Paul - If you are interested, we will have a few NJMP instructors in the sevens run group that you could accompany as a passenger if you are interested. Just bring an in-date helmet if you have one. If not then we will work out some solution closer to the date.

He's happy flexing a few fingers when the rest of us enjoy a vigorous work out with our right hand!

As a possibility of an add on - as of today there is a possibility to rent the Lightning track on either the morning or full Monday July 6 for a very concessional amount. Catch is that it would be a max of 6 cars in the paddock running open pit lane format. So we could not accommodate everyone - it would be first in scores the place. Thoughts?
-
Tom - you take the right and I take the left and we have a pincer move going into corner one. Failing that Mike G (Klasik) will punt him into the sand pit coming onto the main straight! :jester:
-
Since I got these questions as a couple of PMs I will repost the answer for the benefit of everyone here. 1) There are garages for rent at the Thunderbolt Pits. However, these garages are only available from 4pm for overnight and must be vacated next morning as an event will be using that circuit. They are also not lockable as they are common. That said they are fairly secure overnight - I have never heard of an issue from anyone in the years I have been using the circuit and there has been some serious machinery and tools/gear stored in there over the years. Failing that I will have at least 1 space in my 2 rented garages and if someone gives me a hand I bet I can get 2 in there with some rolling jack stands. Lastly, there are likely people to be camping in the Lightning pits, so we could put a cover over the cars and park it next to the RV/tent of the people staying there - perfectly secure on the NJMP property with its 24 hours security gate and roving patrols and cameras. People do that with their cars quite frequently. 2) Some people have expressed the idea of sharing a pit suite to save some money. Its early days but putting my eHarmony hat on, I am sure I can match people up using the 69 different dimensions of compatibility closer to the event. Actually you only need 1 dimension - a love for sevens! There are TWO beds in the pit suites so no ideas! A cleaning fee is charged if you take grease covered tools, slick tires, coolant, etc to bed. :seeya:

John - You can still take Barney the Westfield posting as a token of my gratitude for restoring my access. Mazda needs another Frankenseven.....hmmmm.... I got it! Calling Slngsht to the forum! Here it is - as the ad says, "17 feet and 3800 pounds of unique style and pleasurable driving"! Its called a "Johnson" for a reason. :willy_nilly: http://www.higherturnover.com/images/vehicles/20080705/400/642440_1415064654_20.jpg It has clams, a v8, "vogue tires" and more leather than is whipped at an S&M shop. It even comes with what looks like a banana chassis. I would like to see him auto crossing this! :ack: -
Things are still rubbery and coming together but I did want to put a placeholder of dates out there for everyone. Again we will be holding the event on July 4 long weekend, generously hosted by NJMP. Similar arrangements to prior year but a more detailed organization outline will follow closer to the date. Friday July 3 - Arrive early afternoon and set up. If early and if there is demand we could organize a karting event that afternoon. Our current plan subject to confirmation is a casual outside BBQ pool party at the NJMP clubhouse. Saturday July 4 - HPDE with Drivers Club on the Lightning Circuit. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments included. Evening dinner reception with other Drivers Club members at the home of NJMP track founder and all around good guy, Don Fauerbach. People who attended last year know how good this was. Sunday July 5 - HPDE with Drivers Club on the Lightning Circuit. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments included. For those staying over we are thinking there will be a dinner in the Breighton Room at the NJMP Clubhouse. Monday July 6 - head home. I am still trying for the possibility of a third day on track, maybe the Monday, but the chances appear remote at this stage. We will be running the Lightning Circuit again. This is a fast little momentum circuit, well suited to our cars with a nice variety of corners and elevation changes and of course the bowl which is great fun to play with. This can be a frustrating track if you are out there with the bigger road cars like Corvettes, Mustangs or Porkers as they heavily brake in 2 areas of the track where a seven can sail through. However, we don't have to worry about that as having a sevens only run group means even the slowest CrossFlow is very quick through every corner. Despite the HP disparity last year the group flowed really well - so much so it really did not feel like there were many people out on track at all. We will eventually have a private registration page on Motorsportreg.com for signing up and paying for the Friday and Saturday dinners, visitors, etc., but don't expect this until say around May this year. NJMP does insist on vetting driver capabilities as this is an event they organize and are responsible for. They have a strong belief in safety which is to be commended. Drivers who have previously driven with this event will be evaluated based on their past performance. Drivers who are new to the event will be required to submit a driving resume for evaluation by NJMP. This will be a sevens only HPDE run group session. To make it this way we have to compromise run group rules. It will be with passing only on straights with a point by. No passing in corners or braking zones. No passengers on track other than for Drivers Club accredited instructors. Usual safety gear rules apply - in date helmets, long pants, closed toe shoes, arm restraints, in date belts, head below roll bar level, car freshly serviced, etc. This is not a race - it is a HPDE event. Those wanting to come here and set lap records should find another event as the aim is to enjoy the dynamic abilities of our sevens in a safe environment. Full safety gear requirements will follow in a later update. Like last year we will have access to some instructors who are present as part of the day. They are very experienced and even if they do not accompany you out on track they will spend the time talking best lines on the track map in the pit building - definitely worth it for that. NJMP is located in Millville, in Southern NJ, about an hour east of Philadelphia and 2.5 hours south of New York City. It is easily reached off I-95. There are a variety of accommodation options available. NJMP has pit suites (basic motel units on property) or luxury villa accommodation over on the Thunderbolt circuit. Millville has a lot of hotel options - Fairfield Inn, Holiday Inn, Days Inn, Quality Inn, Hampton Inn, Ramada, etc. This is not just a driving event but also a social event. Last year we had quite a few spouses present and enjoying the atmosphere and the evenings. We would love to welcome them back. There are a number of options to explore off-track if watching cars is not exciting during the day. The beach is a short drive from Millville. Cape Elizabeth down the Jersey Shore is well worth a visit. Atlantic City is 45 minutes drive away. There are a number of local wineries in the area offering tastings. Costs are not yet finalized but will be similar to last year based on my current educated guess. No increases in the HPDE based on the current pricing available. Post your interest in attending on this USA7s thread. If you would like to having karting on the Friday holiday please note that too. We will be doing an email follow up for those who do not frequent this forum. Some photos from last year to get you in the mood! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2014%20NJMP%20Sevens%20Event/WSPS--0001_zps94f54366.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2014%20NJMP%20Sevens%20Event/DSC_4186_zpsf326304b.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2014%20NJMP%20Sevens%20Event/DSC_4190_zpsc28e9bb1.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2014%20NJMP%20Sevens%20Event/WSPS--0001-5_zpscbe59dcd.jpg Look forward to seeing you all later this year!

So its 4am on a Saturday, snow is coming down and some blasted ship captain in the Hudson River better be sinking for all the horns he is sounding just offshore from my place. Car shopping time! To clarify 2 PMs I got this week - no these are not my cars for sale. No I don't get a commission. No I am not related or affiliated with them. No I do not offer search services. I am just doing this because I cannot sleep in early mornings and checking out cars is more fun than the alternative of counting sheep, doing my tax return, working, contemplating my navel, etc. In honor of the wonderful work done by John Ch this week when he discovered Mazda (Slngsht) had managed to do an anti-spam update that locked both him and I and quite a few others out of USA7s (dream come true for some I guess!), I want to feature a Westfield. And not just any Westfield but the famous one called Barney! http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/BvgAAOSw1ZBUvbXd/$_14.JPG This fetching shade of purple is on a Westfield in Columbus OH on Fleabay with 2 days to run. Current bid is $16000. The Q&A shows all the hallmarks of buyers with no idea what a seven is! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-black-Westfield-Super-Seven-Caterham-Birkin-/261741368711?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3cf1005587&item=261741368711&pt=US_Cars_Trucks There is an original restored Lotus 7 on DuPont Registry but I cannot show you it as the website keeps crashing. Asking $60k so I am hoping to see something incredibly immaculate if the website ever works. I guess Mazda was working his magic over there too? 1966 Caterham Seven in CA. 1600 Crossflow. 4 speed. Bench seat. Red. Right hand drive. Asking $31500 http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/caterham/super_7/1699342.html 2004/2007 Caterham 7 SV in Hawaii. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/caterham/super_7/1699352.html A Buick Westfield in CO. A Buick Grand National drive train 3.8 V6 without the turbo. Sound intriguing! Asking $42500 http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/lotus/westfield/1702388.html While we are on a Westfield roll today, here is a repeat of the Westfield 11 in CA. Twink power with dry sump. Looks really nice at $27750. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/xi/1658012.html Original Lotus Seven 1962 in OR. Great ad with lots of family connections. Asking $36500. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/lotus/super_seven/1684889.html There is a lot of crap out there today in ad-land. There are so many Zimmers, Phillips, Excaliburs, Corsair, Tiffany, and other rolling POSs that it makes me wonder if there was a mass-extinction in Florida overnight? I had never heard of the term "neoclassic" as a class of auto until today! Anyway, in honor of Xcarguy here is a link for him to go shopping. He needs a Zimmer! http://www.lancemotors.net Popcorn wagon anyone? http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/cretors/unspecified/1673484.html Did not think so! Back to something more fun... Brunton #129 still for sale in San Francisco area at $31500 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4856371042.html The quote in that ad truly says it all - "Truly takes a madman to think of something like this." He is in good company on this forum!!!! And the Hawaii Birkin with Miata drivetrain finally has pictures to go with the text on its Craigslist ad: http://images.craigslist.org/00404_f8pIV1QfHh0_600x450.jpg http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/cto/4831652080.html Asking $19000 He would trade for a pick up or land cruiser? sigh..... Anyone need cheap spares? Merkur XR4ti in Michigan at $1600. 5 speed T9, diff, brakes, etc. http://annarbor.craigslist.org/cto/4859388336.html Lotus 7 chassis - Locost clone at $1200. Neatly painted.... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4852337665.html Locost 7 in SC - yamaha R1 drive train. Asking $9000 which looks to be decent value for whats on offer: http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/4838883035.html V8 rail car/"Katram" There is a seven under there somewhere at $3500 http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/4816538070.html Astrobob deserves a shout out with his ad - essentially brand new Brunton M Spec with LS V8 for $30k (price reduction this week). You cannot build it for anywhere close to this and you will turn most bowels into jelly and scare little old ladies at traffic lights and absolutely annihilate pretty much anything out there driving today. http://tallahassee.craigslist.org/cto/4832227021.html And a third car in Hawaii! This is pretty incredible http://images.craigslist.org/00d0d_jlGNw9KNmLi_600x450.jpg Asking $35500. I suspect shipping for any of these Hawaii sevens would be a killer to making a purchase from the mainland? http://honolulu.craigslist.org/mau/cto/4801165387.html Cheers! -
He tried them - did not like their shade of lipstick and make-up! :jester:

I would be giving Roger Krause a call and chatting the problem through with him. I bet he would have a good solution and could supply it straightaway.

"our year"? Does this mean I may get to meet you in person? :grouphug:

yes - watch this space. Save the date thread in 1-2 days once I have one more phone call

Dave - Thank you for giving me a kick up the butt with a reminder. I have got to allocate time to get it finished but it is daunting faced with 50 hours of video!

It could have been far worse. I typed and later deleted under the V6 Westfield that it was the world's fastest canoe. I actually demonstrated polite forum behavior by not posting it as I know you are a sensitive creature from the Pacific Northwest. I could have lumped you in with Caterham owners and called you a tool? If you are still upset then contact Xcarguy - he has a line on some Russians who give....mmmmm.....firm massages.... -

Rikker - you are spot on with the Midget drive train comment. Thats what I recall. From an interview with Tiff Needell on TV once he made it clear that it was glacial at building up speed and the motto was never lift after that. So I guess they handled well as you threw them into corners on full throttle? I am not sure I like the bulge front and center. I prefer the clean bonnet look with out the power bulge. Then again there it does come with a seriously attractive twink which is worth serious money these days. But then as you said - did they upgrade the rest? Pity it is not closer otherwise I would definitely be turning up to drool over its looks and scam a test drive! I suspect its not just wipers that would cause 'entertainment' during registration. DOT marked windscreen and lights/reflectors is a popular request in many states. -
Yes and also who was the builder?

Mario is on Ebay plugging his Seven grills http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Seven-Grille-Emblems-/171407070511?hash=item27e8a8552f&vxp=mtr Its not a car but hey it is seven related! AstroBob's M Spec Stalker in FL http://tallahassee.craigslist.org/cto/4832227021.html The San Fran Stalker with supercharged V6 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4840439667.html One thing I have noticed when searching sevens the pop up ads for the various cars have a certain theme. For example, Caterhams usually get tool ads (like the owners?). Westfield have caravan ads (no comments or I will get banned!). Ultralite get trailer ads (makes sense there is a manufacturer of that name). But when looking for Stalkers the pop up ads are all for Russian mail order brides. I guess there is a reason for this? :spam: The Honolulu Birkin is still out there http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/cto/4831652080.html The "Katram" racer is back again. This is the fairly heavily modified seven that now reminds me of a circle track car albeit with enough ground clearance to be a dune buggy. Asking $3500. http://images.craigslist.org/00G0G_lI7nFTZ6N5Z_600x450.jpg http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/4816538070.html The blue street legal Locost with yamaha R1 engine is back at $9000. http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/4838883035.html A new Locost project has appeared. A McSorley plan seven. Seems fairly advanced. Zetec with a T5 transmission. Seems to have all the key bits. $5000 http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/4842198683.html Growing up as a kid in Oz I knew the term "berk" as a rather disparaging term for one being an idiot. Indeed it was applied to me frequently. So when I see an ad for a "Berkin" I am instantly understanding the mind of the potential buyer for this next car. This is a sad case - a burned "basket case" shell of a chassis and remnants of panels. I think it is too far gone for restoration at $4700 but someone may be on happier pills than me. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/4849793493.html I am trying to recall whose car this was? There was a person on the forum who lost their yellow Birkin out west with a fuel pipe leak or similar. Anyone jog my memory? There are still a bunch of cars from the end of last weeks ad post out there so no point repeating those. A Lotus Seven Series II SB1766 looking nicely immaculate asking $59,995 on Hemmings. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/super_seven/1707480.html Not much to work with in the next ad but sounds superbly bonkers! Is this more hp than the Seight version put out? http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/lotus/westfield/1702388.html 1962 Lotus Seven with lovely family history. Been on this thread before but I guess it did not sell at $36500 http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/lotus/super_seven/1684889.html 2000 Caterham Zetec in San Francisco. Repeat car to this thread by the same dealer selling. Asking $32,995 http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/caterham/1678738.html A Lotus Seven being offered by Mr Wayne Carini of F40 Motorsports. Been for sale for eons by my (quite possibly faulty) recollection. Should be a good for a mass debate on this forum at its offering price of $49500. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/super_seven/1571604.html Skip (Scannon) of this forum has generously offered his negotiation skills to get the price down if someone gives him money to play with! And the last car is not a seven but it is worthy of having a look at - a Westfield Lotus 11 in CA at $27750. It has the best aero position for a license plate I have seen before. Not sure about the hood bubble to clear the twink engine? Don't recall the originals having those? http://assets.hemmings.com/uimage/33682573-770-0@2X.jpg?rev=1 http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/lotus/xi/1658012.html I would not mind checking this one out in person myself although I am NOT allowed to buy another car.... Thats all I found from a casual look. Any others people have seen from different sources? -
mmmmm......I love an engine porn thread in the mornings!

For Caterham Parts I go to Redline like Twobones. I also use Car Builder Solutions to work out what I am looking for then try to source it locally in the US through McMasterCarr or similar. CBS is here http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/ Moss Motors has also helped me out from time to time http://www.mossmotors.com
