Get well to Stewart (Sabbot)

Recommended Posts

Many of you know Stewart (Sabbot on this forum) from his participation in the annual sevens track event in Millville NJ in his electric blue Caterham S3 with BD engine. Last weekend he was involved in an parasailing accident on the West Coast. Unfortunately he did not stick the landing (I do relate to this!) and so he is laid up in hospital with some serious back injuries which will take some considerable time and effort to recover from. I have talked with his wife, Colleen who, like all loving wives when cleaning up after their husband's inevitable "oops" moments, has taken charge of things and is working her way through what happens next.

Given the situation, Stewart is not on phone or email so you cannot communicate directly with him but I told Colleen I would post on USA7s and provide her a link to this thread so she can read our posts to him.

Its probably fortunate that he is on the West Coast as my first reaction would be to grab a quality bottle of scotch, a few glasses and hit the hospital to cheer him up. Get well matey!

Stewart, when we talk about Low Flying, we mean in our cars, not in a toy kite. :smash::smash: Here's wishing you a speedy recovery. Hopefully Colleen doesn't kill you once you recover. Collen did a very good job out on the track herself last year when I rode along with her, so I know she is capable of handling you.

Listen to your doctors and get well quickly. Tom

Get well Stewart

Even though she worked wonders on xcarguy and his speedy recovery; beware if Crock offers to send his personal nurse Hilda to help your recovery.

Stewart,

Hope you get well soon. Was paddocked next to you at NJMP last year and remember you were moving out to California. Get better soon so you can get that BD powered monster back on track. Colleen will help get you straightened out (no pun intended). She can always take the 7 out for some exercise!!

Hope to see you back at the track,

Jim

Dear all

This is Colleen, posting on Stewart's login. Just to say thank you for all the good wishes and support. He is now settled into an Acute Rehab Unit in Encinitas where he will undergo some pretty intensive rehab. I am flying back to NJ tonight with the kids to get them back to school. We may not make the track day in July but we will be there in spirit. I'm not sure I'll be up for singlehandedly loading up the 7 and trailering it to South Jersey by then :-)

I'll let you know how things progress, and thank you once again for the messages.

Colleen,

It was just a little over a year ago that my wife was posting here for me because of a severe back injury I sustained at a track event. All the travel she had to do, taking care of the kids, school, home, bills, etc.; to say that it was (is, for you) all overwhelming is an understatement. Hang in there (both of you) and know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers here in Arkansas.

Here is my wife's first post for me in March of 2015, following the accident (post #18): http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?10354-XCarGuy/page2

Dear all,

Me again!

Just to say thank you for for all the good wishes and support. Thank you Shane for the encouraging post and helping reassure me that recovery, while a long process, will happen.

My latest news is I'm flying back to Ca on Monday with a view to training in transfers and care of Stewart so I can accompany him on his transfer to a hospital here in NJ. We are thrilled that he will be closer to home and hope that being minutes rather than a transcontinental flight away will be good for his morale.

I'll be in touch as things progress.

Thanks all

Colleen

Well wishes to Stuart, Colleen and your wonderful children. As I am sure you know, this thread could be a lot worse. Hopefully after he reboots, life will return to semi-normal. I am sure that having him home will be a hugely positive move, for everyone. Keep the news coming.

I do not check the site as much as I once did and just learned of your accident. We ran at NJMP together a number of years ago. I too want to voice my support and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Having put my wife through the ringer more than once as a result of an "exuberant lifestyle" I empathize with both of you. Stay strong together and remember you will have more interesting stories to tell your grandkids.

Get well soon and listen to your physiotherapist.

Hi all,

I just wanted to say huge thank you to all of you who have offered your kind words, thoughts, prayers and support. Colleen and I flew back from San Diego to Newark last Friday and I am now continuing my rehabilitation in the Kessler Institute rehab center in West Orange NJ, this center is about a 30 minute drive from our home and a lot easier for Colleen and our kids to visit. The staff in the rehab center in San Diego were terrific in initiating my recovery and training Colleen to help safely transport me back to NJ. United Airlines staff were incredibly accommodating which was a great help in my transit. I've included picture en route. The "passenger" in the window seat (which was thankfully blocked off by United) was a gift from colleagues in San Diego and came complete with some whiskey which I will unfortunately have to postpone tasting until I'm free of the majority of the current pain killers.

My ultimate prognosis is still very much up in the air but as they say in the rehab centers they are "preparing me for the worst and hoping for the best", given that I have a little movement in my left leg I'm currently hoping for the best but will certainly prepare for the worst - only time will tell.

Seven ownership, brings with it an incredibly supportive group of fellow enthusiasts and I am lucky enough to have been introduced them it by Mike (Croc) a few years ago; I doubt I'll be driving but there is just a chance that colleen and I will be able to visit the annual gathering at NJMP in July and it would be great to see many of you again in person.

Once again huge thanks and very best wishes,

Stewart

Stewart,

Glad to see a smile...too bad about the whisky. :jester: In the days to come, if you want to chat and garnish some support from someone who was feeling your pain this time last year, please reach out. My family and I wish you the very best during the days to come.

I guess my plan to sneak some nice British ale into the Kessler is a bit of a waste until you get off those painkillers. Once the dust has settled from relocating and the initial rush of visitors is over I plan to stop by and say hello.

Stewart, It's great to see your smiling face. :seeya: We will reserve a special spot for you under the tent for your appearance at NJMP. Just don't take Kitcat up on any offers for a ride. Seriously, I am glad to hear that you are closer to home and the support of your family. Our Thoughts and prayers are with you. Tom

Stewart: Any progress? I know it will be slow, just curious. Any chance of you coming to spectate at NJMP? We'd love to have you and it might be good therapy. And, bring the family again, I think they had fun last year.
