Brake & Light inspection needed in San Jose area
Sean replied to roger's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Wow! The guy I used never even physically touched the car. And while I don't recall the exact cost, it was less than a hundred bucks (in 2011). As for side marker lamps, 1974 (or any other year) is meaningless. Side lamp markers are simply not required in California. I know of one vehicle code section which applies, and it is written to permit a car to have them, but does not require them: Don't you just love it when some entry-level bureaucrat wannabe abuses his authority so far as to just make up his own requirements? :banghead: Best of luck on the brake and lamp inspection, Roger. My advice to you would be to not get too attached to any one shop, and be ready to go to a back-up in case you get a rogue B&L inspector wacko. -
Brake & Light inspection needed in San Jose area

I went to Akin's Auto Repair on Park Ave., near the San Jose CalTrain station. They are down what looks like an alley just west of the underpass for the train track bridge, so a little hard to find. Here is what I wrote about it on the California Caterham Club forum back in 2011: I cannot recall the cost, but that would be irrelevant after this many years anyway. Best of luck. -Sean -
Caterham (Lifeline) removable steering wheel install: Align wheel splines with shaft splines and push Pull "release handle" back, and push some more - you should feel it go further and fully engage Release "release handle" Pull back on wheel without pulling "release handle" to verify proper engagement If the steps above for install do not work, there is likely a mechanical defect somewhere, but the wheel coming off is typically because it was not fully put on in the first place. Most of us have probably done this at one time or another - I know I have. One would think it would just slide on and fully engage - click! - but unfortunately, that's not the case.

Glad you were able to get it corrected so quickly. You might want to remove the specific serial number of your car from your post? edit -- and the other guy's S/N as well.
-
On mine, I push the wheel on, but must pull the flange back while pushing to get it to fully engage. After initial engagement, are you pulling back on the flange and pushing it further to the "2nd level" such that it is fully engaged? I suspect maybe you have never had it fully engaged?

I don't often visit this site anymore, but the timing is good for this one. On Wednesday of next week, August 13, will be the 5th annual The Little Car Show in Pacific Grove, CA (kind of a suburb of Monterey). This is one of the more low-key events in the area during "Car Week", and I thoroughly enjoyed it the two times I have previously attended. REF: http://www.marinamotorsports.org/events/

A recent quote from an interview with Graham Macdonald, previously CEO of Caterham Cars, and now CEO of Caterham Group: "It's quite true that we've just signed a new U.S. distributor - called Superformance; they have a solid sportscar background and they firmly believe there is a big market for the Seven in the United States, far greater than we have ever achieved in the past. In recent times, we have sold in the region of 6 to 12 cars per year - Superformance has signed up to 50 cars to start with and is adamant that there is a bigger market to be developed."

. This guy's car appears to have a lot of the stuff that ART makes or sells, like the Dymag wheels, their cf bonnet, and their catalytic converter-in-the-can silencer/exhaust system.

Is there such a thing as a Brunton and/or Stalker badge? I have never seen one.

PM sent.

I think we have a winner here. Unless somebody here got one at age 20 or earlier? As some comedian once said, I am either near the end of an unhealthy life, or near the middle of a healthy one.

anyone seen a cage like this before?

The one in the article appears to me to have some significant differences from the Caterham (Caged) one: Looks much shorter Side bar is different shape "Windshield" part is way more upright; less raked Different front pick-up point on the side Bottom of rear "hoop" does not bend back inboard -
Try Redline Components Limited.

I don't think posting a "private" message publicly is helping anything. :bs: Not cool, IMO.

D-ring on the lap belt on the ones in my 2006 car.

An interesting article on a RST V8-engined Caterham SV from evo magazine in the UK (2004 September): here Another article on the Freestyle super-wide 7 from the same magazine (2005 January): here Bruce - Pretty sure the dampers were fitted there as a temporary solution to make the the start of the USA 2005 tour. Obviously not optimal, and he fitted the full inboard system soon after, I believe. edit -- Alaskossie - Rear wings are pretty wide, at +55mm wider than standard, as opposed to Mike's RST car which has a 2-inch alumin(i)um spacer between the body and the standard width wing. Gotta cover the extra width of the SV deDion tube one way or another: http://i321.photobucket.com/albums/nn384/BBL-Sean/Carmel2011/2011-08-14_PCH02.jpg

Because Terry either left the forums or was kicked out. He started a thread that he was thinking maybe he "was done" with this forum, then started another one with a post that was in clear violation of the rules. Admin closed that thread and indicated Terry had asked to "leave", though I can find no post where that request was specifically stated by Terry. Maybe he PM'd an admin requesting to leave? His account now appears to be disabled. Anyway, it would appear that, at least in the near term, any updates on the proposed 2015 GBB from the organizer will not be found here.

The last line from the original press release regarding Superformance: This would seem to imply that they will be assembled to roller level of assembly in the UK before shipping to the US, but I suppose the phrase "part-built form" could have any number of meanings.

I have a PC625, and it was still going strong at seven years when a poor crimp caused a massive short that diminished its capacity. I replaced it with another PC625, and all has been well to date. I have noticed that cranking power is diminished on cold mornings (30-40F), but that isn't really surprising.

Superformance new USA Caterham Distributor
Sean replied to Kess's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Agree about the mirrors and nose badge, but I've never seen a CSR that didn't have inboard coil-overs; probably an SV. The NACA duct on that particular car is conspicuously located in the same place most of the latest Caterhams have the cold air intake: intake side, just ahead of the scuttle. The ones on the Caterham UK web page show a carabiner-shaped hole with a screen instead of a NACA duct, but in the same location. -

You and I have known that for a while, I'm sure, but from the questions I typically get in gas stations and parking lots, I don't think John Q. Public has known. Advertising Caterhams as a roller being the standard with CKD as an option would be the opposite of the previous way it had been done. Not sure I want more people to buy Caterhams either, but I believe we all would benefit from more being sold. As Croc pointed out, the 7 is unlikely to become this century's Model T (unless Mazda's next Franken7 can literally fly, in which case we're all screwed). -

Agreed. And with so much more Caterham awareness enhancing announcements and events and whatnot in the recent past, present and... future (?), it would seem inevitable that awareness will only increase. I see the rolling chassis option as a barrier lifted for so many who would have always loved to get a Caterham, but have previously been for whatever reason put off by complete self-assembly. I expect this alone should increase sales, as long as the kit option remains for those who desire it. Otherwise, they may be losing one type of customer to gain another. -

I think we agree; CC's press release did not imply anything, but Mr. Kozak's article clearly did.
