1. It always seems funny to see so many Sevens with low roll bars. Maybe it should be higher than one's head. Anyway, This photo of an early one came up. Certainly over the driver's head. "Over at My Hemmings, claton7 posted these photos his brother-in-law took of a hillclimb at Hershey in the early 1960s. He didn’t know much more about the photos, though, so all you vintage racing Sherlocks out there, get to work!"
2. I'll bite. What car were these pipes in? RHD Seven? Never been a fan of gold colored cars. A bit off to the one side. A good motorcycle mechanic (BMW) once told be that the key to not bluing chrome exhaust pipes was to take it easy until you could build up a layer of carbon inside the pipe, so the exterior did not get too hot. Seems most old (boxer) BMW and Triumph riders failed on that account.
3. Driven, It's all about the colors. Some days he/she wants a color to contrast with her/his outfit. Other days, it has to match. Even in green, there are just so many shades!
4. Usually you can't see it. The smell is more dominant.
5. You might also think about trimming off some of the excess bolt length. I did so, not for the tires, but for using tire bonnets (straps) which caught on the bolts, between the tire and fender.
6. Great stpry. We look forward to regular updates.
7. Don't get me started...but I'll give one example. I've brought about 30 cars across, one way or another. Inspections? We brought in a Lambo Countach, through a familiar customs broker, on a temporary in-transit bond. The car was in Nuevo Laredo, and the wheels had been stolen while sitting in another customs broker's lot. I checked the junk yards, with no luck for the $4000 worth of wheels. Bought 4 Gran Marquis wheels and had the holes opened up to the metric size, roughly. With the bond arranged, the car went on a tiltbed and we headed to the bridge. Sat in the US Customs impound lot for about 6 hours. I hung around the truck and car till we were given the go ahead to leave. I thought we would have some deep search, as I could not imagine this looked like anything but a drug dealer's car, on black steeles. The lot is huge. No official ever came out within 100 yards of the car!
8. I just don't worry about it. Didn't display one on the old Miata either. Our Texas cops do not seem to care. Bless them. Anyway, some tickets are just like a tax. If we enjoy the benefits, we shoould be willing to pay the tax. Plate ticket = tax on beauty. Speeding ticket = tax on speed. I just pay and go on.
9. If I was thinking of a new Miata, I would seriously consider the FIAT. It is SOOO much nicer looking. Down right pretty car. Too bad they didn't just change the body and keep the Mazda running gear. Then I really might want one.
10. Really? A grey market 1982 Fiat? That one is not proudly displayed on your tag line.
11. That's better. I really liked the HiOfcr from a week or so back.
12. As near as I can tell, there is a difference between an equally spec'ed Birkin and a Caterham...$10k. There, that ought to start something.
13. "Do you autocross?" Sure. It is unfortunate that a plain street Seven has to run in D Mod. If a real DM showed up, it would weight 300 pounds less, have double the engine power and double the tire. Lucky there is no one doing that locally. These are fun cars for that. Drive to the "track", run, drive home.
14. Looking good. I see you have the cone bumper. Ready for the first autocross of spring.
15. "... possibly old pugs..." Yes, pugs never seem to be able to breathe right. They always seem to gag and spit and snort. Maybe they should all be choked. No offense to owners. Sweet little ones, I'm sure.
16. Large head, short arms, big a__. Croc?
17. Great finds, Croc. The Westfield featuring an aero headrest AND a big wing. The S4 has the old trick of mounting the speedometer so that 180 KPH is straight up.
18. Apex, don't take it personally. Our Croc has ruffled feathers before, and will again. But, that's why crocs are so cute. Occasionally a bit snarlly, but they make great boots.
19. "The guy that owned the Challenger had a strategy to avoid door dings you hadn't thought of! Yes, they were on both sides!" But that is not where the door on a Seven would hit ! ?
