  1. Maybe we should rename this thread, we seem to have expanded the topic.... "Thing learned the hard way"? "Boy was I lucky..." On a slightly more perverse note, why is human nature such that we an get such a chuckle at someone's misfortune? Or is it that we recognize the similarity to some of our own experiences? I know that I could write a bathroom anthem with things that have gone wrong in my life, and I have always considered myself safety conscious. There is some truth to "if I thought I was going to live this long I might have made some different choices, looked after myself better"....
  2. Seems so wemtd. I thinks some even went so far as a lobotomy!
  3. Sadly have not had the pleasure of meeting many of the animals here, 2 occasions where attendance at a get-together went sour. One of these days? So I just lurk in the shadows here, ambush where appropriate. Your post was too easy an opportunity for even my 62 yr old feeble mind!
  4. Steve Don't ya just hate auto-correct? Imagine.... turning black hoe into backhoe! Was that in the same strip club as Shane's encounter?
  5. Red Duck I dont have a picture, couldn't conjure one up through Google either, but back in "the good old days"...think early Can Am series circa mid to late '60s...I recall watching a few cars being transported in box trucks, Penske/Uhaul types, with hydraulic lift gates. They hooked aluminum ramps on the liftgate, rolled the car onto the ramps with the heavy end over/on the liftgate, and raised/lowered the car. I think the ramps had a hook over the truck side of the liftgate, cantilevered to the rear. Hey...if it was good enough for the "pros" then, it should work still now. Just need to rent a 5 ton truck with a liftgate, find a pair of 10' aluminum ramps to modify and you're good to go. Only out the price of the ramps and a few weekend rentals when you need the truck.
  6. Good grief...did you slice the other 3 right off???:-D
  7. At this point you have exhausted my information. Switches and the like are anyone's guess. Keep us posted, you never know what obscure piece of info is lurking in the back of some lister's mind, just*waiting for the right question to trigger a memory.
  8. At the risk of repeating myself the best written material (far better than any manual) is Tony Weale's book. Parts such as seats, windshield, top, doors and fibreglass parts are going to be a challenge. I almost bought an S4 basketcase 10 yrs ago, walked away when no parts were available. Good luck...
  9. A couple of phrases come to mind.... "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" "One man's junk is another man's treasure" There is a reason there are so many car companies, each with so many models. We don't all drive Chevs... Maybe everyone doesn't find your wife attractive, nor you the chick magnet you may think you are? I believe this forum is for ALL forms of the generic 7 style.....
  10. Hoping you got my pm of last evening....
  11. Another indicator of my 62 yr old failing memory.... Thanks for setting me straight Croc. The Tony Weale book is the one I was referencing, very detailed on most models up to and including the first 15 yrs or so of Caterham. But I am sure most of the Lotus/Caterham faithful here are well aware. Info posted for the benefit of newbies and the uneducated Storker owners... ;-)
  12. Get Tony Ortenburger (?) s book. It has info on all models, decent chapters on the S4, plus maintenance tips and what to look for when buying any model. Been considered the "bible" from 1st printing, well worth whatever price you have to pay.
  13. Oh my, don't tell me.. You have played with nail guns too???
  14. So your martinis are likely shaken as opposed to stirred with a drill?
  15. Croc and all... That was the mindset behind my buddy trailering his S2 to a proper expert in Toronto. Not a cheap solution but the car is now as perfect as ever courtesy of the guilty party's insurance company.
  16. I think it's a holdover from the gene pool that created the forerunner of these cars, the mindeset that lingers still... Lotus....lots of trouble, usually serious. So we are all destined to search for answers to problems of our own making? Get a trailer? Na...too easy!
  17. Or skip the middleman and go right to Arch Motors. A good friend of mine had a shop in Toronto repair his '62 Lotus S2 after an suv backed over the front corner, looked good as new. They completely reskinned the car. Will get their info if anyone needs it.
  18. Bingo Dave W! That was my next suggestion but you were quicker responding. Great minds think alike? ;-)
  19. We use a similar unit for driver observation of the skier on our ski boat, allows a 2nd set of eyes (besides the required observer) to keep the skier safe.
  20. Would you consider grinding 1 flat of the bolt head just enough for insertion clearance? Probably wouldn't take a lot.....
  21. Nylon slings and the fork lift at your local lumber yard?
  22. Been around a few times now Mondo but still worth another look. It astounds me every day the number of distracted idiots I encounter that call themselves drivers. Almost as bad is the number of people walking and texting, totally oblivious to their surroundings. Have seen some step off the curb and be absolutely shocked at someone blowing the horn to warn them. Not sure how thrilled I am anymore with the electronic age.....
  23. So at this point there are no cars available for viewing? You mentioned San Diego in an earlier post...is that your base? When do you expect to have your demo up and running?
  24. oops..."they"
  25. Who would the "the" be Andy? I'm sure others here would be interested in knowing who you considered trustworthy to perform such surgery. I seem to recall someone asking for a recommendation in the Toronto area....
