  1. Diversity seams to live here, so I say "keep in touch". Truth be told, I may have gone to the dark side. I bought a SUV, what was I thinking? :willy_nilly:
  2. I'm late to the game here, but I hope you are good to go soon! :auto:
  3. Do not try this at home! At 4:15 I figured out how they pulled it off, there was a large pile of additional ballast connected to the largest crane.
  4. Aside from the isolator used, the attachment to the pipe is important. The strap style clamp xguy showed spreads the load over the more of the pipe than a welded location. I had a muffler shop do some work and they welded a rod type mount to the pipe. The pipe fractured at the weld and failed after a while and I have modified it to use a U-bolt clamp and a semicircular cradle.

    Mozart

It gives new meaning to "Tit for tat"
  6. Great stuff! From the days when "the tires were skinny and the drivers were fat"
  7. I've had my '95 Caterham for a few years, I'm the 4th owner, but it came with clams. I like the old school look.
  8. Fuel pump? Trash in the fuel? Water in the fuel? That's my SWAG, good luck. :banghead:
  9. What does a dyslexic, agnostic, insomniac do all night? They ponder the question "is there a Dog?"
  10. Old school road course look no barriers or guard rails.:auto: I'm sure that has changed since the video was made.
  11. I think I have found a local shop that can reline the shoes. I think the drums are at their maximum inside diameter. The axle is out of an Austin Marina sold in the US from '73 to '75. In the UK the car(s) were the Morris Marina and Ital. I'm wondering if there is a possibility of finding new drums somewhere in the UK. I'm sure used ones could be found, but I already have a set. Ideas?
  12. I was by a friend's garage yesterday. He was telling me he is expanding his machine shop area. He said "can you tell me what this is?" I couldn't, it was an engine out of an Essex. A 6 cylinder flat head with 3 main bearings. He mainly works on American iron.
  13. Something to think about is tire availability. Which rim dia and width have more auto-x and track compounds to choose from. BTW You have the same color scheme as my 7, classic.
  14. I have a 1600 xflow. I was by a high school friends shop yesterday with my 7. He recalled rebuilding a girlfriend's 1600 in her Capri, but that was long age. If I need to rework the head it's easy to pull.
  15. Does the head have hardened valve seats for using unleaded fuel?
  16. Now that it starts and runs, I found a hydraulic leak. Gimme a break (brake). I noticed a small amount of fluid on the rear tire. It turns out to be from the rear wheel cylinder. I have ordered 2 from RockAuto, but they didn't have a listing for shoes. I think I can find someone in the Atlanta area to reline them. I notice an interesting piping arrangement. The left rear cylinder has the only bleed screw on the axle. The right rear cylinder has 2 pipes, one in and the other out to the left side. Odd. Since I'm sure they haven't been worked on in a long time, I'm wondering how much trouble it will be to break them loose. Any tricks or magic solution, the cylinders are aluminum.
  17. I went with a Ford starter solenoid and located it next to the main power cut-off switch. The original location was on the other side of the engine bay. This eliminated about 2 feet of #4 ga. copper cable.
  18. I am rethinking doing a direct replacement and using something more common at 1/3 the cost. I could use some help with the wiring. In post #42 I show the wire connections. I think the White wire is from the ignition switch. On the relay there are 0 ohms between that terminal and the case/mounting bracket. What might the Black wire connect to? +12v to boost the ignition voltage during start up? My Caterham wiring diagram shows the relay on the starter, that's not how mine is configured.
  19. What does molasses do for the garden? Get rid of ants?
  20. The guy at NAPA used an old school BOOK to identify the relay. It's an Echlin Ignition ST236 (NAPA's manufacture). He didn't find any listed as "in stock" in the ATL warehouse, it's a Monday check with the manufacture part. As far as an application, it was used on Jaguar, MG Triumph, Hillman. Let me know if there state side sources. Thanks Y'all
  21. So I have added all my fluids and have all the wires reconnected except the ignition. I turn the key and hear the relay CLICK, once, but the starter is silent. Battery +13.5v to the relay but zero on the starter side. I was able to remove the relay but it took some figuring. It is(was) mounted to the fire wall/ bottom of the foot well with nuts and bolts. Whoever installed it didn't plan on replacing it. Now I'm off to NAPA to see if we can figure what the application is.
