  1. I like when someone has original thoughts and design http://www.yikebike.com/site/home
  2. Welcome Sandy, So how much safer do you feel in the original mini;)
  3. Nice.. I think my lights are that size. Where'd you get them?
  4. Congrats, Well now you can put whatever lights, turbo, supercharger... basically anything you want on the car. You won't be seeing anymore "inspectors"!
  5. Busa, Do you have young kids? Thank the unions they can go to school instead of work. Weekends off? Overtime pay? Do you think most large employees would provide medical/retirement benefits if not for Labor's influence? Do you really want comparable wages to 3rd world countries? How will your children pay for healthcare then? The amount Republicans say Obamacare will cost is still less then the trajectory of premium increases we've been seeing from the insurance companies. If you really want to live in a Libertarian country move to Somalia... no taxes, no roads, no schools, just pay for your own protection and services, don't count on anyone else sharing costs ... you can really enjoy your freedom there. Dude, there's middle ground on all these issues (services, cost & debt). We just need to ignore the rhetoric from the extreme right and left. We need to be looking at reasonable solutions instead of constantly finding fault (which is the easiest thing to do).
  6. Drives better with one hand then I do with two;)
  7. I think you'll find that local government provides a lot more services than they did back then. New technology has spawned I.T. departments and other services that weren't around back then. Some of it is unfunded or partially funded mandates sent down from the State or Feds. Some of it was voted in by local residents. Furthermore, there's more environmental regulations (at least in California). Over the years, pay and benefits of government employees has grown more (or more accurately, has not been cut as bad as private employees). In California, the State took control from local government of education, gas taxes etc.. when Prop 13 was passed in the 70s. This gave them more control over local government and gave them a pot of money to "borrow" from, resulting in local government being raided to bail out the State. My two cents
  8. Look forward to the Laguna results... post a pic when you get a chance
  9. NASA had the use of one at Edwards Air Force base when I was stationed there. My favorite too. OK Kevin.... how fast can it really go?
  10. Funny stuff... "shaving while ex-husband steered... getting ready for date with new boyfriend... suspended license for being busted for DUI the day before".
  11. Hijacking thread... we had some old 50s (or earlier) Seagrave "Squads" still in the Bakersfield Fire Department back in the 80s that would of been perfect for a Blastolene type ride (except for the brakes which only had about 3 hard stops in them). They were open top shorter fire engine size apparatus that just carried a fire pump and hose, no water tank but had the big in line diesel engine and manual trans.. who would of thunk

  14. Nice to have another new member, welcome. No shame in purchasing a built car.... usually has the bugs worked out. And if you don't have space... or time... or patience... or skill.... you get why I bought it already built;) Dont' worry, there's always something to tinker on with these cars.
  15. Glad to hear he's got other work going during this recession.... also just read an article that said Texas is feeling the downturn the least. Good for you guys! Better than the mess we got here in the "Golden State";(
  16. Got an email showing some cool engines and we've shown tiny scale things here before. This museum is pretty cool http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/

Anti-constitutionalistically 3. Passive-aggressive disorder 4. Transubstantiate THINGS THAT ARE DOWN RIGHT IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY WHEN DRUNK: 1. No thanks, I'm married. 2. Nope, no more booze for me! 3. Sorry, but you're not really my type. 4. Kebab? No thanks, I'm not hungry. 5. Good evening, officer. Isn't it lovely out tonight? 6. Oh, I couldn't! No one wants to hear me sing karaoke. 7. 19. Sorry to hear the bad news Al.... hang in there
  20. I bought that insulation material to cover half the diameter of the muffler... it's expensive as it cost "per square inch"! I had the shield made. It's a pretty thick metal, not real light. It was more complicated than it looks (at least to me) as it's 3 different size half pipe pieces welded/grinded together (without warping)... plus welding on some mounting tabs with threaded holes to the muffler (have to grind off ceramic coating to weld). I think we put some tabs on the inside of the cover to match the grommet holes on the insulation to keep in place. Luckily I got a price before the fabricator got started because I know he spent way more time than the hourly price I paid. Like a lot things, it's often more complicated to look simple.

    Bathtub test

helped when I said the color out loud to myself.... I liked this one (optical illusion) http://www.humorsphere.com/p/19.html
  22. No real air gap between the muffler/heat shield material/cover... bit of a gap where the cover narrows down up front. Tried to keep the cover as small and close the the exhaust as possible. We don't have a ceramic coating place in town so painted it to match car instead of exhaust. Might look better/cleaner if cover matched exhaust system.
