Some offline discussions with a few people overnight. #45 - originally Columbus Ohio Then it was up for sale at $24000: Superformance Owners Association ** FOR SALE SITE ** A video of the same car https://fb.watch/avJiZRSqjR/ It was then sold to an owner in Austin, Texas. That owner put it up for sale at some point. The photos posted above by @wyowill are lifted from the Texas for sale ad (with a later covering up of the license plate). Ad does not give me a date of listing (that I can work out) 2002 Lotus Seven by Superformance for sale: photos, technical specifications, description (topclassiccarsforsale.com)

Calling @scannon Skip - Dan needs corrupting on the pros of a turbo Miata engine!

Agree with you on option 2. Also just woke up and saw you have a boost gauge - I missed that enhancement in my earlier read An idea for the dash. Your problem is that there is a lot of flat black plastic. To give it some definition you could try to add a feature color to break up the black. For the shaped panel and/or the scallop underneath, get an upholsterer to find some matching tan vinyl or leather (to match the seats), edge it for a nice finish and then glue to the dash. The lighter color/different material might make it more interesting. Alternatively you could go for a brighter contrast in a silver vinyl and try the same idea. Test the idea with some colored paper to see if it works.

I will add my penny's worth to this debate. 1) The photos are from an old ad as @mrmustang notes. Sellers frequently do reuse photos but it is a flag that becomes important if there are other flags. 2) The price is just way off - add $10K to get it into a reasonable price area. 3) If you are buying a seven you really need to inspect it in person. These are such unique vehicles that condition matters a lot and impacts the valuation greatly. 4) If you have any doubts about settling a transaction then insist on using an independent escrow service like escrow.com. That way someone independent is verifying if conditions of sale are met before releasing title or releasing funds. His proposed escrow service may just be a friend helping him. Your approach on wanting to see the car in person is the right one. If serious there will be a car to inspect. If not then the correspondence will peter out.

Mine moves within 12V to 13V range. Never known it to go above that other than the time the alternator was on its way out. How/where did you hook in the separate 12V battery?
-
How does your wiring compare to the wiring diagram put out by the factory? Pages 216 and 217 have the Duratec harness for a 420.
-
Check your earth. Thats the usual cause of a maxed out gauge.
-
That is fairly bent - nicely caught before failure. The end outcome - the noise was the joints binding from the bent A frame.
-
A cheaper variation of that idea would be to do the dash insets in leather that matches the seat upholstery. They are square shaped so easy to cut, edge with piping and then glue on.

A few S4 related things located here for download, in case you have not found them already Lotus Seven - USA7s

Welcome Phil! Looks like you have plenty to keep you out of mischief. I have always thought the S4 works best in darker colors. Your observation about the overly loud 1970s vintage colors is spot on - I am sure that contributed to the lack of affection at the time. The BRG with maybe a yellow nose band? You could have variations of that - maybe 1960s BRM F1 cars which had the very dark metallic green with a dark orange nose band. Or maybe the same era Reg Parnell team colors of dark blue-ish green with a dark maroon noseband? One thing I have seen on some NZ Steel Brothers versions of the S4 which I think works well is to paint the inset areas of the dash a matte black with the non-inset pieces of the dash then being body color. The dials then look good mounted on that.

Thats a pretty accurate stick. Definitely Caterham SV. All the details match up. Definitely zetec or SVT zetec as the exhaust is the super long one with the integrated cat converter. Crossflows did not have that as they did not have to meet emissions. The side wing repeater blinkers were always included in the US kits but they were a UK SVA requirement so most did not make it on a US build car as it is just one more thing to go wrong. The wagon wheels were 2003-2005 area, maybe as late as 2006? The rubber looks like sumitomos which were common replacements for Avon CR500s once the original set wore out. Thats a very worthy project and worth a fair bit even in this state. Recommissioning something like this is lengthy - all engine and transmission fluids, suspension bushings, maybe the shocks, all new rubber, refurb brakes, replace all the hoses around the engine bay, test all the electrics and thats before you start the cosmetic stuff. Buts its all straightforward, just lots of little jobs. Congratulations on this find!

I think this is it? Aluminium bellhousing: SOHC Ford Pinto & X/Flow hydraulic to Rocket & 5 Speed Sierra gearbox (burtonpower.com) I can see your issue with space packaging by just looking at the integrated starter design in that bellhousing. Will you be having to cut into the passenger side footwell? -
Steve - thats not a true Caterham? No bits were missing from the kit.....
-
Don't think you will get lucky on this one since there are so few of these engines in Caterham in the USA. You will likely have to try SBD Motorsports in the UK who should have all the kit needed for this project.
-
Thats sad for the original owner but great news for you. Happy New Year! Congratulations on a great find!
-
That handbrake mount really sucks. I would hate to lay into a new powder coated chassis to cut it out and re-weld it in the right direction or bodge weld a new piece to it to make it work. The rest is disappointing but can be overcome.
-
OK so what is the catch? Looks surprisingly clean and presentable. Apart from air con it has been tracked as it is set up that way. Its a desert car - lots of sun fading evident on headlights/paint. No obvious damage. Damage assessment had to be more than 20% of car value to be written off so figure on at least $10K's worth of damage (unless the insurance assessor got it wrong - fairly frequent). Was it a flood car? Very nice find!
-
This is one way to keep busy in winter! How much of the Miata is used in the Westfield kit? I guess drivetrain, brakes, parts or all of the wiring harness? What else?
-
I will point out that Jim does have the largest Facebook page on se7ens globally. He gets the views on a different social media platform.
