  1. COSTCO is $300 off on these QuickJacks. https://www.costco.com/quickjack-5000tl-portable-car-lift-system.product.100833778.html My take on these is one should have some competency assembling hydraulic systems as the setup and bleed is critical. Its probably the best solution for the small 2 car low ceiling garage. I don't know how well they fit on our cars. I suppose with the skillset one could create a perfectly fitting system for chassis lifting. Negative reviews indicate some issues with fitting defects, missing parts and poor manufacturers support (MIChina). I would suggest collecting it from the COSTCO warehouse and refusing it there if not complete. Should be ideal for drive up lifting under the wheels. Don't use in earthquake areas.
  2. Just for the sake of discussion, isn't it a fact that coolant flowing slower with higher pressure will absorb more heat than a faster coolant flow?
  3. Might want a restrictor in place of a thermostat to slow down the water flow.
  4. I suppose opening the heater circuit or unplugging the intake manifold coolant circuit and pluming into the water pump could help alleviate hot spots while warming up. I suppose one would need to know what the running trmp is without a thermostat.
  5. Is that available from Cat? They tend to list parts by car model designation. What model is is?
  6. Can we see the buckles? is there a submarine strap?
  7. Nice header tank. Who's is it?
  8. Its much easier to tell the admirers its a Lotus than to explain what a Caterham is. Everybody know Lotus. Im going to make a sticker with one of those QR scans that directs to a website.
  9. What is Mr. Murray known for?
  10. How are the brakes?
  11. Any resolution?
  12. These are available at Caterham. Should work on Escorts and T9s https://caterhamparts.co.uk/clutch-cables/2568-clutch-cable-lhd-de-dion-vxrv-and-live-axle-95.html They aren't known for reliability (First Line FKC1020)so get a few. They shear at the eyelet crimp. If anyone knows a better cable, chime in.
  13. Have the 7 delivered to a specialist like Rocky Mountain to sort it before export. It can be adjusted for your driving style. Any parts can be swap traded. get what you need while its still here.
  14. How do you get it?
  15. Good article "Both types of ZDDP offer anti-wear protection, but the gasoline type of ZDDP provides more protection for higher-speed engines (think bigger valvesprings)". There are different formula of ZDDP for gas and Diesel, and race. There is probably some good info on Bob the oil guy.
  16. Box the steering rack mounts to control bump steer. Thanks for sharing. You have nice toys!
  17. Schaeffers Racing oil.
  18. @lotsatsPlease don't keep your project under wraps. Many here would get alot of inspiration mand motivation seeing your progress. Where/how did you do the body skinning?
  19. Another way is find out what the OEM painted it as originally fitted. I doubt Lotus would have bothered to repaint a Triumph Herald steering rack. https://www.gglotus.org/ggpart/sevenxref.htm Black seems to be the answer.
  20. I love the smell of octane in the morning...
  21. Get everything clean, bagged, tagged, and cataloged. or catalogued. Keeping your project clean, uncluttered and organized will go a long way towards progress. Or selling it off to the next guy.
  22. Looks like a proper Caterham. Sdkllkrgss I have 342900 Needs flared wings!

  24. My notes on oil I have collected from several discussions on flat tappet oils with ZDDP ZINC: Driven Racing oil GP1 Brad Penn Lower API spec Shell RotellaT Valvoline VR1 5W30 Joe Gibbs Driven LS30 Performance Motor Oil, Synthetic – 104,487 PSI Zinc: 1610 ppm Phos: 1496 ppm Moly: 0 ppm Calcium: 3515 ppm TBN: 8.8 This oil has too much Zinc & Phos for use in catalytic converter equipped vehicles. It would work well for Race Cars, Street Hotrods and Classic cars. The bottle says it is formulated specifically for high output GM LS engines, and that no ZDDP or additives are required. 5W50 Motorcraft, API SN – 103,517 PSI Zinc: 606 ppm Phos: 742 ppm Moly: 28 ppm Calcium: 1710 ppm TBN: 6.7 10W30 Valvoline VR1 Conventional Racing Oil (Silver Bottle) – 103,505 PSI Zinc: 1472 ppm Phos: 1544 ppm Moly: 3 ppm Calcium: 2707 ppm TBN: 7.6 10W30 Valvoline VR1 Synthetic Racing Oil, API SL (Black Bottle) – 101,139 PSI Zinc:1180 ppm Phos:1112 ppm Moly: 162 ppm Calcium: 2664 ppm TBN: 7.4 5W30 Chevron Supreme Conventional, API SN – 100,011 PSI Zinc: 1018 ppm Phos: 728 ppm Moly: 161 ppm 10W30 Amsoil Dominator Racing Oil, Synthetic – 97,118 PSI Zinc: 1613 ppm Phos: 1394 ppm Moly: 0 ppm 20W50 Castrol GTX, API SN, Conventional – 96,514 PSI Zinc: 610 ppm Phos: 754 ppm Moly: 94 ppm 30 wt Red Line Race Oil – 96,470 PSI Zinc: 2207 ppm Phos: 2052 ppm Moly: 1235 ppm Not suitable for street use. 0W20 Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy, API SN – 96,364 PSI Zinc: 742 ppm Phos: 677 ppm Moly: 81 ppm This is an earlier version of this oil that did not have Dexos 1 approval.
