  1. Well at least 7 of us are man enough to admit we own a Miata (MX-5 or what ever you want to call it aka gay car or hair dressers car or chicks car) and we all know that they are fun to drive and will out preform many so called sports cars that cost two to three times as much.......:driving:... Skip I have to say I like your Miata and your engine upgrade. I have been trying to figure out how to do the turbo conversion on my 1997 1.8 ltr and still be able to have it smog legal here in Southern California and yes I know the easiest way would be to move out of the state...but that is not likely to happen for a while. FM seems to have the best setup and tech support for the upgrade but if you have any additional info about it would you please let me know.
  2. Mondo, I think a lot of the members on this forum have Miata's in their driveways or garages but just do not admit it for fear of being hasseled by some who have never driven one as they are a fun little car that everything works well and are cheap enough that having fun with it is not a concern for most owners. I know as I own one and find that I drive it a lot more than any of the other cars that I have. So what color is it. Here is a photo of the Miata that I own. The top is not a stock top and I installed it myself and provides a lot better rear ward visibility when the top is up and looks a lot better than the stock top but that is just my belief.
  3. Congradulations but the easiest way to get it home is to just write the check or pay cash......:jester:......could not help myself....had to reply...... When will you get some photos posted up so we can all see it and enjoy your new car as we all like them that much....
  4. Send me an e-mail and I will send you a PDF file of the frame model. As for the side pannels fitting to the front, if you shape the aluminum to the tubing and round the lower edge of the skin pannel it will look nice and smooth as you can see in the attached photo. Just takes sometime to shape the aluminum to be rounded instead of squared off.
  5. Just figured I would do a frame layout in SolidWorks for the fun of it as today is one of those days that are just slow.
  6. Yep. Even my Dog enjoys riding in the 7, in this photo he is waiting for me to get in so he can go for a ride. Only thing I worry about with him is he likes to chase cats and being as low to the ground I have to ensure that he is hooked in good to prevent him from jumping out while going down the road if he see's a cat.
  7. Looks like you had a good time and a nice number of 7's at the track. Got a kick out of the photo of the Boss Mustang with the BLUE FLAME TAPE JOB.....must have added 100lbs to the weight of the car from thelooks of it's stance in the last photo......just kidding he must be under braking or the rear is all jacked up..... Thanks for the photos.
  8. Looks like all where having fun especially upside down......LOL.....
  9. OUCH that had to hurt a lot.....
  10. Looks like X-MASS came early for you......very nice....hope you post more photos of the construction as you progress.
  11. Hi Mike, I have been following this posting and it sounds like you have it well under control and recived a lot of good info about towing. Only thing I did not read in the posts was about tire pressures for the trailer and the tow vehicle. You might want to consult your owners manual and make sure the tire pressures for both the trailer and tow vehicle are set to the recommended pressures as tire pressures being incorrect is the number one reason that trailer tires fail from what my tire dealer tells me. The second failure is from the sidewall of the tires on the trailer being abused when making turns from coming into contact with curbs and obsticles that cause brusing and seperation of the sidewall layers so becareful when turning. As you found out when the kids steped out to advertize their car wah that it takes a lot more room to stop it also take a lot more room to turn just so you don't forget. Becarefull and have fun at the track and post back your traveling experance with your new tow vehicle and trailer if you feel like it and maybe post some photos of your rig as it sounds like it is a nice setup. PS: Here is a photo of one of the setups I have and tow all the time.
  12. The owner of the building just wanted another sign to match the one they already have but did not expect a wing tip faring from an A380.....:smilielol5:... I bet that flight crew is looking for a new job now and the airport manager is most likely also looking for one also I would bet.
  13. You know that bang for the buck I think the Newer Corvettes (2005 or newer) are one of the best buys in the automotive world I feel and they even look great to boot and sound good too. Only issue that I have with them is my wife does not like the interior which I do not understand but that is why I do not have one, but if I had to get rid of the Porsche and the MG and the Miata and the 7 then I think I would have a nice Corvette and who knows maybe one day I will. I know get rid of the wife and keep the cars and get a Corvette...:jester:...is just not an alternative for me.....I'll just keep what I have for now and and enjoy life as it is
  14. KiwiBirkin, That is ashame as it will never be the same. Well maybe it will become the most modern city in the southern hemisphere and bring even more tourist into it when it is rebuilt. Just will not be the same but all thing have to change in order to progress.
  15. I use to frequent a Pub / Tavern that was in the main square that the main Cathedral was in which I think was Baillie’s if I remember correctly but that was quite a while ago. It was on the coroner just north of the Cathedral and was the place that my flight crew would meet when in town for the day before heading back to the NSFA compound at the airport as we could always have a beer or two and we could always find the Cathedral and then find the Pub just north of it on the corner. Easy to find and the beer was always good. Wonder if it is still open or if it was damaged by the quake. Have they fixed the bell tower of the cathedral yet or is it still laying in the square. Well it is good to know you and your family are OK and doing well. Stay safe.
  16. thegoat, You might want to look at this site as they make all kinds of seats for racing. http://www.kirkeyracing.com/index.php?link=home I actually have their seats in my 7 and they work very well at holding one in place when driving. http://www.kirkeyracing.com/index.php?link=browse&code=Series39 Make sure if you get seats from them that you purchase the seat cover for the seat and then add some padding to it to fit your body shape better. From the photos that you posted it looks as if you need your upper body better supported which will also help you control your car better as you will not be shifting around in your seat as much in high "G" situations. Just a thought.
  17. I would have to say GREEDY and LAZY by most other countries standards but that is just my belief even though the USA has more millionaires that any other country in the world with Japan being second and China third and growing as they expand their economy even thought everything is government controlled.
  18. Well spoken Mike and I do agree with your last two sentences of the above paragraph.......main thing is to have fun and enjoy the vehicle that you like and have.....besides I find that being able to drive fast and out drive higher HP cars is a lot of the fun for me and my 7 clone. :driving:
  19. squarefour, Wow.....Your so lucky that your car and house and garage where not a total loss... Glad to know their are other scratch built 7's on the forum. Nice build by the way.
  20. Very Cool looking. How did you mount it to the grill material? Can you post some other photos of your 7 and did you build your frame?
  21. or just leave the dogs home and keep the GF.......
  22. You might want to check out the KIA Forte-5-Door SX. Great bang for the money and it will put a smile on your face and meet your requirements also and save you a bundle of money.
  23. Arya, I know I am going to catch a lot of flack on this but save your money and find a older Miata (96 to 2000) or even a new one and you will have more fun than you will with a Mini but that is just my belief and yes I do own a 96 Miata 1.8ltr. and have had a real Mini Cooper S and a BMW Mini to compare it too. The real one was a lot of fun when I live in Spain as you could go just about anywhere in it. The BMW Mini was OK but was not as fun although it was very comfortable for two people but lacked that feel that a Miata has.
  24. slngsht, I used 6061-T4 .032 for the side skin as it was what was available when I skinned my car. Just have to anneal it to help shape it so it dose not crack when making very sharp bends. Normal bend radius cold is 1/2-1-1/2T for Bare T4 that is .064 thk. I used the method of bumping it into submission as shown in the photo below the cardboard siding. The floor I used 28ga (.0149") so I could tack weld it into place for added strength see the photo that is attached although I do not think you want to go that route as your car is a real 7 an not a clone like mine. Cardboard also works and is cheaper but dos not hold up as well and sure is hard to polish.......as seen in the attached photo. It dose make good templates though.
  25. Hi KiwiBirkin, Glad to hear that you and your family are OK and sorry to hear that Christchurch is in such bad shape. On the liter side here is a photo that you might find amusing after your impromptu surfing lesson in your garage. Hope it lifts your spirits.
