the fuel being real or better fuel and the fact that you where relaxed and not pushing the car as hard but enjoying the surroundings at least from the photos I have seen that have been posted so far. By the way thanks for sharing your trip with us all that could not or did not take part in your adventure with your 7.

Getting in touch with my feminine side
MHKflyer52 replied to Mondo's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Hi John, Sounds like you found a fun car to play with that has some mods that are good ones. The suspension setup when dialed in is one of the best and I am not a sales person for FM. Make sure on the roll-bar you get some padding if it already dose not have it to protect your head from coming into contact with it. As for speed I think you will find that your Miata is faster than you think especially in short curvy areas, yes they are not as fast as a lot of car from the start or over a long straight but on a curvy section of road or track they are fairly quick due to their ability to hold the road or at least that is what I have found with my Miata. Heck I drive it more than any of the others that I have including the 7 and my P-car. I do not think I have ever seen a Silver or Putter color 91 Miata before and I like it. Wish I had the hard top with my Miata as it dose make the car quieter and improves the stiffness and the aero of the car over the soft-top just a little. Well have fun with your new toy and as I said I like the color a lot. -
This is my fourth year as co-chair for the PCASB club and yes it is an unpaid volunteer position but watching the expression of people having fun and learning about what their car and their capibilities are at any of our autocross's is worth it besides I also have a lot of fun with it even if it is a lot of work. This was the layout for the autocross that we had this past weekend at the Earl Warren Show Grounds in Santa Barbara. It was .6 miles long FTD was 70.346sec average was between 79 an 82sec. More of a technical course than a high speed layout. Porsche North America and the local Porsche dealer also supplied one of their Pro Drivers to help with instructing first time autocorssers and even seasoned autocrossers and no he did not have the FTD. My best time was a 74.464sec run in my 7 on street tires.

Corner speed and thin aluminum
MHKflyer52 replied to supersportsp's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I had to fix my hood which is aluminum after someone sat on it and dented it. You use a slapping bar and a little heat and lots of patients to work the stretched aluminum back into shape and even then I had to use a surface file and then sand the large scratches out and then used a scotch brite green pad to polish the aluminum to a burnished look. The dents are in front of the driver and behind the air filter which is flush with the hood. See this post http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=5634 and the ninth reply has a photo of what the car looks like after lots of work to smooth out the dents. You will have a much easier time as you can get it very close and then use a thin layer of bondo to smooth out the little imperfections that will occur and then repaint the rear body section to match the color. I would think the paintless dent guy should be able to get a lot of the dents out so I would start their and ask him or a good body shop to fix it for you. -
Now that is funny and we need more judges like that who can make lite of a case that is a pile of you know what if you read between the lines of paragraph 4, but that is just my belief as I feel their are way to many cases that go to court that should have never made it to a court to even be considered and I am not a lawyer nor a judge.

Well I know this is a little early but if your into autocrossing then here is a good one at the Camarillo Airport on September 17, 2011 sponcered by the Santa Barbara Region Porsche Club. All makes of vehicles are able to run in this event so if you want to have some fun and excersize your car then this is the safe place to do it. Space is limited and their are already 2 entered autos so if you want to participate you need to get registered very soon. Here is the link to the registration flier: http://pcasb.org/pcasb/images/CamarilloAutoX_Sep2011Color.pdf Hopefully I will see some of the forum members taking advantage of the fun.

Onken, So what gear box do you have in your car....I suspect it is a sequential gear box from the sound of the shifts in your video's which cool to watch. Post some close up photos of your car as I think a lot of people would like to get a good look at it just like me. Thanks for the clips.

MHKflyer52 replied to slomove's topic in National Events
Hi Gert, How about 3 ten min clips on YouTube. Sure would promote the 7 and would get a lot of hits I would think. Video is real clear and interesting. Sure looks like you all had a great time. -
Just proves most criminals are not that smart and usually cause themselves to be caught by being stupid but again technology works wonders for the police in catching criminals these days.

I think Hank called it correct a GOOBER for sure. Public roadways and running stop signs and putting it on You-Tube...
