  1. A photo of your current one might help. I saw some items available after searching for "duratec coil mount", but not sure that is what you're after?
  2. Yeah, but sometimes they move right into the way!
  3. Actually, Tiger made three attempts at cracking the sub-three second 0-60 mark with a twin bike engined car, and the first two were using RWD - one with twin Kawasaki ZX9s and one with twin GSXR1100s. See the link posted above. You might want to contact them to ask about their approach to this issue on those first two cars.
  4. Hey, Ferrino! You have been absent for a while. Funny, I just mentioned you in a post a few days back here.
  5. That would be the Tiger Z100WR, with two Suzuki GSXR 1000 engines and 4WD. http://tigerracing.com/z100.php
  6. There is a Brit in San Diego who got his R1 engined Caterham in U.K. below 850 lbs (385 kgs), but had to sell the car when he moved to the U.S. That car was still well under 880 lbs with a half-tank of fuel.
  7. My personal view is that if one has something to sell, an asking price needs to be put forth up front, rather than just waiting for offers. Conversely, if one wishes to buy something that is not being specifically offered for sale, an offer should be tendered by the interested party, rather than just asking "How much?". I always held this to be standard protocol amongst reputable buyers and sellers, but maybe I'm just old?
  8. I like the line in one of the ads that touts "tons of carbon fiber", on a car that weighs just over half a ton.
  9. Why, I do believe that is the highest compliment one could ever hope to offer or receive in a Sevens forum. Thank you, sir! Caterham S3 w/ 2.3 Duratec - 1186 with about seven gallons of fuel.
  10. Thanks, Kiyoshi. I found Gary's contact info today, so will ask him directly.
  11. Good to hear the recovery is going well. I have never met or done business with Dave Bean, but admire his reputation. A related question for you, Kiyoshi (may be kind of a longshot): There is a guy who lives not far from Dave Bean's shop, in San Andreas, named Gary Arentz who does lots of work on magnesium parts for the car racing world - he refinished some wheel centers for me years ago. Do you know if Gary was impacted by the fire? I would think there would be a good chance Dave would know Mr. Arentz, and whether he was impacted.
  12. A new kit car is not a car, but car parts. This is because they have never been assembled into a car. Importing these parts to the U.S. would be perfectly legal. Importing a car (whether a kit car or otherwise) that has been disassembled and misrepresenting it as car parts that have never been built into a car before, when you know this to be untrue, would not be legal. Importing is a federal matter; titling and registering are a state matter. These are two very different subjects. It all can be a bit confusing at first. We're here to help, sir!
  13. Steve - I didn't think about that before. So I just posted it there, just now. I don't see why L7C MT would have issue with it, as that's the whole point of it, right? edit -- I learned of the current use of 213-04 as a knowledge repository through a thread on the new L7C forum. I hope posting it to FB doesn't cause any issues!?
  14. The old BlatChat remains search-able in its previous state. Just go to http://213-04.com/searchsp.asp and populate the appropriate fields as before, being sure to change the two relevant pull-down boxes, and then your aunt Roberta will have successfully completed gender reassignment surgery. Wind deflector? Aeroscreen! edit -- Your car does look really good in that photo, Mike.
  15. Hi Bob, The cap is made for Caterham by Newton Equipment in the UK. Their NA distributor is Fuel Safe, and their UK distributor is Think Automotive. I believe the branded cap will only be available through Caterham or their agents, but any of the other non-branded parts you should be able to get through their normal distributors. This is my belief only rather than personal experience, as I have never tried to source any replacement parts from this part of the car (yet). Best of luck.

    Ground issues?

A sketchy ground on the instruments is common. Prevailing wisdom on BC is to loosen or remove the nut on the main ground point behind the dash where the wiper motor bolts in (behind passenger side knee trim panel, which will need to be removed first and re-installed after), scrape some paint/powder coating away at the point on the frame where the threads protrude to expose bare metal for a solid grounding path, and re-install/re-tighten nut. I did this, but added a dab of conductive grease as well, and it did the trick on my 2006 car. Best of luck.

  18. It is important to distinguish between state requirements and federal requirements. Importing is federal, and titling and registering are state. According to what I was told on a phone call to an NHTSA representative (took some doing to track down the right person!), once an engine or gearbox has been installed into your assembly of car parts, that assembly at that moment became a car, forevermore - it's a bit like the definition of the word "virgin". Even if the engine and/or gearbox (or any other parts) are subsequently removed, the assembly will remain a car in the eyes of the applicable branches of the federal government, and cannot be legally imported into the U.S.A. Or so it was explained to me by an NHTSA guy. Croc's write-up covers all the key points, and agrees with everything I have learned from all genuine sources of authority or experience. There is a lot of misinformation being propagated on the internet and beyond, so it is important to verify any information as being true and correct for your situation before proceeding. I understand that getting something wrong after the fact in these matters might prove to be very costly. Best of luck, sir.
  19. Sonoma Raceway (a.k.a. Sears Point)
  20. Gumby and Pokey bendables - the original action figures! Battleship board game - as much fun for the guys as washing dishes is for the gals, apparently.
  21. Some Duratecs have a balance shaft; others do not. It depends on the application. As I understand it, the 2.3 Ranger blocks do not have one, but the 2.3 Focus ones do. Not sure about the 2.0, but I believe they all have one. The Focus modders have BS delete kits for removing it, as it is heavy. I don't know a lot about it first-hand, but I recall seeing discussions about this on Focus forums in the past. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
  22. Yeah, near enough; in San Jose. But I have relatives in Carmel/Monterey, so I go there fairly often.
  23. May, eh? I'm always looking for a good excuse to grab a beer, if you're not swamped w/ business appointments during your visit. :seeya: If it is not convenient, no worries; I'm not that thin-skinned.
