  1. Thanks for the info guys. I was half-heartedly placing a condition of whoever wanted us close had to provide a 50A power outlet....text/email just can't show when your tongue is in your cheek! On a slightly more serious note a 50A outlet would be a nice touch but we are fully self-sufficient even if dry camping. We would just like to be relatively close to the group, although I am sure Stormy would place proximity to the pool.to be a higher priority! Slow progress being made daily on the rv, got the heat pump installed and operational yesterday. Almost ready to start building cabinets. The exterior needs 4 aluminum corners made, finish and install the baggage compartment doors, and finish the installation of the windows and entry door to be weatherproof/roadworthy. For the record this has been an almost 2 yr project having started with a '92 GMC Topkick cab/chassis we drove home from AZ 4 yrs ago. We swapped out the gas V8 for a Cummins diesel, changed the rear axle to an air ride unit (with a diesel suited ratio), stretched the frame 12', dropped the 50 gal step tank in favour of a 125 gal aluminum unit from a Freightliner....and THEN started building the motorhome box. Nice to see it finally getting close to finished. If I could figure how to do it from a smart phone or ipad I'd post pics.
  2. Thanks Steve. Primo would be with a 50A plug close by. Otherwise we have 12.5 KW Onan Quiet Diesel that will do what we need. As long as we are reasonably close to the group we're happy.
  3. xcarguy and others While I do appreciate the sympathies offered I didn't post with that in mind, was more an explanation of why we are what we are: a family that has done what we can to guide our other kids in spite of the past, hopefully helping them make educated choices in life. We try to have a good time, make the best of whatever comes, and offer what we can to others along the way. When we were doing the kart road racing ours was the pit with the 5 gal lemonaide jug out along the aisle for anyone going by, where the lunch pot of pasta or chile might serve 20 or more, the coffee was always fresh. My absolute favourite occasion was at Roebling Rd on a Canadian Thanksgiving weekend (6 weeks before the US). Knowing we still wanted to observe the occasion we cooked and sliced a big bird at home plus stuffing, gravy, etc. I think we ended up serving 35+ in the pits Saturday evening, a complete dinner right down to pumpkin pie and real whipped cream! Was a hoot... People couldn't believe what we put together out of our 20' motorhome 1000 miles from home. Isn't that what life is all about: good friends, good fellowship=good times and great memories. It's our hope to continue in the same manner, making friends and sharing good times with them and our family, seeing new places whenever we can. BTW...I am not easily offended, can take good natured jesting with the best of them. Both Rosemarie and I can give as good as we get. And our encampment will be open to all with a sense of humour, our awning offering shade when needed. All I have to do is finish building it!
  4. Not a problem here Tom, no offence taken. Similarly, was not my intention to offend anyone else with MY comments. We all have our own cross to bear, choices to make. And other than shaking my head at a few people getting offended or heavy handed in some posts my time on this site has been enlightening and enjoyable. As has been mentioned by others this site is a wealth of information, well worth my time.
  5. Sorry guys...having lost a 16 yr old daughter (20 yrs ago but the wounds never go away) to dui I have a hard time contributing to your own potential demise. Not that we are abolishionists or prohibitionists, we just choose not to contribute. As for our daughter Stormy being a ringer you can relax as she is a rookie just starting in karting. Now...if my boys showed up that might be another matter! Rosemarie, Stormy and I are looking forward to this event.
  6. Hate fat fingers and small "not-so-smart" phones.... ....we are enjoying spending more time doing OUR thing. Not to say we did not take great joy helping them succeed, it was a blast. Now we have the youngest...she'll be 16 in April...following in their footsteps so will likely have her in tow, be tough to keep her away from the kart event! Assuming things work as planned we will have our motorhome.project completed and will camp at the track. It being a major home built project it should fit right in with the 7s crowd...a "project" on a much larger scale? Will keep an eye on further details here...
  7. As a lurker here who has tinkered with 7s owned by others (have a very early Caterham project waiting in the wings) for years my better half and I are hoping to make this gathering as spectators. Would be great to put faces to some of the great people on this list that I have traded info with, picked up parts from, for years. NJMP is on our bucket list, having been to most of the other great tracks in the eastern half of the US and Canada when our 2 sons were racing shifter karts in the wka National Road Race Series. Older now, and out of our pockets...both are instructors at Calabogie Motorsports Park (amongst other race car oriented occupations)
  8. Alaskossie... Article was from '09. Wonder what the latest would be...still running? Further developments? Latest project? Sure glad he doesn't live close to me: I get enough grandiose ideas without help from someone of his ilk! He sure does nice work though...
  9. Having spent "some" time and money as an owner of an Oswego Super you might want to look closely before thinking about a road course track day... A lot of their corner speed comes from a heavy left side weight bias. You COULD equalise the tire size left/right (far from the case as a racing Super) but check the pictures carefully: the motor is offset to the left, as well as the chassis/suspension. Just sayin...
  10. Anyone recall what the special Ford part number was? Might be nice to know... We ran into a similar situation when my sons were racing shifter karts. The preferred engine was either a CR 80 or CR 125 Honda, depending on class. Honda would not sell either motocross motor separate from buying the whole bike. Then some wizard at the distribution level came up with a part number that would give you every part, right down to the nuts, bolts, and washers, even the appropriate electronic ignition box, for a complete engine package that could be ordered from almost any Honda dealer. You should have seen the look on our local guy's face when we ordered 3 of each...he could not find any info on the part number other than the price, and we didn't tell him anything other than order them please. Was quite the kerfulful when 6 large boxes came in! 15 years later I still snicker looking back. When the dust settled we became preferred customers, got a healthy discount with the volume of parts we were buying regularly. And now back to our regularly sheduled programming...
  11. I am sure I am not the only one who will miss your educated opinions and thoughtful observations, not to mention your dedication to fun events! I sincerely hope our paths can cross again somewhere. Maybe I can get my own personal sh*t in a pile and participate in one of your tours, even though they are on the wrong side of the country! Stay well my cyber friend!
  12. Don't they all at some point?
  13. Terry... PM sent.
  14. Thanks Andy. I believe there are 8-10 Sevens/Caterhams in the group, similar number of Europas, Elans, plus a few each of Esprit, Elise, as well as a smattering of other Lotus models. Yup, quite a diverse and fun group! Although I have not spent time there in quite a while, I do have "some" knowledge of your area...my father was born, raised in Limehouse, had relatives in Acton, Guelph, and Rockwood. Sadly most have passed away now so I don't get there as often as I used to but am overdue for a nostalgic visit. Maybe this summer... Meanwhile, if you seen occasion to be heading east on hwy 401 past exit 750 let me know. We are a mile off the highway and always look forward to trading lies with other sufferers of the dreaded Lotus/Caterham disease!
  15. Welcome Andy. Great bunch here full of all kinds of advice, even if you don't want it... Seriously, a wonderful suppprt group. What part of Ontario do you call home? There is Lotus owners group in Ottawa that meets monthly if you are nearby.
  16. Something seriously wrong when it's warmer in Alaska than Atlanta or Orlando... And they have the nerve to talk about global warming??? Be hard to convince a bunch of folks today...
  17. Only in Canada eh.... To paraphrase the old Red Rose tea ads... Pity! Happy New Year from a resident of the Great White North!
  18. Assuming it has been in its present AZ location for a few weeks then I would think Bill to be correct: the heat and lack of humidity would have a strong drying effect. I bought a '93 GMC Topkick truck in Lake Havasu AZ that had spent most (if not all) of its life in AZ. Absolutely ZERO sign of rust, even the brake line running to the rear axle from the front was still shiny. The original paint on the inside of the doors looked like it was painted last week. The brand new trucks at the Chev dealership next door to me show more rust than this truck. So from that experience I would not be too concerned about rust being an issue. Now...corrosion of electrical components, odors from foam rubber or upholstery with moisture trapped inside or behind, different issues entirely!
  19. It certainly is not exactly MY idea of a great deal at the present 15k +.... Time will tell where the price of this pig-in-a-poke ends up.
  20. Well, for the record, I will NOT be shilling for anyone, nor will I be bidding at all. If I had not collected all the bits to upgrade (no flame wars as to the validity of that statement) our early Caterham basketcase to a Zetec then I would be in there like a dirty shirt! Plus, it is a nice time of the year for a trip to somewhere away from the ice, snow, and cold temps of eastern Ontario. Maybe in my next life?
  21. I'm snickering at the irony Skip... Have you done us a favour posting this or created a monster with a bunch bidding against each other?
  22. Curious... Where was the flooding near Kingman AZ?
  23. What engine/trans did the designer/engineer have in mind?
  24. I am sure there is a good reason to polute yet another useful forum/group with political crap. Get a life guys...take this bs where it belongs. Paul
  25. scannon If they called what you pictured a "cowcatcher" I hate to think how much bigger Tabers "bearcatcher" will need to be... Sure hope they make it carbon to keep the weight down!
