  1. Mike - if you’re taking these on-track pics, are you not driving in those sessions? Wish I was there. Plan to be back next year. Steve
  2. Shippert took the pole, with an Accura next to him in the front row, and Craig third fastest. Race is 3pm Friday. https://www.scca.com/events/1995744-2020-scca-national-championship-runoffs/event_sessions/1995971-fp-qual-3-1602189710-77
  3. After the second day of qualifying, Sevens are in the top two spots in FP at the SCCA Runoffs at Road America. Craig Chima, who has both posted and sold parts from USA7s, is second fastest. The top spot is held by Ethan Shippert, who moved over from open wheel this year. https://www.apexspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?89468-Fenders-at-the-Runoffs Be interesting to see if they can hold off the Miatas. Looks good so far. Here is the full list of qualifying times: https://www.scca.com/events/1995744-2020-scca-national-championship-runoffs/event_sessions/1995953-fp-qual-2-1602102330-85
  4. I found this car confusing the first time it was sold. It has the round top transmission tunnel, and does not have double A arm front suspension. I thought by ‘98 (or earlier actually) they had gone solely to the flat top and true double A-arms. I also wonder if it’s truly just a 1600 Xflow. It does have the Super Sprint valve cover, and the 4 into 1 exhaust. I do like the color combo.
  5. Some info on Caterham bump steer here: http://www.fastgrandad.co.uk/documents/Measuring%20and%20Correcting%20Bump%20Steer%20on%20a%20Caterham%207.pdf His webpage with other articles is here: http://www.pauldeslandes.co.uk/page8.html I originally found the bump steer article on Blatchat. Steve
  6. Keeping with the history theme, does anyone subscribe to Absolute Lotus Magazine. There is an issue with an article on the 7x.
  7. 2015 Caterham 420R https://www.apexspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?89060-2015-Caterham-420R You need to be an ApexSpeed member to see most of the listing. Car is in Colombia South America (!!). It’s a race car, full cage. 185 hp Duratec.
  8. Do you know what cam you have? I have the Kent 244. Believe I have the “normal” setup for a 244. I can pull what I can this weekend and let you know.
  9. Manual (here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5p1sx08nqe1pha2/AAAh13Jz2sAMj3fiNiptl6gEa?dl=0&preview=Manual_Type9.pdf) says 24-30 lb ft. (Section 2, page 168). Steve
  10. The half hood is great, but for that kind of trip I’d recommend both. Driving for an hour, or two, or three in the rain with just a half hood is going to become a wet experience. With the full hood and doors, you stay quite dry (or at least I have), and it’s surprisingly cozy. I’ve also parked in an uncovered hotel parking lot when it has rained all night, and was glad I had the full hood. And yes, the frame folds down around the opening of the boot, and the top folds up. I have kept my doors in the passenger footwell, and full-hood behind the passenger seat. The half-hood can sit on the boot cover and strap to the roll bar. Steve
  11. Apologies if this is already in the current list: https://showroom.windingroad.com/listings/product/5097/?mc_cid=47fc32e0d8&mc_eid=f194e8c735
  12. The last track day I did with MVP was at COTA in 2013. Lots of high powered cars (Mark markets to Porsche and Viper owners, or at least he did), and I spent most of the weekend staring in my mirrors and doing point by’s. At the drivers meeting before the first session we were warned that the esses were deceptive, and kept tightening as you went through. Were also told that someone had crashed there at all the events that had been held (COTA had just opened). The picture is the result of the esses. First session, advanced group.
  13. Finally did the compression test, and the results are not good. I did it cold, and results were: Cylinder 1 - 120 Cylinder 2 - 125 Cylinder 3 - 100 Cylinder 4 - 140 Seems like things are not happy at cylinder 3. Haven't pressure tested the cooling system, but don't really feel the need at this point. Steve

    Quickjack

Nice. I’ve looked at those a few times. Hopefully better made than the ubiquitous Harbor Freight jack stands. https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/buying-maintenance/a32600586/harbor-freight-jack-stands-recalled-for-risk-of-collapsing/
  15. Mike - as you may have noticed, I have been following (I asked about photos of the inboard front suspension) this auction. Agree redcloud’s comments are quite interesting. Plus, looking at his BAT history, he owns/owned a Mallock!! A little surprised there has been no rebuttal of statements in his post.
  16. I've taken my distributor out on my Crossflow without removing the carbs/manifold. Lucas distributor?
  17. I’m not so sure it’s a Weber part. Didn’t find it after a quick look on Pierce Manifold, although they do have lots of linkage parts and kits. https://www.piercemanifolds.com/category_s/223.htm Maybe contact Redline Components in the UK? http://www.redlinecomponents.co.uk/
  18. The owner of the Elkhart Collection vintage raced with the organization I race the Mallock with, the VSCDA. I met him briefly about 6 years ago, and last remember seeing him at a party at Gingerman in 2018. He would have a tractor trailer with 6-8 cars with him, and all sorts of support crew. Believe his daughter and maybe son-in-law also raced. I was told he had lots of cars, and he clearly had money. But no idea his collection was that large.
  19. Looking for confirmation (I guess) that what I've found is indeed the dreaded "cottage cheese". First, a confession. The Seven has not been exercised since last summer's NJMP event. Life has been complicated, and the Mallock has been absorbing all my attention. That's my excuse, and I'm sticking with it. But, one of the reasons it's not been driven has been how the engine has been running since the end of the track event. Basically, running on what seems like 3 cylinders, and unable or unwilling to clear it's throat. I pulled the plugs, and they looked oily. So, threw in new plugs, but no change. As I pondered my next analytical step, for some reason I opened the thermostat housing - and found what you see below. So, I believe this is "cottage cheese", formed by the combo of oil and coolant. And yes, my coolant is green. Assuming it is, pulling the head seems like the appropriate next step? And hopefully just a head gasket replacement. Thoughts and opinions welcome. Thanks.
  20. You know what they say. A watched battery never charges.

    Coronavirus

So, pretty much like a Seven.
  22. I added a rear ARB to my '98 probably 10 years ago, so much of the install is a bit hazy. But....I thought I remembered that there was a circlip on the droplink that you could remove and the droplink would come away from the mount (either to the ARB or the rear axle). It was a fast way to remove the ARB when it rained at a trackday. I just found photos from when I installed it, and it shows the circlip. I think if you remove the drop link that way, you may find you can get a wrench on it. You can also see the flats on the bodies of the droplink.
  23. From the write up, it sounds like the clam shells were made for the wide track front suspension, which I don’t think the originals (like I have) support/fit. Wonder what 14” Avon tires they are using? In general, tire selection in 14” is not the best.
  24. Removed duplicate entry to post above.
  25. Yes, you should be able to access the tunnel by removing the center arm rest. I removed mine to repair the covering, which had come unglued. As I remember it just pulled off (I don’t have carpet on my tunnel walls), and I only had to remove the gearshift knob.
